Chapter 100: War V
Amrit looked around him and found the situation was still in chaos. Although the cultivators had come to their senses, there was no organized fight. None of the cultivators had been trained as an army so it was expected to be a group of disorganized mobs. Amrit looked at the place where the invaders were greatest in numbers and ran towards them.
He had not used his halberd for the real battle. Although he had battled hundreds of times in the illusion array, he knew it was an illusion the whole time so there was still some difference between feeling of life and death and being in an actual life-and-death situation. The invaders were gradually standing their ground so the battle was getting tougher for the Rijal clan. At this moment almost every capable cultivator in the clan had taken part in the battle.
Even the auxiliary professionals were battling with whatever they had. Even the fight of qi sensing realm cultivators was getting intense. Although the casualty rate slowed down the number of cultivators getting injured didn’t. From the foundation building realm cultivator’s fight, the stray attacks would sometimes hit random qi sensing cultivators injuring them gravely or outright killing them. Amrit ran towards the place where foundation building realm cultivators were fighting and swung his halberd in a half moon shaped slightly inclined motion.
Using the first move of the heavenly halberd technique, Amrit killed one initial stage foundation building cultivator by almost decapitating him. It was a cultivator from a minor clan. Although the foundation building cultivators have the divine sense to scan their surroundings, paired with nine nether steps, Amrit was silent as a cat. He blended with the shadows and the night was helping him big time. The cultivator had barely any time to react when a blade of halberd slashed through the left shoulder to half his face.
Amrit cleaved him from the side and his last moment was looking at Amrit bewildered. The blade of the halberd was pristine after it came through the cultivator and the cut was clean. It took a moment for the cultivator to register what happened when the upper half of his face fell down along with part of his shoulder. Blood slowly squeezed and it began to spray as a fountain all over Amrit. This was the first time he had killed anyone in his life. Although he had killed animals for food, he had never killed another human being.
There was involuntary retching that escaped through his throat. Personally, he felt no guilt or regret, there was no negative emotion inside his consciousness but his body was not in the same state. After transmigrating into this world, the first thing he felt was inhumane pain, threatening to rip his very being to the shreds. After that, the first memories were of the assassins trying to kill him and they had succeeded.
After that he got the inheritance of the Asura, although he didn’t know how strong they were in the grand scheme of things, he saw some pretty impressive scenes of the universe and among the scenes, some contained the destruction of trillions of lives. Even after seeing those things, his inner consciousness valued human life and humanity. However, at this point, it became a curse rather than a boon, it wasn’t voluntary. This was why when he gave the inheritance to his parents and grandparents, he had filtered most of the sinister parts. As for why there were such sinister parts in the inheritance, it was because when you get so strong that most of the beings in the universe seem like an ant, you don’t care if your methods are morally right or wrong.
Below the throne of every king is decorated by the mountains of corpses from their opponents. Although the previous Amrit didn’t think much about the value of human life, it was due to how he had been raised. He had seen death from when he was able to understand the world. And for current or the earth Amrit, death was a sensitive topic let alone killing someone by their hands. Even though he had killed a lot of beasts in the illusion array, he didn’t flinch there because deep down he knew they were just an illusion and ferocious beasts at that.
Due to the bloodline of the Asura clan, his consciousness was not affected. Even when the hot blood fell all over him, his mind was treating it as a hot bath after work. But his body instinctively reacted. His body convulsed for a second and he retched. Although it was just for a second or two, it was deadly in the middle of the battlefield. In an instant, he felt his body out of his control. With his soul power that strong and in harmony with each other, there was no way this could have happened. Maybe it was just an instinctual reaction or maybe there was something else.
Luckily another cultivator was a bit far from Amrit otherwise the situation could have turned deadly. As Amrit was trying to control his body, the cultivator that was far away seemed to appear near him in an instant. Amrit had miscalculated this part. His body was not listening to him and there was nothing he could do at that moment. He tried his best but nothing moved his way. The cultivator appeared before him and slashed a sword at him. Although the moments took long to describe, the real-time that had lapsed between killing the cultivator and another cultivator slashing a sword at him was just 3-4 seconds.
As the sword neared him, Amrit thought he was a goner. Nothing worked, although his soul was trying its best to resist, his body didn’t listen and the qi circulation was stopped for a moment. This was the first time he felt so weak, even at the well or just after he had transmigrated although he was in dire straits he wasn’t this powerless. Just as he was about to give in to his fate, there was a clang sound. “Are you okay, young master?” a sound came from nearby.
Amrit was expecting an attack but with the voice and clang sound, he was relieved. It was the voice of someone from the clan. Amrit wanted to reply ‘I’m fine’ but couldn’t speak. Not one body part was under his control. The cultivator from the clan and the invader began fighting. The invader pushes towards Amrit and the clan cultivator tries to push him far away.
Amrit didn’t know what to do and if he stayed like this for a while there was no doubt another invader would come to claim his head. Just as he felt he was going be powerless for a while something changed inside him. Some of the information rushed into his head and he instantly knew what had happened.
