The Guardian's Rise

Chapter 3: Red Viper's Hideout

Logan timed his movements, his eyes monitoring the train's speed, and the surroundings blurring in his vision. One wrong move, and he could be turned into meat paste.

Logan had witnessed such before, so he dared not move abruptly. Not many knew about this when they first tried this fun way of traveling, and they met a gruesome end after getting too excited.

The train lived up to its name, traveling precisely at the speed of sound; even when it took turns, it never slowed.

With the help of Superpowers, the creation of cutting-edge technological gadgets was made possible. Hovercrafts, Holographic Projections, Cybernetics Enhancements, Advanced AI, Nanotechnology… all these weren't things of fiction anymore, they were more than real.

However, despite the prevalence of advanced technologies, the SOS Bullet Nose train retained the old fashioned method of railway travel, tracks.

The train slowed, and Logan's gravitational energy activated at full force, his body beginning to lose weight quickly. He slid across the train top, his body still laying flat on it using his gravitational energy.

His control over his gravitational energy was superb, but the only thing was that he couldn't output much energy at once. If he did, his body would be strained and receive grave injuries.

Logan made up for that weakness with adept control, manipulating his Superpower so well, he could do something this complex.

He was using a bit of his gravitational energy on his body, making the gravity around him the reverse. Although it wasn't strong enough to make him fly or levitate, he was still able to lighten his weight significantly.

Then with more gravitational energy pushing downwards, he made sure he was glued to the spot atop the train.

The train slowed some more, an opening revealing itself. Without further ado, he manipulated his energy to shift his body towards that direction and slipped off the top, flipping through the air and landing with a roll.

A few seconds after he landed, someone dropped beside him, their feets sliding on a trail of ice forming from their hands.

"Nice trick you did there boy," the person said as they passed.

Logan replied with a nod and turned around, walking away.

He left the subway unhurriedly, his footsteps quiet as he slunk through the bright night.

The massive structures of Starweave City sprawled before Logan. Towering skyscrapers made of glass, steel and concrete pierced the sky, the bright lights at their tops hiding in the clouds.

Neon and holographic advertisements danced across building surfaces, casting a kaleidoscope of colors across the bustling streets.

The streets themselves were filled with thousands of heads, people surging through and going about their daily activities.

Flying hovercrafts zipped by, their soft humming sounds filling the air. Pedestrians of various occupations and colors hurried along the sidewalk, passing by several stores and shops.

The aroma of street food filled the air, making heads turn to the shops as they passed, with some unable to resist the call of the dishes.

In the far distance, a skyscraper built from steel plates stood imposingly, picturing the ideal, stoic image of the heroes it represented. That building was the Hero Association Headquarters. The place where the heroes gathered for various purposes.

"Someday," Logan muttered, turning around and walking away.

D Rank heroes and below weren't allowed entry into the Hero Association building, unless they had achieved something significant.

This wasn't done to shun them, but was a way of making them prove their worth to the society.

If they could do something that helped keep the city safer and become a better place, then they were allowed into the Hero Association building to take on missions and further boost their popularity, which in turn brought more money.

That was what most heroes wanted in the first place, but Logan was different.

One can only be called a hero if they understood the responsibility that came with their power.

This was something he believed in and would always stand by.

He might be weak, but he had probably taken out more bad guys and small-time villains than most C-Rank heroes.

Thise who were priviledged to have C-Rank Superpowers and above, slacked off most of the time after making a name for themselves. They turned to acting, modelling, advertising for companies and whatnot.

Logan scoffed, feeling disgusted all of a sudden. He pushed the distracting thoughts out of his mind and focused ahead.

He flipped his watch, and the holographic image of the Red Viper's hideout came up. His brows furrowed as he noticed the entry points again.

"This building looks familiar," he muttered, searching through his memories and trying to recollect where he had seen it.

He raised an eyebrow, his gaze moving over to a building a few blocks from him.

"Right beside the school?" He voiced out his shock quietly.

Logan closed the hologram and looked around, before he placed a foot on the wall of the building beside him.

'I might not be able to fly, yet, but at least I can do this,' Logan comforted himself as he began to walk up the wall like it was the ground.

He controlled gravity, and he had shifted the gravity waves around him, making it possible for him to walk vertically.

To make things faster, he ran up and landed on the roof, before beginning to sprint, jumping from one rooftop to another.

His physical abilities had been honed over the years with rigorous training. His father had made him run and lift weights under intense gravitational waves, so him running with his weight reduced was akin to him running on air.

He reached the edged of a building and jumped, then switched the gravitational waves, causing the building side to become the ground, and he landed on it, running down at his full speed.

Logan leaped lightly after reaching a broken window, landing inside softly. There, he saw a man with a red, snake-like mask, and using the element of surprise, he drove his fist upwards, speeding up his fist with his Superpower and knocking the man out.
