The Lord Demon King is Unfathomable!

Chapter 203: A Contest Without Suspense

Duke Edward was not in a hurry. The person he wished to meet would be seen sooner or later, and the first step to leaving a good impression on the other party was patience.

Furthermore, he could use this time to observe what exactly this legendary Mr. Roxey Colin had done that was so astonishing in Thunder City.

Meanwhile, far away in the southern part of Silver Pine Forest, Baron Ges was in a state of panic.

Just like Governor Wilson, who was caught off guard by Duke Edward's sudden visit, he was equally alarmed by Her Highness the Princess's visit.

However, unlike Governor Wilson, his panic wasn't because the Princess arrived unannounced, but because while he was confidently preparing to receive her, he discovered that his subordinates had created a colossal mess.

In the northern part of Silver Pine Forest, a mighty troop was assembling, approximately two thousand militia bearing firearms stood in formation.

And on the militia's flank, fifty cavalrymen in breastplates brandishing gleaming war blades and short flintlock guns were watching the north with vigilant eyes.

Before them stood a sparse group of skeleton soldiers, their empty skulls emitting a sinister chill.

Baron Ges, clad in heavy armor, rode his warhorse to the front of the formation and unleashed a tirade of insults at Sheriff Adela.

"Damn it, how did a fortress suddenly spring up in my territory?! Why haven't I heard anything about this? What kind of sheriff are you?"

Looking at this armored wild boar, Adela felt an urge to laugh inside.

Why?

How could this guy have the nerve to ask!

Months ago this guy explicitly instructed him to drive away the refugees from Twilight Province out of his territory, and to ensure that there wasn't a single beggar in Silver Pine Town.

Not only that, but he also specifically pointed out a haunted mine to the north as a place to send them if necessary, claiming it was at least a shelter from the wind and rain.

Of course, he wasn't actually fond of those refugees; he just found the lord's question adorably naïve.

"Those people were refugees from Twilight Province, I drove them out of your domain as per your instructions."

Ges bellowed in a grumbling roar.

"But why didn't you pick a better spot? Why not dig a pit and bury them?"

Adela patiently replied.

"Didn't you tell me to drive them north?"

He initially wanted to save some face for this man, but it seemed this guy genuinely believed it was necessary to make him take the blame.

Nowadays Silver Pine Town was not what it had been a year ago; with Father Matt's help, he had become the de facto master of the town, deciding how many cattle or how much grain would go missing each year.

He called this guy Baron out of courtesy; without it, he could replace the head of the Gess family.

Baron Ges's face reddened with anger, almost wanting to whip him, but quickly remembered they were on the battlefield and could not afford to burn bridges at this moment.

He would settle the score with this guy once they got back!

Baron Ges gritted his teeth, swallowed his indignation for the moment, and whispered.

"Shoot it down for me! Before Her Highness the Princess arrives at my baron territory!"

Adela silently sneered, but still replied respectfully.

"As you command."

It was just a sham battle, not the first he'd fought.

Even before coming here, he had already informed the demons in the Demon King Territory through Father Matt.

Later during the fight, they'd simply fire a few blank shots skywards or smash some skeletons, then turn and run when the enemy charged; the baron couldn't blame him for that.

However, what Adela didn't foresee was that when he ordered several rounds of salvo that shattered a few rows of skeleton soldiers, a foolhardy baron actually thought they had the upper hand and drew his war blade to charge forward.

"Charge! Everyone, follow me, charge! Draw your swords for the honor of Saint Xi, for the Campbell Duchy! Crush this bunch of skeletons for me!"

"Kill!!!"

Rallied by Baron Ges, the fifty breastplate cavalry, fully strapped and eager, launched a ferocious charge like a torrent rushing toward the sparse cluster of skeleton soldiers.

Unsurprisingly, those skeleton soldiers were smashed to pieces by the charge of the fifty cavalry, shattered and unable to regroup...

Yet these guys were just a group of cannon fodder, hardly even that; they were merely expendables that an Undead Mage could wave in a large number.

"Hehehe—"

A sound like tinkling laughter suddenly echoed from within the forest, causing the cavalry wielding their war blades to feel a chill down their spine, with every nerve taut.

Yet, as they looked around, they couldn't discern where the laughter emanated from, nor did they know where the threat was coming from.

"Who's there! Show yourself!"

Ges shouted in a fit of panic as he held onto the reins, intending to turn and retreat to a safer position, but it was already too late.

A gray fog had risen from nowhere, gradually taking the place of the skeletal soldiers, enveloping him as tightly as a cage.

"Damn it..."

Baron Ges was both frightened and furious, cursing as he raised his flintlock gun to fire, only to see it transform into a snake staring back at him, frightening him enough to hurriedly throw the "snake" away.
