Chapter 343: A Grand Canyon(2)
*Rumble* *rumble*
The ground quivered beneath their feet, sending shivers down their spines. As their eyes widened in astonishment, a colossal magic circle materialized before them, its intricate patterns gleaming with an otherworldly radiance. Simultaneously, the air filled with the cacophony of falling rocks and thunderous explosions, resonating through the surroundings.
The sudden phenomenon startled even the birds, causing them to scatter in a flurry of wings. Even the serpents slithered through the air, their sinuous forms suspended in an ethereal dance. Before they could react, the ground surged upward, throwing them off balance and sending them tumbling through the air.
Felix and his comrades wore expressions of sheer bewilderment. Their eyes darted between Desmond and the girls, who seemed remarkably composed amidst the chaos. The feeling of humiliation gripped them tightly; they had been outmatched in bravery by a mere girl! How embarrassing it was!
Only when they witnessed their master standing tall, his gaze fixed upon the distant horizon, did a flicker of pride ignite within them.
"Y-Young master, th-this," Felix stammered, his voice trembling momentarily. After regaining his composure, he beheld the terrifying transformation that had swept over this desolate land, as well as the immense power emanating from his young master.
A colossal chasm had split the ground, cleaving it in two with a resounding force. From the divided halves, something colossal emerged, digging and carving a channel that birthed a meandering river, connecting the fragmented terrain. Sprouting from the earth, small hills rose, surrounding the water's flow and transforming the downstream current into a vast lake.
With each splash, young trees burst forth, their verdant foliage soon blanketing the entire landscape.
As the earthquake subsided, a resplendent rainbow arched majestically across the sky, extending from the lake to the heavens. These extraordinary occurrences beckoned back the fleeing animals, their melodious chirping punctuating the air.
Alice, Annie, and Laura stood in awe, their voices stolen by the wondrous spectacle unfolding before their eyes. It seemed as though a realm of disbelief had encased them. Even Alice, her eyes widening, couldn't help but offer a serene smile at the magnificent panorama that Desmond had conjured with his own hands.
"You are amazing, brother," Alice murmured, her words barely escaping her lips. The enchanting grandeur of this handcrafted realm captivated her completely, her gaze transfixed upon its splendor.
"Y-Young master, you're... AMAZING!" Conversely, Laura erupted with unbridled excitement. She fixed her gaze upon Desmond and the land he had crafted, her eyes ablaze with fervor. Her pupils dilated, revealing an unmistakable expression of adoration, while a flush of crimson painted her cheeks.
Her heartbeat echoed loudly within her chest, and she instinctively shielded her ample bosom from prying eyes.
Annie, equally enchanted by the mesmerizing view, scowled at the sudden outburst from Laura, casting her a disapproving gaze before pinching her waist.
"Ouch!"
Felix and his companions, meanwhile, gazed upon Desmond with an entirely different perspective. The reverence they once held had transcended into an incomprehensible realm. In their eyes, Desmond now possessed the power to accomplish the impossible, to conjure miracles akin to that of a deity!
Were the church to know of their thoughts, they would undoubtedly deliver a stern lecture, as comparing anyone to a god was strictly taboo. Gods were untouchable, eternal, and exuded an air of majestic omnipotence, unlike mere mortals or flawed beings.
...
As his people showered him with praise, their eyes transfixed on the newly formed grand canyon, Desmond leaned wearily against a chair sculpted from the very earth. His lips had lost their color, drained by the immense expenditure of energy.
Casting spells typically had little impact on his physique, but now, after modifying and summoning something of such magnitude, exhaustion washed over him like a relentless tide.

Desmond checked his status, and the system's auto-gathering function began replenishing his depleted energy. He could feel the revitalizing flow as his energy reserves slowly refilled.
"This is truly energy-consuming to completely alter the terrain in such a wide area," he muttered, contemplating the immense effort it took. Initially, Desmond had struggled to believe that he was capable of such a miraculous feat. However, witnessing the determination of his loyal subordinates and the hopeful anticipation in his sister's eyes, he felt compelled to attempt the impossible.
As he awaited his energy to return to its peak, Desmond silently surveyed the breathtaking scenery he had created. Though he acknowledged its beauty, he also recognized that this natural wonder might remain hidden and undiscovered if he didn't halt the process midway. Even Desmond, with his monstrous energy reserves, could exhaust himself after fashioning such a spectacle.
After all, how could a mere Grandmaster's energy capacity compare to his own?
"Young master, I have an urgent report," Felix suddenly approached him. They stood atop the pinnacle of the natural wonder, a hovering platform that Desmond skillfully maintained. Had he expended all his energy, they would have plummeted to the ground.
"Sure," Desmond nonchalantly waved his hand, observing Felix's troubled expression. He assumed the issue pertained to why he had created this natural wonder in the beasts' territory.
"Before you arrived, young master, we encountered a horde of beasts led by a Sky Hunter," Felix began, his voice tinged with remnants of fear. "At that moment, I was gripped by sheer terror. My subordinates and I were prepared to sacrifice our lives to ensure your survival in the future."
Desmond's shock reverberated through the hovering ground, causing the people around them to instinctively crouch and hold onto something for stability.
"Go on," Desmond urged, caught off guard by Felix's revelation. He hadn't anticipated a Sky Hunter among the beast horde. Yet, upon further consideration, the presence of a Sky Hunter in the outer territory seemed unlikely.
Seeing the expression on his young master's face, Felix grasped his thoughts. "Under normal circumstances, a Sky Hunter only appears in the Inner Beast Territory. But on that day, I witnessed a peculiar creature riding atop the Sky Hunter. Its commanding presence made me believe that this strange beast was the true leader of the horde, rather than the Sky Hunter itself."
This time, it was Felix's turn to pause, his breaths heavy and labored. There was one remaining detail that sent shivers down his spine whenever he attempted to recollect it.
"A Dragon Beast! To be precise, a towering Dragon Beast!" Felix exclaimed in a panic, the fear evident in his voice. The onlookers, who had been captivated by the natural wonder, turned their gaze toward him.
Desmond's brow furrowed, his face contorting into an unpleasant expression upon hearing Felix's account. In his view, as a 4th-class swordsman, Felix shouldn't have succumbed to cowardice regardless of the circumstances. However, as he surveyed the other men huddled together in a corner, forming a small circle, he couldn't deny the reality.
They were crouched on the ground, displaying the demeanor of true cowards, an image that felt like a slap to his face, contradicting his earlier declaration that he didn't need cowards.
