Chapter 141 Frontline
Cohen Kingdom – Prince's Territory.
Gray Mountain Outpost.
This is a border military camp facing the region leading to the Gray Mountain Range.
"It's really nice to still be alive here." A soldier leaned against the watchtower, resting on his long spear as he spoke.
Another soldier adjusted his steel helmet.
"Sigh, who knows how much longer we can stay here. Next time there's a troop deployment, we might not escape."
Compared to the soldier's worried look, another soldier revealed a smile, albeit a somewhat forced one.
"What can we do? We just live one day at a time."
"Our squad originally had 23 people, and now there are only 8 of us left. The Captain and the others haven't returned since the beginning.
What on earth is attacking us?" Another young-looking soldier sitting by the roadside couldn't help but ask.
"I don't know. I heard it's some kind of monster. The Safro Kingdom has already completely fallen. You saw those refugees too."
Hearing this, another soldier couldn't help but complain: "Who could understand that? Monsters that eat people, bats bigger than humans that can fly, and people who can control blood."
Even though he said he didn't believe it, his face showed a hint of fear, revealing that he had long understood.
If not for these monsters, Gray Rock Fortress wouldn't need such a large force to defend.
With comrades being summoned one by one without returning, it already explained the situation.
Every time a messenger soldier came, they were always injured, and it was never the same person.
When asked about the situation of the previous recruits, the answer was always the same - dead.
The pressure on the reserve soldiers is already considerable, let alone the state of the front lines.
Just then, a soldier frowned, lying on the ground listening to the surface.
"There's a sound... Hoofbeats?"
The sound he heard was peculiar.
With his actions, the other soldiers also became aware.
Looking ahead.
That's the road leading to the Gray Mountain Range.
"Weapons made by the Dwarves being transported over?"
Hearing this, another soldier slapped the back of his head: "Fool, when was the last time the Dwarves rushed over like this? Besides, we didn't receive any message, the Dwarf Prophet would notify us first."
Before they could get an answer, they saw dust rising in the distance.
Soon they saw the approaching group from the other side.
"Dwarven forces?"
The soldiers looked on from afar.
Blake's troops, after all, consisted mostly of Dwarves and Half-Elves.
Except for a few humans, they looked no different from a Dwarven army.
When this troop arrived in front of them, the temporary Soldier Captain came out.
"Gentlemen, who are you? We haven't received any notification of a delivery."
The Captain looked on.
His gaze mainly fell on Blake and his companions, as humans within a Dwarven troop were quite rare, especially with Blake's unique mounts.
For the people of Cohen Kingdom, Land Birds were also a rare sight, let alone someone in armor riding one.
"We are Night Watchers, with important information to deliver to the Gray Mountain Fortress."
"Night Watchers?" the Soldier Captain frowned, having never heard of such a name.
Getai rode out on a War Sheep: "Hey! Don't you recognize me? I even drank with you."
"Drank with me?" The Soldier Captain looked at Getai, scrutinizing him for a while before suddenly slapping his forehead.
"Ah, it's you, I remember you're called... Ge..." he couldn't recall immediately.
"Getai."
"Yes, yes, that's the name. So what's your purpose here, fully armed?" the Soldier Captain frowned and asked again.
"Message delivery. We intercepted some intelligence from the Blood Race about an attack against you.
Hence, we need to hurry to the fortress, convey the information, and offer some support."
Hearing the Dwarf's words, the Soldier Captain nodded promptly.
"If that's the case, hurry on your way."
It wasn't that he lacked vigilance, but the Dwarves had long maintained a friendly exchange with Cohen Kingdom for hundreds of years.
Since the kingdom's founding, it had been peaceful development.
So these soldiers didn't think there was any problem.
Upon granting passage, Blake and the others sped up.
Under Eric's lead, they quickly proceeded towards the road to Gray Mountain Fortress.
"So many refugees." Bobo, riding a Land Bird, looked at the surrounding refugees and couldn't help but remark.
They were passing through a city, seeing numerous refugee camps on the outskirts.
Blake gazed at these refugees, his expression slightly somber.
"These refugees were originally citizens of the Safro Kingdom, unfortunately betrayed by their own kingdom by those damn monsters."
"Let's speed up, we're in a hurry now." Getai, riding a War Sheep, said.
They travelled swiftly, soon reaching the area near Gray Rock Fortress, which had numerous military camps and stockpiles of supplies.
A checkpoint lay ahead.
