Chapter 337: A Bountiful Harvest
Upon witnessing the gruesome scene, Laura drew in a sharp, icy breath as her eyes widened in horror. The sight before her was bathed in crimson, a stark contrast against the backdrop of the once serene landscape.
"Laura, my daggers!" Annie's urgent voice pierced the chaos, propelling her into action. With a grace that seemed almost otherworldly, she lunged towards another fearsome beast. Her lithe figure seemed to blur as she swiftly maneuvered between their towering bodies, her slender legs revealing glimpses of reversed daggers.
A flicker of light danced upon the blades as Laura chanted, her words invoking the power of the arcane. "Basic Spell: Fire Topping!" she incanted, causing the daggers to erupt into a fiery glow.
Amidst the immense forms of the beasts, a small but intense red light gleamed, captivating their attention. Claws clashed and fangs clashed in their frenzy to reach the radiant spectacle. With agility that bordered on the supernatural, Annie effortlessly evaded the onslaught of their savage attacks.
Her body twisted and weaved, deftly slipping between their colossal frames, her grip on the daggers causing the pulsing veins in her hands to become starkly visible. In a swift and precise motion, she aimed her deadly blades at the exposed neck of her chosen adversary, striking with lethal accuracy.
As her daggers penetrated the creature's flesh, the fiery sheen that had enveloped them dissipated, melting into the beast's body. An agonized howl erupted from the wounded creature, its demise sealed by the vengeful bite of its enraged comrade. The once mighty beast crumpled to the earth, defeated.
Meanwhile, having dispatched one adversary, Annie swiftly retreated, deftly leaping and evading the colossal feet of the remaining creatures. She brushed aside the thick, towering meadows that obstructed her vision, determined to maintain her advantage.
Yet, a sudden sense of impending danger gripped her as she felt a colossal force surging through the meadows, heralding an enormous object hurtling toward her.
A glimmer of faint light managed to penetrate the dense foliage, revealing the ominous silhouette that loomed before her. It was too late to react as her widened eyes beheld the swift motion of a beast's tail, catching her off guard. Instinctively, she shielded herself by crossing her hands over her chest, bracing for the impact.
However, instead of the anticipated pain and the jarring force of being flung through the air, a resounding crack reverberated through the air.
"Basic Spell: Barrier!" Laura's voice rang out from a distance, punctuated by the sound of her labored breathing. Beads of perspiration glistened on her forehead as she strained to protect Annie when she was most vulnerable.
Though her view was obscured by the towering meadows, Laura's gaze honed in on Annie's position, guided by the red luminescence emanating from her daggers. Simultaneously, Annie, still recovering from the shock, noticed a hovering magical circle and fragments of shimmering blue on the ground. Gratitude surged within her as she realized that Laura had come to her aid.
Just as Annie attempted to make her escape, the very earth beneath her seemed to rebel against her movements, intertwining and ensnaring her body, rendering her immobile. A familiar voice reached her ears, calming her tense muscles and urging her to yield. Darkness descended swiftly, shrouding her vision.
Once again, danger loomed, but the encasing earth shielded her from harm, absorbing the brunt of the impending attack. She could feel the ground beneath her shifting and undulating, subtly guiding her away from harm.
"Excellent work, but we must hasten," Desmond's voice reverberated through the air as the mass of earth that had enveloped Annie transformed into a radiant orb of white light. Her young master's commanding presence led the way.
"Thank you, young master," Annie and Laura exchanged a grateful bow to Desmond, who stood amidst a swirling array of colossal fireballs.
Their gazes involuntarily shifted towards their young lady, frozen in a delicate crystalline prison, a smile adorning her face.
...
Meanwhile, Desmond observed the ongoing clash between the frenzied beasts, a calm demeanor etched across his features. "In the end, no matter their size or strength, these creatures are still bound by their animalistic instincts," he commented casually. The fireballs behind him took flight, one after another, scorching the meadows and engulfing the beasts in a fiery inferno.
A deafening roar erupted from the wounded beasts as their bodies were seared by the flames. Undeterred, they retaliated, charging relentlessly towards Desmond, their charred forms still ablaze.
*Howl!* The Husk King unleashed a primal roar, propelling itself skyward while contorting its lower half upwards.
*Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!* The mesmerizing blue thorns adorning its back were released in a rapid succession, hurtling towards Desmond and his group across the expansive terrain. The charging beasts were not spared, succumbing to the thorns' impact, their bodies turning a venomous shade of blue as if poisoned.
"Custom Spell: Barrier!" Desmond's voice rang out with unwavering authority, and in an instant, he cast two spells. The gathered energy coalesced, forming a faint but immediate barrier that shielded his group from the imminent danger.
Simultaneously, the energy coursing through Desmond surged forth, merging with the ambient power surrounding them. From the very ground beneath their feet, colossal spikes of earth erupted, surpassing the size of those he had employed during his time at the academy battles. The spikes impaled the airborne beasts, leaving them suspended, lifeless in the air.
*Howl!* *Howl!* One by one, the ferocious creatures met their demise, leaving only a fortunate few who faced their final moments at the hands of Desmond's next incantation.
"Control Element: Flamethrower!" His customized spell differed from the norm as a magnificent magic circle materialized, hovering before Desmond and his companions. A relentless deluge of scorching flames spewed forth, engulfing the remaining beasts and the surrounding meadows. The once vibrant landscape was reduced to smoldering ashes, leaving behind a desolate, charred expanse.
The wounded Husk King stood defiantly, its eyes locked in a vengeful glare directed at Desmond.
"ROAR!" In a final desperate attempt, the Husk King leaped into mid-air, its maw agape, and razor-sharp claws slashing menacingly.
*Bang!* An abrupt earth spike erupted from the ground, effortlessly piercing the creature's hovering body.
*Splash!* A voluminous cascade of green blood cascaded down, staining Desmond's barrier. He waited patiently until the viscous liquid trickled down to the ground before deactivating his protective spell.

Numerous notifications flooded his vision, signaling the absorption of the potent energy. He glanced towards the corner and noticed that the blue dots on his map remained stationary.
"Stay here," Desmond instructed, his attention now focused on Laura and Annie. The two stood in awe as their young master deftly maneuvered between the lifeless bodies of the fallen beasts, slashing away flesh and storing it in his pocket, causing a pungent odor to waft through the air.
...
After several minutes, Desmond had collected all the necessary parts from the beasts. Though he conserved his energy, he felt no desire to expend it on such a tedious task.
"Furthermore," Desmond realized that his upper clothing had been lost during their escape, though he couldn't recall precisely when. Without dwelling on the matter, he secured Alice onto his back and fastened the icy block to his body using a sturdy tree root.
They resumed their journey towards Felix and his subordinates' location, yet this time, they advanced with the aid of Desmond's magic, riding atop a wave of earth while repelling any remaining beasts that dared to challenge them.
The auto-gathering function provided by the system proved invaluable in moments like these, allowing his energy to continuously deplete and recharge simultaneously.
"Absorb," Desmond commanded, his voice carrying an air of authority.
