The Forsaken's Revenge

Chapter 400: Don't you recognize me?

The young girl smiled as she introduced herself.

Jiang Wanning?!

An image of a beautiful face surfaced in Chen Zheng's mind—his bride from when he had just married.

Back then, Chen Zheng and the Jiang Family's second daughter, Jiang Wanning, were considered a perfect match. Their love could be described as a whirlwind romance, but it ultimately ended in failure.

"Wanning?" Chen Zheng murmured, lost in thought.

"What? Don't you recognize me anymore?" Jiang Wanning's lips curved into a seductive arc.

Chen Zheng gazed at the woman before him, his wife whom he had loved for three years. He felt a complex mix of emotions as he shook his head. "I thought you were someone else. It turns out to be Miss Jiang!"

"Oh?" Jiang Wanning arched an eyebrow, then reached out to pat his shoulder and chuckled. "If that's the case, just call me Wanning. We're nothing to each other anymore."

"We... are nothing to each other anymore?" Chen Zheng whispered, a trace of bitterness on his face.

Was there truly no possibility left between them?

Jiang Wanning nodded, her smile growing even more brilliant. She turned and walked away, her high heels clicking on the floor, leaving Chen Zheng with nothing but her cold, retreating back.

Gazing at her diminishing figure, Chen Zheng felt an inexplicable sense of desolation.

The woman he had once loved so deeply, the one he had cherished and held in the palm of his hand, the one he had treasured like a precious jewel… was now treating him like a complete stranger. Had he really thought she had forgotten him? That their relationship had been mended? He never expected things would still be like this. He was just a footnote in her life, an insignificant passerby she could easily do without.

Chen Zheng sat on the ground, staring blankly ahead.

Suddenly, an image flashed through his mind!

A girl in a white veil, holding a basket of flowers, wearing a crown, holding a microphone, and smiling like an angel!

Chen Zheng's heart quivered. It was that little girl—the one who had saved him twice! Could it be… her soul had transmigrated here? Impossible! She was just a little girl; how could she transmigrate?! But… she looked exactly like that little girl, her build was even identical! What on earth is going on…

Confusion swirled in Chen Zheng's mind as another scene appeared before him!

"Mommy, where are you going?"

It was the little girl's voice. Immediately after, a woman in a red qipao lifted the child and whispered something in her ear.

WHAT!!!

Chen Zheng's eyes widened in disbelief.

How could this be possible?! How could another woman's soul be inhabiting the little girl's body?!

"Mr. Chen, Mr. Chen!"

A voice called out, interrupting Chen Zheng's thoughts.

Chen Zheng turned to see a man in his forties approaching with a wide smile. "Are you Mr. Chen?"

Chen Zheng stood up and nodded with a smile. "Yes, my surname is Chen. And you are…?"

"My surname is Zhao," the man beamed. "Mr. Chen, our company has specially arranged for someone to receive you during your visit to Jiang City. I hope to extend our hospitality and treat you to a simple meal."

"Thank you, Director Zhao. I appreciate the gesture." Chen Zheng nodded, then added, "Director Zhao, could you give me a tour of your company?"

"Haha! Of course! This way, Mr. Chen!" Director Zhao laughed heartily, making an inviting gesture.

Chen Zheng followed Director Zhao into the office.

This office was more than three times larger than the previous one, luxuriously decorated, and equipped with all sorts of modern equipment.

Pointing at several paintings and calligraphies on the wall, Director Zhao chuckled, "Mr. Chen, look. These are all part of our company's collection. Each one could fetch an astronomical price at auction, and they're all limited editions!"

"You flatter me, Director Zhao," Chen Zheng replied modestly.

"Hehe!" Director Zhao laughed, then pointed to a desk. "Mr. Chen, that is my office over there, and this one here is for my personal assistant. Which would you prefer?"

"I like both."

"Then… I'll take you to see my office."

"Thank you very much, Director Zhao."

"You're too kind!"

Director Zhao led Chen Zheng into the office next door.

Upon entering, Chen Zheng was stunned. The office was immense, easily half again as large as the main area outside, fully furnished with office equipment, and even had a sofa and armchairs!

Director Zhao introduced Chen Zheng to his secretary, saying with a smile, "Secretary Li, Mr. Chen will be your direct supervisor from now on. You'll be responsible for his office affairs."

"Rest assured, Director Zhao! I'll be sure to get it done!" Secretary Li beamed and bowed to Chen Zheng. "Director Chen, please wait a moment. I'll get you acquainted with the work environment right away!"

"Then I'll leave him in your capable hands."

Director Zhao left the office.

Secretary Li began to familiarize Chen Zheng with the work environment. In less than half an hour, she had him completely oriented and was already reporting to him about ongoing work issues.

Chen Zheng didn't remain idle, either. He spent time in the office reading and learning, occasionally discussing work matters with Secretary Li.

The knowledge in this world was incredibly rich. It wasn't just broad in scope; the level of technology was extremely high, far surpassing even that of the Cultivation World. Secretary Li told Chen Zheng about recent events in Jiang City. After hearing her out, his mind reeled for a long time! This world was nothing like he had imagined! The Cultivation World was formidable, yes, but it was still just one world. This world was different—it possessed infinite resources! But here, resources didn't mean money or power. They were the products of technology, like elevators! Like intelligent robots! Like all kinds of super-soldiers! This world had countless technologies, while the Cultivation World, in comparison, was technologically primitive!

"Director Chen, what are you thinking about?" Secretary Li asked curiously, seeing him lost in thought.

Chen Zheng snapped out of his reverie and smiled. "Secretary Li, you're very efficient. I'm quite satisfied."

"Hehe! To be able to help you, Director Chen, is an honor for me, Li Xiaomei!" she said with a wide grin.

"Alright, you can head home for the day."

"Yes!" Li Xiaomei said cheerfully. "Goodbye, Mr. Chen!"

"Goodbye!"

「In Jiang City, at the Chen Family mansion.」

A man in a black suit stood respectfully in the courtyard. "Master," he reported respectfully, "Chen Zheng has arrived in Jiang City and is on his way home."

An old but authoritative voice replied, "Mm. Tell him to come to my study at seven o'clock sharp tonight. I have something to say to him!"

"Yes, Master!"

The man replied before turning and quickly disappearing from the courtyard.

「Meanwhile, in a mansion somewhere in Jiang City.」

A man in his fifties lay on a wicker chair, squinting at the sky with a strange smile on his face. "After so long," he murmured, "you've finally arrived."

「At seven o'clock sharp in the evening. The Chen Family mansion.」

BANG!

Chen Zheng pushed open the door and walked into the study.

The study was brightly lit, but with the curtains drawn tight, it felt like a sealed chamber.

"Dad!"
