Chapter 20: The Thinker
(Saiki is walking to school on a typical morning, hands in his pockets, as usual. But as he goes, he can't help but notice all the little things that everyone else seems to ignore. People rushing, kids arguing over trivial things, adults stressed over work. He sighs.)
Saiki (thinking): It's the same every day. People stressing over nothing, talking about pointless things. Does anyone else see the absurdity of all this?
(He passes by Kaidou, who's practicing his "Dark Reunion" poses in front of a mirror he brought to school. Kaidou clenches his fists, muttering about some imaginary villain.)
Kaidou: They think they can outsmart me, but I'll show them the true power of the Jet-Black Wings!
(Saiki raises an eyebrow as he walks past, questioning Kaidou's sanity for the thousand time.)
Saiki (thinking): Does he ever wonder if any of this is actually real? Or does he really believe he's a hero in some fantasy world?
(Just ahead, Hairo is cheering up some classmates, his voice loud and enthusiastic.)
Hairo: Come on, everyone! You can't slack off today! Hard work now means success later!
(Saiki stops, watching as Hairo goes on his motivational speech, full of energy that most people would only use for emergencies.)
Saiki (thinking): Does Hairo ever stop to think about why he's so obsessed with 'hard work'? Is it his purpose or just a way to stay busy?
(As he reaches the classroom, Saiki notices Teruhashi, as usual, surrounded by admirers. She's adjusting her hair in a pocket mirror, acting oblivious to the attention but clearly enjoying it.)
Teruhashi (to herself): Just a quick touch-up… everyone's watching, after all. That makes me a really nice girl.
(When she sees Saiki, she tries to act even more perfect, giving him a dazzling smile.)
Teruhashi: Oh, Saiki! Didn't expect to see you here so early!
(Saiki ignores her, trying to blend the background and sit in his seat.)
Saiki (thinking): Why do people care so much about appearances? Or impressing others? None of it matters in the long run.
(He sits down and watches as his classmates interact. They're all so absorbed in their own worlds, each with their own strange priorities. As he listens to their conversations, he starts wondering if he's the one who's different.)
Saiki (thinking): Am I the only one who actually thinks about things? Or do they just avoid thinking altogether? It feels like I'm on a different level ,no, a different planet sometimes.
(A little later, Nendou walks in, his usual wide grin on his face. He drops his bag with a loud thud next to Saiki's desk.)
Nendou: Oi, pal! You look like you're thinking hard about something!
(Saiki doesn't respond, only looking at Nendou out of the corner of his eye.)
Nendou: You should loosen up, man! Life's too short to think about stuff all the time!
(Nendou starts digging through his bag, pulling out random snacks and comic books, and tossing them around his desk. Saiki watches him, surprised at how little thought Nendou puts into his actions.)
Saiki (thinking): Nendou… he just does things without a second thought. Maybe he's right. He never worries, never overthinks. Maybe that's why he's so happy.
(Hairo joins them, looking at Saiki with his usual smile.)
Hairo: Saiki, you're looking serious! Don't worry, thinking too much can be exhausting. Sometimes, you just have to take action! Thinking too hard slows you down!
(Saiki looks between Nendou and Hairo, noticing how easygoing and cheerful they are. He starts wondering if they're onto something. Maybe he does overthink everything.)
Saiki (thinking): Is that what I'm missing? Am I just making everything complicated in my head?
(Suddenly, Nendou throws an arm around Saiki's shoulders.)
Nendou: Hey! How about we skip thinking for a bit and just hang out? We could grab some snacks or do something fun after school.
(Saiki stares at Nendou, genuinely surprised by the invitation. He usually avoids these kinds of situations, but something about it feels refreshing. It's as if, just for a moment, he could try seeing the world from their perspective.)
Saiki (thinking): Maybe I'll give it a shot, just this once. I'll see what it's like to be 'normal,' even if it's just pretending.
(The school day ends, and Saiki walks with Nendou and Hairo to a nearby park. Nendou is cracking jokes and trying to impress random passersby, while Hairo encourages everyone around them to smile and "keep up the good work." Saiki simply follows along, observing, letting his mind quiet down. He starts noticing things he hadn't before, small moments of laughter, kids running around carefree, even the sound of the wind in the trees. It's calming.)
(Later that night, Saiki sits in his room, thinking about his day. Usually, he avoids hanging out with his friends, but this time, he actually felt… relaxed.)
Saiki (thinking): Maybe it's not so bad to let go sometimes. They don't worry about everything like I do, and maybe that's why they're so carefree.
(But as he looks at his desk, with his books and familiar routines, he feels at ease.)
Saiki (thinking): This is where I belong. Watching things from a distance, keeping my own peace. I don't need to change just because they think differently.
(Saiki leans back, feeling calm and ready to go back to his usual habits.)
Saiki (thinking): It's nice to see things from their view once in a while, but I'm okay just being… me.
Author thoughts:Through this i want to tell you, to just be yourself, don't try to behave different from what you are just to impress other people, is useless and more harmul to you.
Saiki:Good grief , just end this novel.
