Chapter 60: All That Matters
"...."
The entire class was quiet.
They never expected to witness another suspenseful event after Draco and Jet's match earlier that day, yet here they were.
Many thought Lizbeth was being reasonable, and they even wished they were in Draco's shoes.
For most of these students, a total babe like her was out of their reach.
They could only stare at her with watery eyes, hoping she spared them a glance. But Draco actually got her to confess to him. Even in the Southern Territory, a woman confessing to a man was rare.
But this was Draco, after all.
No other student had more potential than him in the entire class. Jet Ashborne was a worthy contender, but Draco had already put him in his place already.
As such, everyone understood the situaiton and waited to hear Draco's response.
Unfortunately for them—
"Sorry, but I owe you nothing, not even my respect." Draco jerked his hand away from Lizbeth and scoffed without an ounce of regard. "I don't care if you're the strongest female here. That's only limited to this set anyway, and I have no need to keep my attention solely on this class."
—They were let down by his response.
Draco stubbornly declined the proposal, refusing to elaborate on why.
"Are you saying your eyes are on someone who is already a Dragon Hunter? Is it a senior who graduated in the last set? Or maybe… someone who didn't pass through the Academy?"
It was public knowledge that one didn't need to go through the Academy to become a Dragon Hunter. The Dragon Hunter Academy was simply a place to foster young talents so they could produce high-quality Dragon Hunters.
Most Dragon Hunters didn't even attend the Academy and simply took Registration Exams.
The benefit of the Academy was that it taught a lot of fundamentals and nurtured the students so they would excel much better than the majority of Dragon Hunters who didn't recieve such education.
Their instructors were veterans—experts in their respective fields—and they had access to a lot of resources.
In essence, all things considered, they were special.
As such, Lizbeth couldn't imagine that Draco would be interested in a Dragon Hunter that didn't leave the Academy. But the last batch graduated years ago. There were indeed amazing women among them, but would any of them really be interested in a young man like Draco?
Surely, all of them would already have potential suitors, or perhaps had already even gotten married. Who among them could Draco be referring to?
This puzzled Lizbeth greatly, and she hoped her question would force him to give her a hint.
Unfortunately, she was disappointed yet again.
"None of your business." Draco walked away. "Just give up and never bring this up again. I have no plans of engaging in romance during my stay in this Academy, so don't hold any expectations in your heart."
Lizbeth frown intensified.
"I recognize you as a comrade, and I truly appreciate your strength. We can be allies, but… I can't promise you anything more."
The two stared at each other for a while, before Lizbeth finally sighed and nodded.
"I understand. I'll back off, then…"
"Thank you."
"Don't thank me, Draco." Lizbeth laughed a little. "After all, I plan to make you regret your choice today."
A slight shiver coursed through his body after hearing that.
'This girl…' Draco couldn't help but smile at Lizbeth, who was now grinning widely at him.
He could easily tell what was going on in her mind.
'She plans to become the strongest student here. That way, I won't have any choice but to recognize her and even propose to her. At that point, she'd probably reject me, or give me a hard time until I prove my worth.'
'I'm sorry, Lizbeth, but things won't go as you intend…' Draco shook his head in mild amusement. 'After all, I don't plan to ever become weaker than anyone here.'
He already had the System and his Legendary Dragon Tamer Class. If he lost to these ordinary humans, wouldn't that be too pathetic of him? Draco was already obsessed with strength to the point of being the most exceptional among his peers, even before his encounter with the System.
How could he possibly lose now that he had its help?
These thoughts coursed through his mind as he left the classroom and took a walk around campus for a while.
He checked out the training facilities and observed the eerie, yet strangely serene atmosphere that the academy grounds offered him. Draco knew fully well that these would be the most peaceful days he would experience in his lifetime.
After all, once he graduated from the Academy… the true work as a Dragon Hunter would begin.
'Right now, I just have to complete my Quests and graduate from this Academy in flying colors.'
The most difficult part about his life here was hiding his Dragon Tamer status, especially when it came to hunting innocent Dragons or killing Dragons who held no ill will towards him. Draco still hadn't figured out how he was going to get around such a hurdle, but he constantly thought about it.
He finally arrived in his dorm room, and after a quick shower and some food, he felt refreshed.
"What a day…" He whispered under his breath. "We only had two classes, yet they spanned an entire day. I already knew we wouldn't be taking too many courses, but it seems each class is very comprehensive and long."
Draco had no complaints.
He already knew these were important classes he needed for his growth.
'Even though I'm stronger than all the students here, and probably even more powerful than the average Dragon Hunter, I'm lacking in fundamentals and experience. That's why going to classes and leveraging on the teachings of these veterans is very important for me.'
That was his focus: not on Lizbeth and her marriage proposal.
'Even though I told her I like someone else, it was mostly an excuse…' Draco indeed had feelings for Zara, but he already knew he couldn't pursue anything with her.
'I won't be like my father and leave my wife a widow.'
In fact, if not for his mother's desire for a grandchild, he would prefer not to get married at all.
But—
'I am open to having a mate as long as I become strong enough to ensure my safety and the safety of the woman who will bear my children.'
Until then, he could only dispose of the idea and focus on increasing his strength.
That was all that mattered to him.
