In the hotel room, after Li Yan helped her unlock the handcuffs in his own way, Yu Xiaodi, now free, wouldn't let him leave first. She said the people she called were still waiting outside, and if they saw Li Yan coming out first, they'd definitely confront him. Since they've already agreed to let bygones be bygones and not seek revenge, it wouldn't be good for anyone to get hurt again.
Li Yan didn't take her helpers seriously, but unlike last night's roadside brawl, getting into a fight in a big hotel wouldn't look good, so he agreed to leave with her and urged her to pack up quickly.
Thinking about Yu Xiaodi having called Zhang Yurong before, although he didn't know whether she would be worried about him, he still felt it necessary to clarify.
When the call was quickly answered, Zhang Yurong, though as cold as usual, had a hint of urgency in her tone, indicating she was indeed worried about this matter. This made Li Yan feel relieved, though he wondered if she harbored any other suspicions as he explained it was a misunderstanding.
Unexpectedly, Yu Xiaodi, who had already packed the DV, handcuffs, and so on, suddenly came over to his side, leaning close to the phone, speaking in an extremely flirtatious and coquettish tone, "Yan-gege… you were amazing just now! I really like it, really enjoyed it, I'm so HAPPY…"
Seeing her approach, Li Yan frowned whilst talking, never expecting her to be so fearless. That sultry "Yan-gege" sent chills down his spine and goosebumps all over, almost dropping the phone, nearly wanting to slap her. But he couldn't stop her in time and let her continue with even more alluring words.
The ambiguous misunderstanding had already formed, and Zhang Yurong angrily hung up on the other end. Li Yan put away his phone and coldly watched Yu Xiaodi take a few steps back.
"Hey… I did it for your benefit, showing that you're formidable, so your boss will continue to keep you employed… I sacrificed myself for your benefit!" Yu Xiaodi, having been on a playful spree earlier, now started feeling scared under his gaze.
Seeing him still not speaking, Yu Xiaodi, being stared at in discomfort, gripped a frying pan a little tighter, knowing it's useless but giving her some courage.
"Alright! Alright! If you want to take revenge, do whatever you want!" Yu Xiaodi closed her eyes, looking like a martyr going to her death. "I'm still in junior high; if you aren't afraid of a criminal charge, then go ahead!"
"Junior my ass! You're at least in your freshman year!" Li Yan dismissed her, turning to walk outside.
Yu Xiaodi immediately opened her eyes and followed, "Huh? How did you know I'm a freshman?"
Li Yan glanced at her, "Do tenth and eleventh graders have that much time on their hands?"
"Pfft!" Yu Xiaodi's face turned warm, and the place she was bitten earlier felt peculiar again. "Pervert! Can you speak less crudely?"
Li Yan said nothing further, opened the door, and walked out. Yu Xiaodi followed him out, carrying a bag and still holding a frying pan, making for an odd sight that drew lots of attention in the hotel corridor.
Yu Xiaodi was mortified with anger, secretly cursing Li Yan, blaming him for chatting with her. She quickly lowered her head, shoved the frying pan into her bag, and quickened her pace to keep up with Li Yan.
Li Yan noticed that besides the hotel staff and a few guests outside, there were also a few men watching them. At a glance, he could tell that although these men wore suits, their builds were not ordinary, definitely strong and agile, likely ex-military or professional bodyguards.
He looked puzzled at Yu Xiaodi, recalling her mention of bringing some strong men to the hotel. He thought they were like the young men he encountered last night or hired thugs, not expecting them to be professionals. It seemed this Yu Xiaodi came from a well-off family!
In today's Yun Country, owning a Mercedes, BMW, Ferrari, or Porsche is nothing special. But hiring personal bodyguards is far less common than luxury cars.
On one hand is the country's strict control over firearms; on another is the societal emphasis on harmony and relationships where networking and wealth are often complementary. People of certain wealth try to manage everything within their primary sphere of activity. Then there's the matter of habit; the rich in the country tend to be relatively low-key. While today's society values having a home and car, many with luxury cars and houses may not be very rich, enjoying and showing status through loans and mortgages. But hiring bodyguards, even if driving a Santana, would make people think you're well off, marking you as ostentatious and arrogant. Typically, only the wealthy who've faced threats or have dealings in certain areas, or those who've gained from shady paths, would hire bodyguards.
Seeing Li Yan looking over, Yu Xiaodi worried they might actually start a fight in the corridor, hurriedly stepping forward, handing her bag to one of the men, and quietly telling them everything's fine, asking them to go back.
Li Yan ignored her and went to wait for the elevator. But when the elevator arrived, after he entered, Yu Xiaodi quickly ran over, followed by her bodyguards who also entered. Although they weren't looking at Li Yan, it was undeniable their attention was on him.
This made him chuckle inwardly, do they think I conquered Yu Xiaodi in bed? Are they worried we might mess around in the elevator and be a nuisance?
Without anyone speaking, they reached the hotel lobby. Li Yan checked the time, seeing an entire afternoon had slipped by, with the sky already darkening and lights turning on outside. It was about time to find a place for dinner.
Heading towards the hotel entrance, Li Yan noticed Yu Xiaodi still beside him, while her few bodyguards kept a certain distance.
"Why are you still following me? Are you addicted to being abused?" Li Yan lit a cigarette, turned his head, and looked at Yu Xiaodi.
Afraid he would blow smoke in her face again, Yu Xiaodi distanced herself a bit and then said, "When watching the movie, I treated you to chips and cola, these past two days you got quite a bit of money from me, surely you can treat me to a meal in return?"
After all the commotion, instead of getting revenge, she ended up giving Li Yan new leverage, helplessly giving up and marking it down, consoling herself with the adage, "Revenge is a dish best served cold." At the same time, Li Yan's ability to unlock handcuffs intrigued her, wondering about a man like him being a gigolo for a wealthy woman. Is he really married to her? Who could put up with this shameless, rogue guy!
"Crazy! You dare mention cola again?" Li Yan glared at her, thinking it's the first time he's been blindsided, falling into the hands of this little brat.
Seeing his expression, Yu Xiaodi felt amused, ha! Yeah! Didn't this guy look down on us? Wasn't he so smug? Yet, I managed to dazzle him, right? I still won a round, it's two to one, not a total loss. He seems pretty upset!
"Actually, I saw your car was being repaired, and I kindly thought of sending you back. But as a girl, I can't suffer losses, so you treat me to dinner, and I'll drive you home." Yu Xiaodi blinked, her youthful, cheeky face full of innocence.
"Not interested."
In the midst of speaking, Li Yan had already exited the hotel and headed to the roadside, with Yu Xiaodi following him.
At this moment, a taxi zoomed in from the left road. Besides the rushing sound, there was a faint shout from the driver, seemingly indicating a brake failure.
And with not much distance left, if the driver couldn't veer away in time, they'd definitely crash into Li Yan and Yu Xiaodi!
