The Most Satisfied Reincarnate

Chapter 154: Haha! I Love This Map!

"Here is your cake, young master," Laura said as she approached with a tray filled with cakes that she had wholeheartedly prepared. She felt a sense of accomplishment seeing the surprised expression on her young master's face, knowing that her efforts in learning to bake cakes from the maids at home had paid off.

"Ah, yes," Desmond replied, his view no longer obstructed by Laura's presence. He took one of the cakes and savored it slowly, while silently commanding the system in his mind.

"System, for the spell list, display only the number of each type of spell I have learned."

"This is delicious," Desmond unintentionally praised Laura's cake with his mouth full.

"Really, young master?" Laura drew closer, causing Desmond to notice the indentation of her breasts and cleavage.

"Yes," Desmond replied, shifting back slightly and taking a step away.

Laura beamed with happiness upon hearing his response. "Would you like to try another dessert, young master?"

As she moved closer to Desmond, she finally realized his irritated gaze. "I apologize, young master," she said, returning to her original position. It was only then that she realized her inappropriate behavior.

Desmond sighed at his maid's actions and refocused his attention on the transparent screen in front of him.

"That's quite a lot," Desmond mused to himself, realizing he had enough spells to survive in the wilderness.

As Desmond contemplated the challenges that lay ahead, a transparent screen appeared before him once again.

In an instant, all the transparent screens vanished, replaced by a transparent map showing an island with blue dots moving along its surface.

"Well..." Desmond glanced at Laura, noticing her somber expression. "Bring me a map of the kingdom."

"Pardon me?" Laura's confusion was evident as she tried to comprehend his request.

"Ah," Desmond suddenly remembered that his maid was unaware of the issue regarding the royal map. Only his family, Clementine's family, and Katrina were privy to this knowledge.

"Retrieve a parchment from the drawer of the table next to my bed," Desmond instructed, turning his attention back to the map.

Laura hurriedly opened the curtain separating her room from her young master's room upon hearing his request. She was immediately greeted by his familiar scent, confirming that she was in his personal space. She observed the small table beside the bed and recognized it as her young master's.

Unable to resist the temptation, Laura hesitated for a moment before reaching for her young master's pillow. She buried her face in it, taking in the comforting scent that belonged solely to him. After satisfying her senses, she returned the pillow to its rightful place and proceeded to make the bed.

With curiosity piqued, she opened a drawer in the small table and discovered a parchment rolled up with royal ribbons, realizing it was the item her young master had requested.

Meanwhile, Desmond was engrossed in studying the dynamic and lifelike map before him. The waves in the sea on the map seemed to move and breathe with life. However, he couldn't shake off the feeling of exhaustion and weakness coursing through his body.

Curious about his condition, Desmond decided to check his status using the system.

Desmond realized that the drain on his energy was a natural consequence of creating the map. The map not only appeared like a surveillance system, monitoring movements within the entire kingdom, but it also consumed a significant amount of his energy.

He noticed that there were still foggy areas on the map, indicating areas that were not yet fully explored. Desmond pondered whether the map he possessed was already more than sufficient for his needs and if he should be content with what he had. He wondered if anyone else in this world possessed a magic map like his.

Just as he was about to touch the map, a voice interrupted his thoughts.

"Young master, this is the item you requested." Laura entered the room, placing the item on the table. She noticed her young master smiling wryly as he waved his hand.

"You should rest now; I can see that you've been working too hard recently."

"But—" Desmond interjected firmly, cutting off any argument. "We take a break not only to recover, but also to remain vigilant against potential attacks."

Laura's gaze shifted, her expression growing serious as she absorbed his words. "Yes, young master," she acquiesced, swiftly making her way to her bed and drawing the curtains closed.

Before retreating into her own thoughts, she stole one last glance at Desmond, observing his contemplative demeanor.

I must ensure young master's safety.

...

As sleep finally claimed Laura, Desmond breathed a sigh of relief. It was a brief respite, but he needed it to focus on the task at hand.

"Now, I can finally study this map in peace," he murmured to himself.

Desmond's eyes scanned the position and the route he had to take. Just as Vesta had mentioned, there lay a treacherous canyon at the road's end—an inevitable obstacle on their path to the destination city.

In addition, the map revealed a sprawling lake, stretching across the distance between the Capital City and Helmfirth, effectively dividing their journey.

Curiosity sparked within Desmond as he reached out to touch the transparent map. As his hand neared its surface, the view expanded, revealing intricate details of the surrounding locations.

"Amazing! It even has a zoom feature," he exclaimed, reminiscent of his experiences with the map applications on his old-world cellphone.

Employing his index finger and thumb, he deftly pinched and expanded, further zooming in on the map's contents.

"Heh, this is truly incredible..."

With each successive zoom, the map grew more detailed, eventually revealing the icon of a horse-drawn carriage. The blue dot marked his own position, providing a valuable tool for monitoring their surroundings without needing to send scouts.

Desmond couldn't help but marvel at the map's utility, but he also noted a subtle drain on his energy, although the consumption was negligible and could be disregarded.
