Chapter 122: Rescue Down
Seeing their scheme exposed by Chu Feng, James and John did not show even a hint of embarrassment. Instead, they continued to gaze at Chu Feng with eager eyes.
"Alright, alright! But take it easy; the funds I have are limited! Before we start, first discuss the details with Lin Qiu, Taran, and the others. Also, discuss with the people who were persuaded to join."
Upon receiving Chu Feng's agreement, the two were overjoyed.
"Don't worry, BOSS, most of the expenses for this plan are concentrated in the initial startup phase. Afterward, it should become self-sustaining."
Having said this, the two hurriedly left Chu Feng's office with the proposal, clearly eager to advance to the next step of the plan.
These two rascals... Chu Feng watched their departing figures and shook his head with a smile.
...
「The next day,」
"Holman, is the Gordon family still living in that house?" Chu Feng asked the captain of the Spirit Explorer team, who was driving them toward Brooklyn, with a puzzled look.
"That's correct. The doll has been following them. Gordon even tried moving to a friend's house temporarily, but that very night, the Annabelle doll suddenly appeared in their room..."
Tsk! It really is relentlessly persistent! Chu Feng couldn't help but admire the Demon's tenacious spirit after hearing the story. Seems like it really has a penchant for human souls.
After driving for about an hour and a half, the car finally stopped by the roadside in a residential area.
Getting out of the car, Chu Feng looked at the unremarkable house before him and crinkled his nose slightly.
Hm? No smell of sulfur? He sniffed the surrounding air but detected only the scent of grass, which surprised him somewhat.
Seems like the Demon behind Annabelle is much smarter than the idiots that came through the Gate of Breaking Boundary. At least it's good at hiding its scent!
Chu Feng, with a smile, turned his head to look at Holman, who was sitting in the driver's seat looking somewhat nervous.
"Alright, you should leave now! If a fight breaks out later, I might not be able to look after you."
"Yes, Mr. Chu Feng," Holman replied, as if granted amnesty, and immediately stepped on the gas.
The black car roared away, disappearing around the corner in an instant.
It's just a Demon. Is all this fuss necessary? Chu Feng chuckled and shook his head as he watched the car vanish.
「A minute later,」
Ah? They moved away?
"Yes, they moved out just two days ago. I heard they moved to an apartment downtown!"
"Alright, thank you very much for the information. Goodbye!"
Chu Feng smiled and said goodbye to the passerby. But as he turned away, he sighed, speechless.
"Holman, come pick me up right now... immediately!"
「Half an hour later,」
Holman parked the car in front of an apartment building downtown, his expression sheepish.
Chu Feng got out of the car, turned, and looked expressionlessly at the Spirit Explorer team captain. This was his first outing with Chu Feng, and he had already made a minor yet notable mistake.
"Holman, go back and tell everyone at the agency," Chu Feng said, his voice serious yet devoid of any fluctuation. "From now on, all client information must be updated promptly. Especially before undertaking a commission, you must reconfirm the details with the client. Got it?"
Holman hadn't expected the dreaded word 'fired'. He suddenly looked up, his face showing a hint of surprised joy as he gazed at Chu Feng by the car. "Understood, Mr. Chu Feng!"
"Good. You can go now." Chu Feng waved his hand and turned to enter the apartment building.
The building's decor looked somewhat dated. Numerous mottled marks on the floor tiles testified to its age.
DING.
With a clear ring from the old elevator, the doors opened on the fifth floor.
Looks like this is the place!
Feeling the Bizarre aura pervading the air, Chu Feng nodded slightly.
His Spiritual Perception spread out. Dozens of orbs of light and shadow, varying in brightness and size, gradually appeared in his mind.
Found you, Annabelle!
Exiting the elevator, Chu Feng focused on the apartment to his front left. His Spiritual Perception revealed a dark shadow within, hovering near two dimly lit orbs of light—one large, one small.
KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCK. Chu Feng gently knocked on the somewhat old door.
After waiting for a while, the door remained unopened.
Hmm? Could it be true that arriving early isn't as good as arriving at the perfect moment? Watching the aimlessly wandering orbs of light inside the house, Chu Feng raised an eyebrow.
SHIIINK.
A smooth sound of friction, and in the blink of an eye, a long knife slid into the gap between the door and its frame.
Chu Feng forcefully swiped the knife downwards. SCRAPE! After that sound, a key was no longer needed to open this door.
BANG! Chu Feng pulled the tightly closed door open.
"Lia~ Lia~"
BANG! BANG!
The moment the door opened, a woman's anxious calls and the sound of banging on a door reached Chu Feng's ears.
Quickly striding through the hallway and past the kitchen, Chu Feng stopped before a wooden door on the left side of the living room.
CLICK! With the crisp sound of a lock yielding, Chu Feng pulled the door open.
The Bizarre power originally entwined around the door was struck by the Spiritual Power from his hand and dissipated without a trace.
"Who?" Startled by a stranger suddenly opening the door beside her, Mia stumbled back several steps in fright.
"I think saving your daughter first is more important!"
Inside the study, books were continuously falling from the shelves, heading straight for a cute baby on the floor.
Yet, as if teasing intentionally, all the falling books narrowly missed the baby.
Outside the study, Chu Feng smiled at the panicked woman.
Spiritual Power surged in his hand, and he swiftly opened the other wooden door, which led to the study.
"Lia~ My daughter!"
Seeing Chu Feng open the study door, Mia, casting aside her fear, rushed past him into the room.
She scooped up her daughter, who was still playing on the floor. Her pale face was etched with a mixture of lingering fear and profound relief.
This child has actually stopped crying? Chu Feng was somewhat surprised to see the clueless, adorable baby in Mia's arms.
However, he didn't dwell on it. It was possible that the baby's naturally acute Spiritual Perception had gradually lost its effectiveness under the assault of the Bizarre power.
Moreover, as people age, their Spiritual Perception tends to dim, except for a few particularly special individuals.
"She must be Lia, right? She's quite cute."
Looking at the adorable baby in Mia's arms, a gentle smile unconsciously appeared on Chu Feng's face.
Hearing Chu Feng's voice, Mia finally remembered the stranger who had suddenly barged into her home. Her gaze immediately shifted from her daughter in her arms to Chu Feng beside her.
"Are you... Are you Mr. Chu Feng, the Exorcist?"
Mia, finally getting a clear view of Chu Feng's face, asked with some uncertainty.
"Yes!"
While casually answering the woman, Chu Feng's attention was already entirely focused on the doll. It had appeared at some unknown point on the floor by the doorway.
