Chapter 230: If I die, you're coming with me!
"Is… is… is that really our leader? Is that really Ava fighting?" one of the pincer gang members stuttered.
His lips trembled as shock spread across his face while he stared at the chaos unfolding ahead.
One thing about this town was that even though Ava was a gang leader, she never terrorised the people.
She collected only reasonable tax money, nothing outrageous or cruel.
She also ran a business that brought her steady income, so whatever she collected from the town barely mattered to her. That alone made her respected, admired and even loved.
When Clint murdered her younger brother, the entire town had mourned beside her.
They blamed themselves for being powerless, for not being able to help her or protect him. And now, seeing her transformed into something part-human and part-dragon, battling Clint who himself looked like a true demon, left everyone speechless.
Everyone except Max.
He stood there grinning until his cheeks hurt, arms folded across his chest, tossing out comments every few seconds with the excitement of someone watching their favourite show.
"Imagine him making noise about me," Max laughed as the clash of acidic spit and lightning exploded mid-air. The two attacks wiped each other out, leaving Ava and Clint staring at one another through sizzling steam.
"You are struggling with someone weaker than me. My own subordinate is pushing you to your breaking point," Max said with a mocking smile.
"Imagine fighting me at full power. How will you survive? Ridiculous demon."
"Shut your damn trap, you useless dragon!" Clint thundered as he shot a glare toward Max.
"Oh, oh, look at that. My little taunt actually distracted you," Max said, pointing ahead casually.
Clint snapped his head back around only to meet Ava's incoming fist.
The uppercut connected so hard that spit shot from his mouth as he staggered backward in pain.
Before he could even form a complete thought, Ava lunged forward with a burst of wing-assisted speed.
She wrapped her arms around his waist like a rugby tackle and launched herself into the sky, the wind screaming around them as she shot upward faster and faster.
Before he could say or do anything else, Ava kicked the air again with a loud bang as the duo suddenly spun around and now, they were nosediving back down at an immense rate.
"Ava! What are you doing?! You will not walk away from that!" Clint shouted, panic slipping into his voice as the ground began shrinking beneath them.
"I do not care, as long as I take you out!" Ava roared as her grip tightened.
Her wings beat violently, the feathers crackling faintly with static as electricity hummed around her arms.
"Let me go!" Clint yelled and hammered his fists into her back, each hit thudding through her scales. But it was too late.
KA-BANG!
A deafening boom erupted as she drove him into the ground with monstrous force.
The impact shook the surrounding area, kicking dust and debris into the air while a crater ripped itself open beneath them.
Ava did not escape without injury. Her head smashed the ground too, leaving a light scratch along her cheek and forehead. It stung sharply as dust coated the wound, but she ignored it completely.
"Ack!" Clint coughed violently, spitting out flecks of saliva as he staggered back. His vision blurred for a moment.
The world swayed, trembling in his sight. He shook his head furiously until everything snapped back into focus.
The first thing he saw was Ava already in front of him.
Her fist was drawn back, claws clenched, lightning snapping around her knuckles.
The punch was coming in too fast for him to naturally react, and all he could do was widen his eyes in horror as it closed in on his skull.
With all his otherworldly speed, he swiftly ducked by the skin of his teeth as the punch tore through the air with a terrifyingly loud bang.
The shockwave rattled the nearby stones. Without missing a single beat, Clint swung his own fist from below, aiming to drill it right into her abdomen.
But as if her instincts were carved straight into her bones, the female dragon raised her leg, moving just fast enough to intercept the attack.
His punch connected with her shin in a sharp bang. The impact sent a ripple of vibration through her limb as her body skidded several inches across the ground, her heels kicking up dirt while she struggled to regain balance.
Bang.
Clint darted forward toward the stumbling female. His claws sliced toward her face with vicious precision.
She reacted out of sheer survival impulse, her hands shooting forward to block, only for the demon's other fist to rocket from below and smash directly into her abdomen.
The strike tore off several scales from her stomach as the brutal force launched her across the battlefield. Her body spun through the air like a flung spear.
'Damn it, damn it. Why am I the only one getting tossed around like a rag doll here? How strong did he become just from transforming into a full demon?' Ava wondered, her chest burning as her wings beat furiously, trying to stabilise herself.
The wind roared in her ears, each flap sending deep vibrations through her strained muscles.
"Even with the power given to you, you are still as weak as ever!" Clint thundered.
His voice echoed across the ruined ground as he suddenly appeared above her.
He swung his leg down in an axe kick, the momentum so strong the air screamed around it.
Lightning crackled around her body, dancing across her arms and shoulders like living serpents.
She crossed her hands into an X and thrust them up just in time. His kick slammed into her block with brutal force, and the air around them trembled as though the world itself shuddered.
A heartbeat later, she was sent plummeting toward the ground at insane velocity.
The impact shook the earth when she crashed down. Dirt exploded upward, rocks trembled, and a deep crack split beneath her body. Blood spilled from her lips while dust clouded her vision, making everything blur for a second.
As she tried to push herself up, a sudden shadow burst through the dust.
Clint emerged, his mouth wide open, and thick acidic goo shot toward her at point blank range.
The sizzling liquid filled the air with a sharp chemical stench, strong enough to sting the nose even from afar.
"No, Leader Ava!" one of her gang members shouted in panic, his voice cracking.
He stretched his hand forward helplessly. His heart hammered so hard it felt like it might burst from his chest.
In truth, every member of her gang shared the same fear. Their legs quivered, ready to charge toward the battlefield even if it meant getting torn apart.
"You move forward and you will just be burnt down into nothing but a bloody puddle." A cold voice slid into their ears.
Max did not raise his tone, yet it silenced the restless group instantly. "Trust your leader and her hunger for revenge. If she was truly in danger, I would have stepped in already."
The moment Max finished speaking, the sky lit up with a blinding glow as if someone had dragged a miniature sun into existence.
Clint's head jerked upward in confusion. High above him, a hundred lightning arrows hovered in the air, each one buzzing with raw destructive energy.
"If I'm going to die, you're coming with me." Ava smirked, her eyes blazing with fierce determination.
The storm of arrows shrieked downward toward the demon at terrifying speed while the acidic goo closed in on her at the same time.
