Chapter 120 Demon Clan Attacks the City
Under Gabriel's command, countless Demon Worms that resembled enlarged cockroaches, along with a vast army of oddly-shaped Demon Clan slaves, began their attack on the Unyielding Wall.
Chen Jiuge, who had already reached the top of the wall, had long been aware of the Demon Clan's presence but had refrained from rashly attacking due to lack of prior contact.
Watching a tall Demon Clan figure, resembling a clan chief, leading a group of bizarre creatures charging toward the battlements, Chen Jiuge knew the first assault of the Demon Clan had begun.
Gabriel, leading the charge, reached the opposite side of the Unyielding Wall in just a few breaths, manically throwing a blood-red orb.
Ming Yujing on top of the Unyielding Wall rose to meet it. Countless grains of sand converged to form a shield that blocked this attack.
Gazing at the nearly shattered shield, Ming Yujing's huge serpentine pupils narrowed slightly. "What tremendous power. It seems like just a casual strike from this demon."
"Hahaha, a great snake, eh? Worthy of a disciple of the Myriad Beasts Sect. Let me slaughter it and see if you'll still not lift a finger." The red patterns on Gabriel's face seemed to burn with fiery intensity.
"HA!"
After a loud shout, his body, which was only five meters tall, suddenly swelled to a hundred meters, matching the size of the Ming Snake.
The proud Ming Snake looked down disdainfully at Gabriel and mocked, "Are you trying to compete with me in size?"
Immediately after speaking, its body exploded in size to a kilometer high. Looking down at the tiny creature below, the Ming Snake's massive tail swept towards it, producing a series of sonic booms.
THUD!
Gabriel blocked with one hand. "Little snake, it's not size that determines might. Let me teach you."
After speaking, he grabbed Ming Yujing's tail and executed an over-the-shoulder throw.
Dust filled the air. Before it settled, several towering soldiers made of sand stabbed towards Gabriel. Without dodging, Gabriel punched each sand soldier, his tremendous strength causing the ground beneath his feet to cave in.
Chen Jiuge, observing from atop the wall, frowned deeply. What kind of joke is this? If every demon of the Mahayana Realm possesses this strength, could the Spirit Void Realm still hold? This physical body probably isn't just a bit weaker than mine, and I was even fortified by the Golden Lotus Birth Pool!
The battle below continued. As a Disaster Beast, Ming Yujing was at a disadvantage, largely due to a lack of combat experience. Despite thirty years of training in the Secret Realm, this was still too short compared to the long Life Spans of Cultivators.
Caught off guard once again by Gabriel, a punch landed on its belly, causing it to spit out a great mouthful of blood.
Gabriel, seizing the momentum for a follow-up attack, seemed to envision the glorious blood rain produced by the giant serpent head exploding.
"Hmm? You can actually catch my punch?" Staring at Chen Jiuge, who seemed as small as an ant before him, Gabriel exclaimed in astonishment.
"It doesn't seem too heavy," Chen Jiuge revealed a slight smile, his other hand clenching into a fist and shooting towards Gabriel.
As a member of the Earth Demon Clan, renowned for their physical prowess, Gabriel didn't shrink back. Instead, he reduced his size to clash fists with Chen Jiuge.
"How is this possible?" Gabriel, sent flying by the punch, ignored the pain in his hand, his voice filled with disbelief.
"Enough, Gabriel, stand down. You are no match for him." Gal, who had appeared in midair at some point, curbed Gabriel's desire to keep fighting.
Chen Jiuge squinted, sizing up the demon before him whose presence was clearly more formidable. His heart sank. Another stronger one. This isn't going to be easy.
Gal, fully aware that the Myriad Beasts Sect relied heavily on powerful Spiritual Beasts, also harbored caution. This disciple of the Myriad Beasts Sect is very strong. It's unclear how many Demon General-level Spiritual Beasts he possesses. Perhaps it's best to use the cannon fodder to wear him down first and then launch a full attack once reinforcements from the Moluo Royal Family arrive.
The two parties, each harboring their own thoughts, stood off silently in midair while the siege continued below.
Mindless Demon Worms, along with those low-intelligence, death-defying slave soldiers, climbed the Unyielding Wall like ants.
The attacks from various Magic Artifacts caused a great number of deaths. Within just one hour, a thick layer of bodies had piled up at the base of the Unyielding Wall, yet the Demon Clan's assault showed no sign of abating.
Upon closer inspection, Chen Jiuge's pupils shrank. What in the world is this?
He saw the Demon Clan corpses rapidly dissolve, and then Demon Worms began to emerge. For almost every two Demon Worm corpses, one new Demon Worm would spawn. It was even more outrageous with the Slave Army corpses—each body could give rise to at least three Demon Worms. This is simply endless!
Gal noted Chen Jiuge's gaze, and a terrifying smile spread across his rugged face. "Kid, is this your first time fighting us in a war?"
"See? Our Demon Worms are endless. As long as Life exists—even if it's as insignificant as grass by the roadside—Demon Worms can crawl out and fight again. You can't hold out. I think highly of you. Why not join the great Shajia Royal Family?"
Chen Jiuge was, of course, not swayed by Gal's words, responding coldly, "I remember, several Hui Yuan ago, your Shajia Royal Family was almost annihilated by us, wasn't it?"
Gal roared back, "That was the past! Things are different now!"
Watching Gal depart with Gabriel after his roar, Chen Jiuge's unease intensified. Something about these demons seems off. Didn't Brother Lun Shan's Jade Scroll say that the Demon Clan are the most hot-tempered? And shouldn't a demon of the Shajia Royal Family, upon hearing such a thing, rush forward in a rage to fight to the death? Why is this one different?
Although confused, Chen Jiuge had no intention of initiating an attack. Ming Yujing is no match for that Gabriel. It needs more refinement before it can contend with him.
It's also hard to say if there are other Demon Generals among the Demon Clan. Plus, Bali hasn't awakened, contrary to my expectations, leaving our side clearly lacking in top-tier combat power.
The Demon Clan's probing attack lasted a full three days.
The once White Jade-like Unyielding Wall was now smeared with a thick crust of blood. Even though the Demon Clan corpses below melted, they left behind a substance akin to asphalt. The yellow earth had been stained black, a testament to the intensity of the Demon Clan's probing attacks.
Returning to the City Lord Mansion, Chen Jiuge rubbed his temples, looking over the casualty statistics Andre handed him.
Nearly a million combatants from all levels had been lost. There were virtually no casualties among those at or above the Fourth Rank. Below the Fourth Rank, however, the losses were heavy, especially for the daredevil squad, which was almost entirely wiped out.
Looking at the dreadful battle report, Chen Jiuge's headache intensified. For three days, the Demon Clan only deployed cannon fodder. Not a single proper demon soldier participated, yet we've lost ten percent of our forces. Defending the city seems hopeless.
"Recruit troops from the entire Northern Territory," Chen Jiuge announced, his mind already working on the practicalities. "And at the same time, urge the logistics department to mass-produce Low Rank Elixirs. We need to replenish a large number of low-level Cultivators."
He had already decided on his next move: I'll bring in a batch of cannon fodder to hold the line for now. They're natives of this world anyway, and it's not like I feel any strong connection to them.
Andre opened his mouth to speak but ultimately said nothing and silently went to carry out the orders.
