Chapter 154: Blazing Sun in the Sky!_4
"Dagger Rain!"
Flickering afterimages resembled shuttles gliding through the air; one moment they were charging straight at the Black Knight's face, the next second they had already burst forth from his chest.
In merely an instant, the Black Knight's armor was pierced with holes, exposing the crimson blood and chaotic miasma.
The severely wounded Black Knight knelt on one knee, relying solely on his long sword to support his body. A pitiful howl finally emerged from beneath the silent, black armor.
That sound was like an anguished wail, yet also like a devout prayer.
Just as that howl resounded, a strange apparition suddenly appeared in the air beneath the dome of the Maze.
A burning skull loomed over the land, its sun-like pupils gazing below, searing the entire battlefield with its scorching gaze.
Bathed in that searing light, both the Kao warriors and the Beastman soldiers let out agonized screams.
Their skin emitted wisps of azure smoke, as if set ablaze.
Meanwhile, beneath that blistering radiance, the Black Knight's power seemed to be sublimated, his wounds visibly healing at a speed detectable to the naked eye.
Glak watched the Black Knight rise once more, his expression faintly perturbed.
"Is this... Holy Light?!"
Tanos, his face shrouded in a black cloak, spoke gravely with a hoarse voice.
"Holy Light doesn't look like this..."
Holy Light wouldn't scald the living; it only harms the Undead and Demons.
Yet that incinerating radiance was obviously the reverse; everyone alive, except for the chosen of Chaos, was equally affected by that light... including Demons!
Conversely, the Undead suffered no harm at all!
It was more akin to the pure sun!
Watching the Black Knight stand again, Taros and Glak readied their weapons anew, looking as if they were facing a formidable enemy.
The Black Knight removed his helmet, revealing a face riddled with pustules and a mouth cornered with a ghastly, sinister smirk.
All of a sudden, he started to speak in a sputtering voice.
"You are strong... you have earned the favor of my Lord... but this is as far as you go."
Watching the Black Knight brandishing his long sword, Glak carrying his Battle Axe scoffed.
"I thought you were a mute, but it turns out you can talk."
The Black Knight paid him no heed, instead staring at his long sword, muttering enigmatic truths akin to a Spell.
"My name is Atom, servant of the flame that destroys all, the fierce sun that burns all... embrace your end with honor!"
The long sword in his hand now resembled a burning torch, the turbid and crimson glow was like twilight plummeting to the horizon!
Just then, a petite and exquisite silhouette suddenly appeared in the air, with crimson eyes radiating a deadly intent.
"Die for me!!!" A suppressed growl emerged from Qianqian's mouth, her delicate and youthful face contorted with rage.
Like a tidal wave, spiritual power condensed into a long spear at her brow, thrusting straight at the Black Knight's skull.
But an accident occurred.
Perhaps because her people were enduring the torment of the scorching sun, unable to offer the surging spiritual power like before.
The spearhead built from spiritual power was like a toothpick misfired against a city wall—it didn't harm him in the slightest; on the contrary, it was scorched by the chaotic flames.
Pain pierced her brow. Floating in the air, Qianqian let out a cry of agony and plummeted straight down to the battlefield.
The Black Knight named Atom merely glanced in her direction, coldly chuckling.
"What a nuisance of a fly."
Glak glanced at the direction where the Little Demon had fallen.
He didn't care about the creature's fate, but was alarmed that this fellow was completely unscathed from the Little Demon's spiritual power attack!
"This is troublesome..." Tanos, spinning the dagger in his hand, said with a shimmer in his eyes, "If Bransia turns cowardly, just the two of us might not be a match for him."
Initially, he had planned to present this fellow's head as an apology to the Lord Demon King, but now he was trapped in a predicament.
Glak watched the burning long sword, a steely silence in his gaze, pondering something in the depths of his mind.
Speaking of which, where is the Demon King?
The blood shed by the Blood Blade Clan has already proved their loyalty, yet that guy has never shown up from beginning to end...
Falling from the sky, Qianqian only felt a moment of dizziness, her wavering consciousness flickering before her eyes like a slideshow.
She tried to flap her wings to stabilize the air current whizzing past her, but her body simply wouldn't respond to her commands.
The spiritual backlash from Chaos almost scorched her nerves, she couldn't even feel her body below her neck anymore.
Maybe she shouldn't have let anger cloud her judgment because of her clan's suffering, maybe she should have been more cautious... but now it seems pointless to say that.
She felt her speed increasing, already surpassing the critical point for a safe landing, with no hope of pulling up again.
Feeling the increasingly turbulent air current by her ears, Qianqian managed a bitter smile on her face.
Although the Land of Nightmare has never had a queen for more than ten years, she might end up being the shortest-lived... and the only one to die from a fall.
It's hard to say which is more humiliating, this or being strung up on a flagpole.
She hoped that Lord Demon King would be a bit more lenient towards the Great Graveyard for her loyalty to the end.
She also hoped that Mi Xi could shoulder the responsibility resting on her shoulders.
Among all her subordinates, only that guy seemed a bit sharp-witted, though a bit less steady...
But these things can be cultivated slowly.
Just as Qianqian was closing her eyes and almost resigned to her fate, a warm and solid touch suddenly caught the back of her head.
The rushing air current seemed to be throttled by that powerful arm, and the rapid descent halted abruptly.
Feeling the heart-quickening warmth, Qianqian's eyes snapped open, and she was greeted by an unexpected face.
"Lord, Lord Demon King?!"
Her face was full of surprise; she couldn't understand why the Demon King was here, nor how he, with only Bronze-Level strength, could fly.
Honestly, Luo Yan's flying isn't that great, but there's no problem in using Qi Magic to haul himself up.
Not to mention he's now Silver Level.
Even when he was Bronze Level before, he could easily manage by his understanding of spells and control over Magic Power.
"Does this count as repaying the favor from before?" Looking at that blush-stained pretty face, Luo Yan casually cracked a joke.
The situation at this moment seemed almost identical to the one back in the Mist Forest, the only difference being that it was him below, looking up at that effortlessly charming smile.
Now, the positions of the two were completely reversed.
But unlike him, the queen of the Land of Nightmare clearly didn't have his calmness or to put it bluntly, his thick skin.
Her delicate little face was now thoroughly flushed like a ripe apple, creeping past her clear earlobes toward her fair neck.
He'll just pretend she's been sunburned.
After all, it's not just him who needs face; his vassals need it, too.
The normally dignified and elegant Qianqian fumbled with her lips in panic, stammering for quite a while before squeezing out a sentence.
"Lord, Lord Demon King... You, you shouldn't be here, that guy... You're not his match..."
Luo Yan's eyebrows raised slightly.
"Who allowed you to say that?"
"Sorry! Please forgive my disrespect... I... I... was just worried about you..." Realizing her faux pas, Qianqian hung her head in extreme shame, wishing she could struggle free and crash headfirst to the ground.
Looking at Qianqian curled up in his arms, Luo Yan smiled faintly. Although he found this contrast amusing, considering the future of their association, he did not continue to tease her and instead brought the conversation to a timely close.
Controlling the air current trailing by his side, he gently descended. Luo Yan's feet touched the ground, then he looked up towards that "sun" burning like a fierce flame under the dome.
The sun seemed just like a Giant's head!
A pair of burning pupils was overlooking the earth, observing those chess pieces manipulated and scorched by His will.
Gradually, He seemed to detect an unusual gaze, and those eyes filled with murder and provocation focused on Luo Yan at the same time.
Responding to that fiery gaze as the Demon King, Luo Yan replied in an offhand voice to Qianqian's earlier incoherent concern.
"You needn't worry about me."
"This is my Demon King Territory."
"And it's my home ground."
