Chapter 293: This Is Prince Colin's Territory (Part 4)
Kedson's expression changed slightly upon hearing this.
There are two types of subspace turbulence: one is active interference from Hell or Chaos, common on the frontlines of the New Continent, and the other is a natural phenomenon, often seen in sparsely populated areas.
If he had a choice, he hoped it was not the former.
However, seeing the calm reaction from the Imperial Baron, it seemed unlikely that Hell's corruption had spread here.
"By the way, that storm, did you... see it?" Kedson continued to ask.
"Are you talking about the one you encountered? No, we didn't..." Ticky casually replied, his tone natural, "But these past few days we've had very strong winds here, and it's been raining and the tides have been rising. For safety, I had the residents of Withered Wood Port evacuated to nearby mountains... not far from here."
As he said this, he swore.
"It's a complete mess."
Kedson said with a bitter smile.
"Us too. This shipwreck... cost me dearly."
"Haha, I can tell. To be honest, it's a miracle you survived."
Ticky glanced teasingly at the steam schooner perched halfway up the mountain.
Kedson could only shrug helplessly at his teasing, signaling with his eyes to laugh if you want.
Ticky didn't continue to tease him; he withdrew his gaze from the broken ship and continued to talk to Kedson.
"Let's talk business. We won't let you perish, but we're in a tricky situation ourselves and can't support you for free."
Kedson immediately replied upon hearing this.
"Rest assured, we can work in exchange for food."
"That's great," Ticky laughed and patted Kedson on the shoulder, continuing, "If you're willing to help us rebuild our homes, we can provide you with food, fresh water... even pay you in gold."
The ship's supplies were nearly exhausted, the rum diluted with seawater, the sailors were so hungry they started drinking rainwater and gnawing on bark... even Kedson's own stomach was empty at the moment.
Hearing that they were willing to provide food, he didn't hesitate for a second and immediately agreed.
"Deal!"
There was no teleportation array or stable shipping route... who knew when the next ship would arrive here.
Since leaving here wasn't an option in the short term, a job with room and board sounded like a godsend, and he had no intention of refusing it. Even if it meant mining in a cave, it was certainly better than being a savage in the desolate mountains.
Furthermore,
that apocalyptic tsunami likely had affected all ports on the New Continent.
Now every colony was busy with its own affairs; no one would spare a thought to search for a few "missing" merchant ships at sea.
The most important thing now was to survive.
"I'm glad you made the right choice. We will take you to Withered Wood Port, then I'll tell you what to do."
Ticky nodded with satisfaction, extending his hand.
Kedson didn't hesitate, and shook his hand.
"Before working, I just want a full meal... To be honest, I barely have the strength to talk to you now."
Ticky smiled and said:
"Rest assured! Withered Wood Port welcomes all hardworking people... whether poor or rich, whether you leave or stay in the end, as long as you're willing to contribute, we surely won't let you go hungry."
Shifting his tone, he casually glanced towards the southern edge of the rainforest and added another sentence afterward.
"However, as a friendly warning, I have to remind you—"
"We haven't completely conquered this land, so it's best not to venture too deep into that southern rainforest."
Kedson immediately became tense.
"Is there something there?"
"There are hordes of Lizardmen; they are real primitive savages who eat raw flesh. If they catch you, they'll carve out your heart to offer it to their Dragon God."
Seeing Kedson turn pale with fright, Ticky laughed and patted his shoulder again.
"But don't worry, Withered Wood Port is safe... The venerable Prince Colin has reached an agreement with those Lizardmen, not intruding on each other. Of course, don't provoke them; we won't break our hard-won agreement or waste our bullets and lives for a few reckless fools."
"I will remember your advice," Captain Kedson said swallowing nervously, "We will only operate near Withered Wood Port..."
Ticky nodded with a smile.
"As long as you remember. The weather hasn't been good, and they haven't discovered you, so you're really lucky...
As he said this, he turned around and waved to his soldiers to signal them to turn around.
"...Come with me; this isn't a place to linger."
"We'll talk more about the future once we reach the camp."
