Chapter 19: Peace Maker
(Saiki is walking home with Nendou and Kaidou. They're both walking in complete silence, which is rare for them. They had gotten into an argument at school, and neither of them wanted to talk to each other now.)
Saiki (thinking): Finally, some peace and quiet. If they argued more often, maybe I'd get some rest.
(He enjoys the quietness, listening to the birds and the wind. Nendou and Kaidou are both still angry, each one pretending the other doesn't exist. Nendou kicks a pebble down the street, and Kaidou keeps looking over, looking ready to say something but then stops himself.)
Saiki (thinking): If I don't do something, this silence will turn into shouting any second now.
(Saiki stops walking, making both Nendou and Kaidou look over at him.)
Saiki: You both remember what you're even mad about?
(Kaidou shifts nervously, while Nendou scratches his head, looking confused.)
Kaidou: Uh, yeah… Nendou said my fighting move isn't real!
Nendou: Yeah, 'cause it's just you flapping your arms around like a chicken!
(Kaidou clenches his fists, but before he can respond, Saiki interupts.)
Saiki: You're mad about a fighting move you're never going to use?
(Nendou and Kaidou pause, realizing how silly that sounds now.)
Kaidou: When you say it like that, it does sound dumb.
Nendou: Yeah, we're friends. No reason to argue over that!
(Saiki lets out a sigh, relieved they're not fighting anymore.)
Saiki (thinking): Finally, maybe I'll get my quiet time back.
(Nendou and Kaidou exchange awkward smiles.)
Kaidou: Sorry, man. I didn't mean anything by it.
Nendou: No problem! Besides, you can flap your arms all you want, Kaidou.
Saiki (thinking): That somehow sounds worse. But, at least they're back to normal.
(Nendou and Kaidou quickly go back to laughing and talking loudly. Saiki sighs but walks along, glad they're friends again even if his quiet time is over for now.)
