Chapter 53
Two days later.
The celebration was just around the corner.
After a few days, the celebration was to be held at the palace.
Sellonia had gone out to take care of business one by one before the celebration.
“Whoa! I really got to see the Princess in person!”
Sellonia jumped up and down when she saw Maxwell standing in front of her under the bright sun.
“Thank you for helping me.”
Sellonia thanked the freckled boy, Maxwell.
This was now a shantytown.
Today, thanks to Maxwell, she was going to easily achieve her purpose of coming here.
On her way to the slums, Sellonia had borrowed Ella’s clothes in case she was noticed. Her long, thick hair was tied up tightly and she was wearing a robe.
“Wasn’t it hard to come here?”
“If you’re worried about your life, screw off.”
As Maxwell giggled at Sellonia, Tan immediately growled.
Red eyes that burned like fire on a wick were glaring at Maxwell.
“Brother! What’s with that disappointing remark!”
Maxwell laughed at Tan’s warning, as if he had heard it more than once or twice.
‘Oh, he’s great, though?’
Sellonia was amazed at Maxwell’s slyness.
Most people who faced Tan would be scared and turn pale, yet Maxwell was different.
After all, calling Tan ‘brother’ was an extraordinary act of courage.
She came to the shantytown in search of the underworld guild Storm.
The guild’s hideout was located at the end of the shantytown, in a remote place where no one had set foot.
There was only one reason for her to come here.
She could no longer trust the information Gillian had been giving her about Grace, so she asked for information from other guilds from the beginning.
She wanted them to do the work as secretly as possible, thus she was looking for an underworld guild, and at that moment, Tan told her that he knew someone there very well, and introduced her to Maxwell.
So today, she came to meet the guild leader of Storm, which was well-known among the underworld guilds, although not as much as the Finnest guild.
“This is where Brother used to stay.”
Before going to the guild building, Maxwell pointed somewhere with his finger and said.
Sellonia, who was following his guidance and going inside the shantytown, naturally turned her head.
At the end of her gaze, she saw a temporary building.
There was a house-like shape made of broken planks, but it looked so fragile that it would break if hammered a few times.
“It’s the best royal room in the shantytown.”
When Sellonia seemed interested, Maxwell smiled jokingly and pulled back the cloth that was presumed to be the door.
The hidden interior appeared.
“You stayed here?”
She opened her eyes wide in surprise.
“Yes.”
Tan nodded.
In disbelief, Sellonia looked around with trembling eyes.
Maxwell said this was the best place in the shantytown.
In the room with little light, all that was there were a few piled up blankets. That seemed to be the bed.
The floor was nothing but the dirt from the empty lot. It was humid and damp.
The gaps between the planks that made up the ceiling were wide, so there were empty places where they weren’t filled in.
If it rained, the water would leak in and the floor would get soaked.
Although she heard that he had wandered around the shantytown without his memories, it was beyond her imagination.
Since she had wandered around without her memories, it was obvious that she had stayed in a luxurious room.
She had a vague idea, yet seeing it with her own eyes made her heart feel so uncomfortable.
“I don’t exactly sleep. It was okay.”
Tan snickered at Sellonia and said. Just by looking at her, her expression was clearly worried.
“Who said what?”
Sellonia looked away, feeling awkward at his answer that seemed to read her mind.
Why was he smiling again, she wondered.
Now, it seems like she sees him smiling just by making eye contact.
“To think that he’s smiling…”
Maxwell muttered blankly as he saw Tan’s smiling face between the two of them.
Soon, he shook his head as if he was seeing something.
Then Tan’s face became expressionless as if he had never seen anything like that.
Of course. I must have seen something wrong.
There’s no way Brother would smile so casually.
“The guild is further inside.”
Maxwell regained his senses and continued his guidance.
With him in the lead, Sellonia, Tan, and Ella passed the shantytown and went even further inside.
“This is it. Come on in.”
Maxwell bowed politely as they had arrived at a building.
Sellonia smiled faintly, not feeling burdened by the excessive behavior, but rather finding it cute, and looked at the exterior of the building in front of her.
Was it because the guild was based in the underworld and had to be invisible?
The exterior of the building was truly shabby. It looked like an abandoned house where no one lived.
The building, made of only gray bricks, had all the windows ripped out.
It had such an eerie atmosphere that even passersby wouldn’t be curious about it.
“Let’s go together.”
Tan approached Sellonia, who was still unable to move her feet, and said.
“Ella and I will go together.”
“Don’t be stubborn.”
Tan narrowed his eyebrows. She obviously looked a little scared.
“The two of us are enough. Don’t follow me in.”
Sellonia, who had returned to her usual self, spoke to Tan with a serious expression.
Rather than being scared, she was just a little surprised because it was unfamiliar.
Although it would be safer to take Tan with her, she didn’t want to tell him what she was asking for.
“Sellonia.”
Tan reached out instead of taking a step back when he saw her unique eyes.
“A fallen leaf.”
His hand naturally removed the fallen leaf from her hair.
“Ah, thank you.”
Sellonia flinched at the sudden affectionate sound of her name and his actions, but soon greeted him calmly.
Hmm?
But it was strange.
Even though he was done, he kept stroking her hair.
Even though he wasn’t waiting for it, his gaze never left her hair.
“Is this how it’s always been?”
Tan muttered as he continued to stroke the ends of her lavender hair with his clunky, rough hands.
For the silky, soft texture felt good.
Strangely enough, everything about her was soft. Her hands, her body, even her hair.
She flinched every time he touched her.
“What is it?”
“Are you all this soft?”
“Pardon? Well, I guess it’s because I have less muscle mass than men. Hair is mostly like that.”
Since it was always the case that he asked her questions about this and that, Sellonia didn’t get surprised this time and answered.
She also didn’t really care that he was touching her hair.
Not only did he hold her hand every night, but he was always leaning on her shoulder, so what about hair?
Maybe that’s why Tan and Sellonia were so comfortable with each other. So much so that onlookers might misunderstand.
“I’ll be going then.”
“Call me right away if you need me.”
Sellonia nodded instead of answering and entered the building without hesitation. Ella followed her right away.
Tan stared at her back and tightly clenched the hand that had touched her hair. With a look of regret.
“B-Brother…?”
He even forgot that Maxwell was next to him.
Maxwell was speechless at the sight before his eyes.
He was dumbfounded by his brother… he means, Tan’s actions.
As soon as Princess Basin entered the shantytown, he followed her around as if he were her guardian dog, keeping a close eye on her.
Even that smile that he had dismissed earlier as a mistake was real. It was really his brother smiling brightly at the Princess.
He had known him for three months, yet this was the first time he had seen him smile like that.
More than that, she would be back in just a few minutes, yet he looked regretful!
“Brother! Since when did it start?”
