The King of Urban Mercenaries

Chapter 999: Heaven's Lion Approaches

Six helicopters, like six bright stars in the night sky, flew towards Lin Fei. After receiving Lin Fei's orders, each helicopter was equipped with five special forces soldiers. Then, the six helicopters transported the fully armed special forces soldiers to the rooftops of six buildings.

Thirty special forces soldiers began sweeping from the rooftops downwards, checking floor by floor.

Lin Fei gave them a simple task: search from the top down and suppress the enemies below the third floor without casualties to complete the mission.

Meanwhile, Lin Fei wasn't idle. He asked Wang Kai next to him, "Wang Kai, how long has it been since you had real combat?"

"It's been a few years."

Lin Fei nodded, understanding that being out of position means avoiding governance, and since he wasn't a soldier anymore, there naturally weren't any war issues. "You must be out of practice?"

Wang Kai nodded; over time, even iron rusts, let alone people. What he learned before might be a bit rusty, but it didn't mean he had forgotten.

"Alright, today let's have fun with them as brothers. I haven't had good exercise in a long time," Lin Fei said, holding an AK500 submachine gun with several hand grenades and a dagger strapped to his waist. He put on night vision goggles and he and Wang Kai advanced towards the six buildings.

Their chosen route was the hardest, close to collapsed walls, allowing them to avoid landmines and use the walls as cover.

As they reached the vicinity of the six buildings, gunfire sounded from inside. However, it quieted down shortly. Lin Fei inquired and found that an enemy was discovered in Building 5 but was swiftly killed by the firepower of five special forces soldiers.

Lin Fei ordered the five soldiers to continue searching downstairs, and if no one was found, to directly occupy Building 5.

With everything arranged, Lin Fei, with Wang Kai, reached the side of Building 6. If Lin Fei was in charge, he would have surely placed landmines on the side as it's the most visually vulnerable and easiest place to invade.

At this point, the special forces soldiers in Building 6 had reached the ground floor without encountering anyone. Lin Fei and Wang Kai exchanged glances, and Lin Fei sprinted off, moving swiftly in a straight line.

He ran to the corner of Building 6 without hitting any landmines, while Wang Kai memorized Lin Fei's steps. Though he couldn't match Lin Fei's speed, Lin Fei's devout-like sprint was so fast that even a landmine wouldn't harm him.

Wang Kai's task was to remember Lin Fei's footsteps and carefully approach him.

Inside the building, gunfire was constant. Though the mercenaries were formidable, they couldn't overpower five special forces soldiers individually, rendering them unable to focus on Lin Fei and Wang Kai.

The two smoothly infiltrated, but as Lin Fei peeked inside, a bullet instantly hit the wall beside him.

"Building 6, listen up! Sweep downstairs directly but be cautious, enemies are present in Building 6," Lin Fei ordered immediately. Subsequently, the five special forces soldiers swept downwards until reaching the ground floor.

Facing a pincer attack, a mercenary sensibly surrendered by dropping his weapon.

Lin Fei and Wang Kai exchanged smiles as Buildings 5 and 6 had been captured by Lin Fei's team, with only four buildings left where hostages must be present.

Lin Fei instructed the five soldiers near Buildings 5 and 6 to advance first, clearing floor by floor. To Lin Fei's relief, Building 4 was empty.

In the pitch-black night, with the moon hidden and wind roaring like wailing spirits through the ruined corridors, Lin Fei, Wang Kai, and ten special forces soldiers approached Building 3. The soldiers inside began advancing towards the last three floors.

Lin Fei found it odd that the third floor was also empty.

"Seems they're planning a face-to-face encounter with us."

"What's the plan? Should we continue with the first scheme?" Wang Kai asked.

Lin Fei smiled, responding, "Of course. Moreover, I quite enjoy their strategy."

For the last two buildings, Lin Fei wanted no soldier to be sacrificed. They too have parents, and dying so young would let down those who raised them for over twenty years.

Wang Kai, take a team, clear the building from the other side while I clear it from this side. You cover us. If we succeed, it'll depend on you."

The team split into two, each with ten members or so, advancing simultaneously towards Buildings 1 and 2 with pincer momentum. Lin Fei coldly commanded, "Go!"

Headed by Lin Fei, they rushed into Building 2, while Wang Kai's group stormed Building 1.

Bang! Bang! A dense burst of gunfire erupted; Lin Fei's appearance incited the mercenaries to shoot at him, but they quickly realized Lin Fei had vanished from their sight.

"How is that possible!"

Some mercenaries were bewildered, and in mere moments, their lives weren't theirs anymore. Yet, even after seizing control of all six buildings, the hostages and three remaining mercenaries were nowhere to be found.

Concerning Lin Fei, his sudden disappearance was due to accidentally falling into the sewer—someone had removed the manhole cover, leading him to vanish.

Upon falling into the sewer, Lin Fei felt a softness beneath. Looking down, his expression turned grave; he stood on a pile of over a dozen corpses.

Their wounds were still fresh, indicating recent deaths, and the sewer led to an unknown, dark abyss, akin to a road to Hell.

Lin Fei climbed out of the sewer, ordering Wang Kai to investigate where the sewer leads, ensuring their team reached its end. It's unknown if the remaining three mercenaries had escaped.

Lin Fei himself proceeded down the dark sewer, glad to have night vision goggles for the journey.

But after not getting far, suddenly a silhouette lunged at him with a two-foot long dagger aimed at Lin Fei aggressively.

Lin Fei didn't need to see to know it was one of the mercenaries eliminated by Poison Scorpion, attacking with fierce haste, yet Lin Fei considered their attack speed too slow.
