Chapter 52
A little after midnight, which came without fail.
Sellonia healed Tan’s pain and fell asleep in bed.
He stared blankly at her sleeping face again today.
These days, she often fell asleep while holding his hand. Thanks to that, it was nice to see her sleeping like this.
He stretched out his fingers, unable to take his eyes off her calm, peaceful face once again.
His outstretched thumb swept back the bangs covering Sellonia’s round forehead.
Then, two straight eyebrows were revealed. And below them, long eyelashes curled up.
The corners of his lips went up as if satisfied with the clear face that he could finally see.
It had become a habit for him to look at Sellonia’s sleeping face since some time ago.
He thought hard about why, and he liked having this defenseless, unseen face to himself.
For no one could see her sleeping face. Only he could see her now.
Specially.
“Special.”
Tan repeated the word ‘special’ that Sellonia had said to him.
What was strange was that the word ‘special’ had truly become special to him, as its meaning suggested.
Every moment spent with her had become special in his mind.
Is that why?
He was becoming more and more greedy.
Her midnight was monopolized by him, yet not her daytime.
When the sun rose, there were many people looking for her, even if it wasn’t him, and she also had many men she met.
Ah, I just want to kill them all.
A preconceived desire blossomed in Tan’s heart.
If he could get rid of everyone she was looking at, then the only thing in those blue eyes would be him.
If this feeling continued, maybe he would really get rid of everything around her.
Tan suppressed the unfamiliar emotions that he couldn’t define.
For now, it’s because she doesn’t want it. Because he decided not to touch her people.
At the moment, he didn’t want to disappoint her because he had already promised. So now it was time to deal with the guy who wasn’t her person.
She said he wasn’t her person anymore. So it didn’t matter if he touched him.
Tan hummed to himself and disappeared in an instant.
In the empty room, as if no one had ever been there, Sellonia was still fast asleep on the bed.
***
“W-What are you going to do! We got cut off because of you! You said we wouldn’t get caught!”
Jane couldn’t stand it anymore and threw her bag down, raising her voice at Rubeus.
The three of them were kicked out of the duke’s residence in the middle of the night while everyone was asleep, walking aimlessly down the street.
The Princess caught them right away.
She already knew everything, so she made a big deal out of it. That they had secretly put the valuables they had stolen at Rubeus’ behest in the guest room.
The Princess said she wouldn’t hold Laura and Jane accountable, yet she ended up having them fired from the duke’s residence without mercy. They had lost their jobs for life after falling for Rubeus’s trick of giving them a few gold coins.
“Shut up! Who the hell are you raising your voice to!”
“Give me the gold coins you promised!”
Jane couldn’t go on like this, so she asked Rubeus for gold coins.
She needed them to survive and find another job.
“Shut up!”
“Kyaaak!”
Rubeus, who was furious at Jane’s voice grumbling beside him, finally wielded force.
Jane fell to the ground helplessly after being hit in the face by the arm he swung.
“Screw off. Before I cut off all your heads.”
Rubeus growled, blaming them as if he wasn’t to blame, as if he couldn’t see anything.
“J-Jane. Let’s go. Hurry up!”
“I won’t forgive you! I won’t!”
Laura, who was scared, grabbed Jane who was crying while holding her hit eye.
Jane, whom she was dragging, screamed at Rubeus.
“Kyaak.
Ptooey
.”
Rubeus spat as if it was filthy, looking at the two maids who ran away.
Who dared to raise their voices at him?
Even if he looked like this now, he wasn’t in the same situation as the maids.
“F*ck.”
He gritted his teeth as he recalled the last time he saw that bastard’s face.
To be right next to the Princess and laughing like that.
He was absolutely, absolutely not going to let this go. He was going to kill that bastard and take back everything he had achieved.
That was when.
A black shadow suddenly appeared on the street where no one was, and fell upon Rubeus.
“EUAGH! Ain’t you letting go of me!”
Tan grabbed Rubeus’s struggling face with one hand and dragged him along.
In the dark night, his red eyes flashed like a yaksha for the first time in a long while.
“I’ll kill you bastard! I’ll kill you!”
Rubeus screamed as his face felt as if it was going to break because of Tan’s evil power.
He couldn’t escape even if he wanted to. All he could do was grab his face with one hand and got dragged along, yet he couldn’t handle it.
He hit the bastard’s hands and arms with both hands, yet he wouldn’t budge. He tried to grab the sword at his waist, but he couldn’t reach it.
No matter what, Tan dragged Rubeus until the heels of his shoes fell off and entered an empty lot where no one was.
He then threw Rubeus’ face that he was holding onto.
“EUAGH!”
Rubeus’s body, which had been flying through the air, soon fell to the ground.
“Uugh.”
He frowned and got up from his seat without hesitation, feeling a tingling pain in his tailbone.
“You dare come here on your own feet, wanting to die.”
Rubeus gritted his teeth and pulled out the sword he had on his waist with his now free body.
Not only did you dare humiliate me, but you dared come here without a weapon.
It didn’t matter what kind of strength that guy had. He could just cut off his head with his sword.
Tan cackld at Rubeus’ ignorance.
It was fun to see him fight back without even anticipating what would happen next.
“Know your place! Do you dare think that you can hang out with the Princess!”
Tan’s eyebrows rose subtly, forming a diagonal line at Rubeus’s remark that resonated throughout the empty lot.
“How dare a lowly thing like you look down on the Princess! Don’t be mistaken that you can rise up!”
“You’re not her person anymore, are you.”
Tan opened his mouth as if he didn’t want to hear any more.
He didn’t intend to deal with him for long.
He wanted to finish quickly and go back to the sleeping Sellonia.
“Hahaha! You were never the Princess’ person in the first place. You never will be.”
Rubeus laughed at Tan.
Even though he was kicked out of his position as the leader now, that bastard was different from him, who was the Princess’ person in the first place.
That lowly thing couldn’t be the Princess’ person.
How dare he look up at a place he shouldn’t even dare to go.
“You’re begging me to kill you quickly.”
“Hieeek!”
Rubeus unconsciously swallowed a breath at Tan’s appearance right in front of him.
There had clearly been a distance between them just now, yet Tan was standing in front of him in the blink of an eye.
Even the red eyes that met his gaze were sharp as if they would devour everything.
However, Rubeus, who soon came to his senses, raised his sword and swung it clearly at Tan.
“W-What is this…”
Then, he was shocked to see the sword in his hand turn to dust and scatter.
The sword that had been clean until just now, the sword that had been sharp and flashing, suddenly turned to sand and slipped out of his hand.
The sword disappeared.
When he opened his eyes to the unbelievable sight, he saw Tan’s slanted face smiling calmly.
At that moment, Rubeus shivered.
The cold red eyes that met his eyes felt like the tip of a spear piercing deep into his lungs.
“Should I crush your shameless face? Or should I pull out your tongue so you can never speak again?”
“Y-You… Ugh!”
Rubeus, who was responding to those creepy words, couldn’t finish his words. Tan grabbed his neck with one hand as if he was holding a doll. In an instant, his two legs, floating in the air, struggled miserably for survival.
He was trying to frame him, yet he was still struggling to live.
How funny it was.
“
C-Cough…
!”
“Or should I just poke a hole in this stomach?”
The moonlight that had been hidden by the clouds fell on his face along with his cruel and maddening voice.
There was no mercy on Tan’s revealed face.
His eyes were as fierce as a beast that had found its prey in the darkness and glared.
“Choose.”
“
Cough, cough…
!”
“Ah, geez. You can’t speak.”
Tan spoke slyly, and raised his lips in a smirk.
He was so relaxed that one wouldn’t think he was holding someone else’s breath.
“Then I’ll choose for you.”
Tan hit Rubeus’s stomach with his other free hand.
“KEUUUUGH!”
A cruel and terrible scream echoed through the empty space where no one was looking.
It felt like all the organs in his stomach were bursting with excruciating pain.
Rubeus’s blood vessels burst and liquid flowed out from his bloodshot eyes, nose, and mouth.
His vision turned white and he felt like he would suffocate at any moment, but Rubeus managed to speak with difficulty.
“Keuuuuuugh, y-you monster, ugh! You’re a, ugh, monster!”
“No one will know about your death. A truly pitiful end befitting you.”
Tan relaxedly tightened his grip on Rubeus’s neck.
“EUAAAAAGH!”
With a cracking sound, Rubeus’ throat bone crumbled, then his last scream echoed throughout the area before suddenly stopping.
Thud.
Tan dropped Rubeus, whom he was holding, on the floor. Soon, his limp body turned into ash and scattered in the wind.
Not even a speck of ash remained where Rubeus had been a few seconds ago. As if he had never been born into this world, there was no trace.
Tan turned around and walked out of the empty lot.
It didn’t matter anymore whether he was a monster, a human, or not. Since she said he was special, that was all that mattered.
However, the words that he couldn’t stand next to her were very annoying.
“Hmm.”
Tan thought as if he was in agony, and then smiled faintly.
If he couldn’t get with her, then he could just go up to where she was.
No one saw Rubeus after that day.
