Chapter 128 Ravens Town
The records that were continuously opened were surprisingly similar: the callers all denied their own reports in the end. The richness of his life experiences made Boris's complexion grow increasingly somber.
"Chu Feng, what's the deal with this woman named Mary Shaw?"
Chu Feng hadn't expected Boris to be so sharp. He'd noticed something was amiss just from a few police call records on the computer.
"Boris, you caught on quickly! Now, given my profession, what kind of person do you think I asked you to look into?"
After hearing Chu Feng's words, Boris was instantly shaken to the core and eagerly asked, "Mary Shaw, is she a Bizarre, or a Demon from Hell? Also, what happened to those callers? Why would they end up vehemently denying their reports?"
"She's an extremely powerful Bizarre. So powerful, in fact, that I might have to choose a strategic retreat if I were to face her true form!"
Chu Feng recalled the feeling he got from her at the apartment Gordon and his companion shared, and gently shook his head.
"As for those callers, they've probably all become Mary Shaw's human puppets by now!"
"What? How can there be such a powerful Bizarre?" Boris's pupils constricted the instant he heard Chu Feng's words.
He couldn't believe what Chu Feng was saying.
Boris knew about most of the Exorcism events Chu Feng had been through. In his heart, Chu Feng was already considered the most powerful human in the world.
He had never imagined that a Bizarre more powerful than Chu Feng could exist in the Human World.
"I'm going to report this Mary Shaw situation!" Boris's voice was laden with gravity. Clearly, this Bizarre who had appeared was putting a lot of pressure on him.
"That's definitely the right choice. And I suggest we start by leveling that town with a nuclear bomb. It might not kill her, but at least it would seriously injure her."
After hearing Chu Feng's suggestion, Boris, on the other end of the phone, thoughtfully nodded. "A nuclear bomb? That's a good idea!"
After hanging up, Chu Feng threw his phone on the desk, leaned back in his chair, and a smile crept across his face.
Mary Shaw, although I may not be able to defeat you now, I can still cause you some trouble!
...
Three days after Chu Feng spoke with Boris, a special flight from Washington slowly landed in Augusta, the capital of Maine.
A group of five people, looking hurried, disembarked from the plane. They took two cars and headed straight for the State Government office building.
Two hours later, from behind the Maine State Government office building, a convoy of five nearly identical black SUVs quietly headed north.
Ravens Town, located in the heart of Maine, was enveloped by a dense forest. The livelihoods of almost all its residents were closely related to the trees on the outskirts of town.
Though it was called a town, due to economic decline, most people had chosen to move to bustling cities, as there were more opportunities there.
Consequently, the remaining population no longer matched the numbers a town should have.
Today, the town's only theater was open.
Ravens Town had no music halls, bars, amusement parks, or other such entertainment facilities, and almost no other recreational activities. The residents' daily lives mostly revolved around working from sunrise to sunset, with only occasional gatherings at a friend's house.
So on this day, nearly all the town's residents had come here to witness the theater owner's mesmerizingly skillful puppet performance.
"Billy, come say hello to everyone!"
In the packed theater, on the central stage, an extraordinary white-haired old lady held a boy puppet dressed in a black suit with a bow tie. She smiled and greeted the audience below.
The stage lights shone directly on the puppet, allowing the audience to clearly see its every movement and the opening and closing of its mouth.
"Hello everyone, I'm Billy! I'm so happy to see you all again here!" A voice, much like a cartoon boy's, suddenly rang out on stage.
After the Billy puppet spoke, smiles appeared on everyone's faces in the audience, and they cooperatively burst into applause.
CLAP, CLAP, CLAP...
For a time, thunderous applause echoed throughout the entire theater, taking a long while to subside.
"Thank you for your applause. Billy feels everyone's love for him."
"Billy, since everyone loves you so much, what will you..." The old woman's voice paused abruptly before continuing, "What will you perform for everyone?"
"Billy needs to think hard about that..."
While the audience inside the theater was engrossed in the puppet show, outside the town, on the sole highway leading to the outside world, five black SUVs simultaneously pulled over. A black sedan of the same color closely followed them.
The black car doors were forcefully flung open. From each SUV, two men clad in gray-black Combat Suits with face masks obscuring their features, descended promptly.
Each man held a strange-looking firearm. Judging by the diameter of the muzzles, they clearly were not designed to fire conventional ammunition.
"Clear!" After scattering and meticulously scouting the surroundings, they all reported in through their earpiece-like comm devices.
In one of the central SUVs, a middle-aged woman with short brown hair, wearing a gray casual suit and black-framed glasses, listened to the reports through her earpiece and lightly pressed it.
"Begin the operation. Watch your safety! GO!"
Following the woman's orders, the sedan at the rear of the convoy sped past the five SUVs and headed towards the distant Ravens Town.
A young couple was seated in the sedan, looking very much like tourists on a road trip.
In the central SUV, the middle-aged woman pulled out a military-grade laptop. After a series of operations, an in-car view appeared on its screen.
Given the camera angle and the surroundings, it was clear the camera was positioned on someone's chest.
The middle-aged woman stared intently at the screen, her gaze unwavering, her impassive face betraying no hint of emotion.
The young couple drove for about ten more minutes and finally neared Ravens Town.
The town's roads were rather clean, showing signs of human habitation.
However, though the young man and woman drove through the town for quite some time, they didn't encounter a single person.
The couple in the car exchanged a look, their eyes filled with gravity and concern.
"Continue forward. Search the entire town to confirm if there are any living people." The middle-aged woman's icy command came through their earpieces. The young couple had no choice but to steel themselves and drive towards the back of this bizarre town.
Eventually, their car stopped outside a theater at the far end of the town.
