The bodyguards following behind wouldn't just leave like that; someone had already gone to get the car. They too saw what was happening and immediately rushed over. However, given the distance, they could not reach Yu Xiaodi's side in time.

On the other hand, Yu Xiaodi herself hadn't sensed anything. To her, cars appearing fast was normal. When she noticed Li Yan's gaze fixed behind her, she quickly turned around, instantly petrified. Although she had played the prank of driving a car straight at someone only to stop just in front of them, it was the first time someone else had come speeding towards her like this.

As she watched the taxi coming straight at her feet, she felt as if her body was detached from the ground and then spun in the air. Her mind went blank.

Did I get hit and flung away?

Am I going to die?

What a loss!

If I'd known I would die in an accident one day, I might as well have lived to the fullest.

In that moment, countless thoughts flashed through Yu Xiaodi's mind. It wasn't because she was thick-skinned, but because she genuinely feared she was about to die!

Because she often drove fast, she had experienced the state of lacking pain, hearing, or awareness. That usually happened when she drove at insane speeds and became numb from over-stimulation, leaving her mind blank. Now, she didn't feel pain, but felt her body lift, spinning through the sky; it shouldn't feel like this from a crash, the only explanation was that it was too severe, nearing death!

Of course, being severely injured to the point of brain or physical disability would be worse than dying for her. So, in that moment, her mind was filled with thoughts of impending death.

That moment felt so short, as if it passed in an instant, yet it also seemed so long, long enough to fill her mind with so many thoughts. When Yu Xiaodi regained consciousness, she found she wasn't dead, still standing on the hotel entrance's plaza steps. The bloody scene of her body splattered across the street hadn't occurred. Although she seemed to hear the sound of a crash, she didn't see the car that had just charged at her.

Was it all just a hallucination?

How could I experience such a severe hallucination?

...

Li Yan realized the taxi's brakes had failed, and the driver was too panicked to control it; he was already prepared to dodge. If it were just him, that would be easy, but now he couldn't just watch Yu Xiaodi get shattered in front of him, could he?

The hotel entrance had a plaza elevated over a meter higher than the sidewalk. They had just come out of the hotel, descending the steps from one of the pedestrian exits, only a few meters from there. But retreating back up those steps to the plaza would mean facing the taxi's collision, which Yu Xiaodi, frozen in fear, certainly couldn't manage. Running to the other side might result in being hit by the taxi's inertia as it mounted the sidewalk.

Jumping directly from behind up to the plaza at the hotel entrance involved surmounting over a meter of height difference and a further over meter high railing. It would be more feasible to run the other way for a slim chance of survival than making Yu Xiaodi do that.

With no time to overthink the situation, noticing the irregularity, Li Yan had already reached out to block Yu Xiaodi's body, turning with her and jumping up to grab onto the railing above, flipping them both over and retreating a few steps after reaching the top.

A small difference in height on the sidewalk allowed the taxi to charge up, but this over a meter height difference rendered it helpless. Hearing the crash, from their angle, they couldn't clearly see the situation below, unsure if the unlucky driver was dead or alive.

Seeing Yu Xiaodi remain dazed and unresponsive, Li Yan pinched her cheek: "Yu Xiaodi, you aren't scared silly, are you?"

Upon hearing his voice, Yu Xiaodi turned back blankly, looked at Li Yan and curiously asked, "Did I just hallucinate? It seemed like a car almost hit me..."

Li Yan couldn't help but laugh, she was really scared silly.

"Hey? Why are you holding me? Do you want to take advantage of me?" Realizing she was tightly held with her whole body against him, Yu Xiaodi quickly exclaimed. However, her voice wasn't loud, as she inexplicably recalled the scene in her near-death hallucination earlier.

With a slight release of his grip, Yu Xiaodi's body immediately went limp. "Hmph! Scared silly, legs gone weak, if I don't hold you, you'd fall to the ground!"

By then, the bodyguards had already rushed over.

"Miss Yu, are you okay?"

"Brother, nice skills, thank you for saving Miss Yu."

The bodyguard fetching the car drove up after seeing the accident, urgently pulling over.

"Let's leave here first!" One of the bodyguards insisted, arranging for Li Yan to help Yu Xiaodi into the car. They worried it was premeditated; if not, just a normal accident, then it's best the miss is unharmed. Safety first, now.

After a brief pause, Yu Xiaodi came to her senses, her memories aligning, plus the bodyguards' words made her realize it wasn't a hallucination, she almost got hit by a car, and she was safe now because Li Yan saved her!

Assisting her into the car, Li Yan intended to leave then, but with so many attracted spectators, he might get stopped if he tried, so he got in the car too, planning to leave first and deal with it later.

Two bodyguards sat in the front, followed by another car with more bodyguards, immediately driving out of the hotel.

Seeing Li Yan had let her go, but still resting weakly against him, Yu Xiaodi was a bit embarrassed, her face flushing as she softly said, "Thank you."

"Just in passing. Even if it were a dog about to be hit in front of me, I'd save it if I could," Li Yan replied casually, his gaze outside the window, but his peripheral vision focused on the bodyguard in front. The bodyguard in the passenger seat had been observing him through the rearview mirror, not with gratitude, but with suspicion!

"Are you calling me a dog?" Yu Xiaodi frowned.

"Be careful next time!" Li Yan subtly warned, before saying to the front, "Please let me out at the next intersection!"

"Sir, you saved our miss, our boss would personally thank you. Please come back with us!" The driving bodyguard didn't stop, and another chimed in.

Li Yan understood why as a bodyguard they'd be suspicious; it was too coincidental, and his skills weren't ordinary. Actually, he preferred not to reveal his skills unless it was life or death. Hoping to keep things calm, he planned to get off early, avoid future encounters with Yu Xiaodi, and let it go, but the bodyguard's attitude was tough.

Li Yan smirked coldly, "So what? Suspicious of me? Forcing me to see your boss and claim credit?"

The bodyguard remained silent, implicitly agreeing, but couldn't be too direct with the miss there.

The driving bodyguard mediated, "You misunderstood, our boss is very kind. Knowing this happened, he'd definitely want to thank you. If we don't invite you back, he'd scold us."

"Him scolding you isn't my problem."

"..."

"Him wanting to thank me isn't my problem either."

"..."

Seeing Li Yan's displeasure, Yu Xiaodi quickly spoke up, "Alright, stop the car! He didn't save me for my dad's thanks, let him off!"

Reluctantly, the bodyguards had to pull over as she insisted.

Li Yan got out without saying goodbye to Yu Xiaodi.

Watching him blend into the night's street, Yu Xiaodi was momentarily lost, feeling exhausted, not expecting her revenge plan today to end like this.

"Let's go..."
