Chapter 153: Outer City
While waiting for Laura, Desmond once again glanced out of the window and noticed that his horse-drawn carriage had passed through the dividing gate between the outer and inner city. Curiosity sparked within him, prompting him to inquire about the current day, month, and season.
"System, check the current day, month, and season," Desmond requested.

[System Conclusion: It is the 10th day of the first month, also known as Season 1 (Spring), in the year 430. The host has been in this world for 10 years.]
"Ah, if I recall correctly, I was born exactly five years after the split of the human kingdom, right?" Desmond pondered aloud.
[System: Yes, to be precise, you were born five years after Edward, the King of the North Kingdom, and Albert, the King of the South Kingdom, had ruled for five years.]
While lost in his thoughts, Desmond heard Laura's voice break the silence. "Your tea and book, young master." From a distance, Laura carefully placed the teacup on the tray and set it down on the table.
Desmond settled back onto his couch, his eyes meeting Laura's still lingering gaze. "Hmm? Is something the matter? You're free to carry on with your activities," he reassured her.
"I have already completed the cleaning and tidying of the room, young master," Laura replied spontaneously, as if she had anticipated Desmond's question.
"I see..." Desmond nodded, realizing that this room was within the confines of the horse carriage, not his actual home. Therefore, apart from cleaning and tidying, Laura's only duty was to serve him.
"Do as you please or take some rest. We are still in town, and this journey will take quite some time. I hope you don't find it tedious or cause any unnecessary trouble," Desmond advised.
"Yes, young master," Laura responded with excitement, remaining by his side and continuing to gaze at him intently.
Desmond proceeded to open the academy guidebook and silently began to read, ignoring Laura's unwavering gaze. The book itself appeared to be crafted from animal skin, with a roughly painted image of a distant academy scene adorning its front cover.
As he turned to the first page, Desmond was greeted by a welcome message: 'Welcome to the academy guidebook. Here, you can find information on the opening of registration and familiarize yourself with the rules before deciding to become a student.'
The academy only opens registration during the first season of the year, spanning a period of three months. Afterward, any latecomers will be rejected. Considering it was still the first month, Desmond realized he was ahead of the others. Typically, at this time, the road leading to the academy would be congested with numerous individuals making their way there, much like Desmond himself this time.
But ever since news of the Beasts Race roaming the kingdom's territory spread, there had been a significant decline in the number of people willing to apply to the Academy. Despite the reports of the kingdom successfully eliminating most of the escaped beasts over the past three years, it had only marginally bolstered the people's courage.
Lost in his thoughts, Desmond didn't realize that he had been engrossed in the book for a good fifteen minutes. Suddenly, a clap broke the silence, causing him to close the book contemplatively.
"Actually, I have plenty of time to conduct some experiments. However, with Vesta..." Desmond trailed off, his mind dwelling on the matter at hand.
Right from the beginning, Desmond had intended to decline the offer from former Grandmaster Weston, who had presented him and Alice with the royal troops by showcasing his employment of nearly all the mercenaries from the Guild.
However, when he witnessed the Guardian himself taking the initiative to take up this task and his parents having a personal connection with the Guardian, it became impossible for Desmond to refuse.
To an outsider, Desmond appeared to be gazing ahead, calmly sipping his tea. This sight brought a smile to Laura's face as she had been observing her young master.
Although only a single day had passed, she had already found happiness in serving him. And this joy would continue for the months to come.
"Cake, young master?" Laura opened her mouth, her eyes falling upon her young master who was only sipping his tea without any snacks.
"Yes, thank you." Suddenly, Desmond turned his gaze towards her, accompanied by a smile.
Ah! Witnessing that smile, Laura's heart raced rapidly. If it weren't for her common sense holding her back, she might have succumbed to doing something inappropriate to Desmond at that very moment. Hearts seemed to form in her eyes, and her enchantment towards Desmond only grew stronger.
"Please wait a moment, young master," Laura responded seductively. With deliberate intention, she rose from her seat, giving her young master a tantalizing glimpse of her shapely figure.
Just as Laura left to prepare the cake, a commotion erupted from the front of the carriage. "Halt!"
As this was Desmond's first time arriving at the outer city gate, he peered through the window with amazement. "Wow..." he murmured, captivated by the sight that lay before him.
On the other side of the gate stretched a vast world. Even from his current position, Desmond could behold the towering iceberg, which the book had described as the inner region of the Beasts' territory.
As Desmond approached that point, he noticed two paths neatly lined with stones before him. According to the plan, the horse-drawn carriages would take the right lane, where he could spot some dry trees in the distance.
"I finally escaped this cage..." Desmond's expression twitched, caught between feelings of happiness and sadness. Living in the city for seven years had ingrained a sense of routine and the need to remain vigilant around the clock.
If it weren't for the conflicts, the demon hunts, the battles against the evil organization, and the final confrontation with the black dragon, he might have been even more on edge, filled with tension, and perhaps fearful of the unknown world.
After waiting for five minutes, Desmond's horse-drawn carriage resumed its journey, slowly venturing into the outside world. Despite his mixed emotions, he couldn't help but feel an overwhelming sense of excitement.
"Ah... here I come, Saint World." The anticipation of encountering hidden treasures and the creatures he had read about in novels sent his blood racing, causing an involuntary grin to form on his face.
"System, scan the area around me and add it to the map."
For the second time since his birth ten years ago, Desmond activated this function once again. The system had not only scanned the entire city but also knew the intricate network of small streets that could lead to hideouts or gatherings of demons.

"Ah!" Desmond suddenly recalled something crucial. As a wise man once said, it was important to know one's weapon before using it, and it would be both foolish and dangerous to face an enemy and forget one's own spells.
