Chapter 30: Chapter 30: Chance Encounter
Chapter 30: Chance Encounter
Time passed slowly, and it had been nearly a month since Diidara became a genin.
In this month, they completed about twenty D-rank missions, such as catching cats, weeding, finding people, and helping to build houses. They had experienced quite a lot.
Moreover, they understood the true meaning of these D-rank missions: to allow these still inexperienced young ninjas to experience various aspects of life, so that these experiences could lay a foundation for their future.
Although the Transformation Technique was a very basic ninjutsu, it had a crucial role in gathering information and disguising one's identity when it was inconvenient to reveal it.
After all, how could you transform into a farmer if you had never even seen one? Only by experiencing these things firsthand could they better prepare for their future ninja careers.
Yutou was also satisfied; after so many missions, the three of them had grown significantly. This growth wasn't about combat strength; it was about experience and knowledge. If one were to put it plainly, this kind of growth was equally important.
With increased experience and broader insight, their wisdom surely had also reached an important enhancement. Now, it was time for them to witness the harsh realities of the ninja world and their first taste of blood.
"Thinking back over the past few days, you should have experienced most of the D-rank missions by now!" Yutou said. "So, it's time to level up a bit."
After saying that, Yutou led the way to the mission hall. The three exchanged surprised glances and hurried to follow him.
"Teacher, what kind of mission are we taking this time?" Kurotsuchi asked, showing a bit of respect; outside, she wouldn't refer to Yutou as "Dad." It would only revert back after the task was done.
Even so, Yutou tolerated this quite well, so it was usually Kurotsuchi who asked such questions. If it were the other two, they would likely get scolded.
This time, however, Yutou didn't provide a clear answer. He just responded vaguely, "Find a task suitable for you!"
Upon arriving at the mission hall, Yutou went inside to take on a mission while Diidara and the other two waited outside.
Akatsuchi looked at Kurotsuchi's lovely face and wanted to say something, but he didn't know what to say. Just as he was about to casually bring up a topic, Diidara had already begun chatting with Kurotsuchi.
Akatsuchi silently lowered his head, disappointment written all over his face.
Noticing her teammate's unusual demeanor, Kurotsuchi asked with concern, "What's wrong? Akatsuchi, are you feeling unwell?"
Akatsuchi immediately looked up, blushing as he stammered, "Uhm… I'm fine. I just thought that after this mission, we would probably have to do those low-level tasks again! That's why I felt a bit down!"
"Oh, I see!" Kurotsuchi glanced at Akatsuchi suspiciously but accepted his explanation. "It should be that while we do low-level tasks, there will be some high-level tasks mixed in, right? Diidara, what do you think?"
"Yeah, it should be like that!" Diidara replied. He silently noted Akatsuchi's strange behavior and planned to help him when there was time. "After all, no matter how many C-rank missions there are, it's impossible to do them every day. If there were that many genin, and each took on a C-rank task, then D-rank tasks would go unattended!"
"Yeah, you make a good point, senior!" Kurotsuchi nodded in agreement, and Akatsuchi helplessly had to admit, "Indeed, what Diidara said makes sense."
"Hey, what are you three talking about?" a voice came from behind them.
Turning around, they indeed saw Huo Guang, Mo Chou, and Da Shi appear, along with a middle-aged uncle who looked regretfully at Diidara.
This made Diidara feel a bit embarrassed. Why was this uncle looking at him like that? He couldn't possibly have some peculiar fetish, could he? No, he needed to keep Kurotsuchi away from him.
Thinking this, Diidara subtly pulled Kurotsuchi behind him, but his action was noticed by the uncle.
This guy can't be thinking I have some weird preference, right? The uncle was taken aback yet amused.
Mo Chou, seeing his rival after a month, was quite happy. He directly said to Diidara, "A month has passed; your strength hasn't decreased, has it? I tell you, I've gotten much stronger."
Diidara sneered, "If you want to see how much my strength has increased, just try me! Even if my strength hasn't improved, defeating you is still easy!"
"Humph! Just talk. After we finish our mission, let's have a match!" Mo Chou refused to back down.
"Let's do it; who's afraid of who?" Diidara naturally wouldn't concede.
"Alright, you two, stop arguing. Mo Chou, behave yourself. I'm going in to take the mission," the middle-aged uncle reminded them before entering the mission hall.
The six gathered together to chat.
"Mo Chou, what's your guiding teacher's name? He seems to have a strong sense of responsibility!" Akatsuchi, who had good social skills, was the first to break the silence.
"Hmph, that guy is pretty impressive," Mo Chou infrequently praised someone who usually had a sharp tongue. "His name is Iwaishikan, a jōnin skilled in taijutsu and fire release ninjutsu."
"Speaking of which, Diidara, he wanted to be your teacher before!" Huo Guang added. "Although our teacher is strong, he still pales in comparison to the Tsuchikage."
This piqued Kurotsuchi's interest, and she immediately asked, "Really? Tell me all about it! Hurry up!"
Huo Guang couldn't resist Kurotsuchi's plea and relayed the whole story.
It turned out that the referee who supervised Diidara's exam was a friend of Iwaishikan's and had high hopes for Diidara, strongly recommending him to Iwaishikan. When Iwaishikan reviewed Diidara's information, he resolutely chose him.
This led to a tug-of-war between Iwaishikan and several other jōnin. Finally, one jōnin stated that the Tsuchikage, Oonoki, had probably already earmarked Diidara as his disciple, which ended the disputes.
They concluded that since the Tsuchikage was busy with official duties, there would definitely be a leading jōnin overseeing the team; it wouldn't be the Tsuchikage himself. Eventually, everyone else gave up, but Iwaishikan insisted that such a promising candidate should be given a chance to teach.
However, when the final roster came out, Iwaishikan had to extinguish his ambitions because he couldn't compete with Yutou...
In this way, Diidara felt relieved. If a jōnin had any ill intentions, he would definitely be unable to resist. Since that was the case, the only way forward was to continue getting stronger.
