Chapter 79: The one with the Information
After some time, Zayn calmed down and started to think. Why didn't he think about that earlier?
Then it hit him: from the novel, he knew the only other hex master he was going to meet was the instructor Luna.
Who, based on the novel, was righteous when it came to the new generation of students? But it hit him that it was only part of the truth.
Zayn understood the limitations of the novel. It was written from the perspective of Liam. So it did not mean that the things Liam did not experience could not happen to others.
After all, just like right now, Liam did not know about him and Xane within the novel, who knew about the future. Also, didn't he already meet a third hex master, who was neither his class teacher nor his mentor?
Now Zayn understood why a part-truth was more dangerous than knowing nothing.
After all, unlike him, Xane only heard a summary of the novel, so he thought about the worst possibility that other hex masters might capture them.
It became clearer to Zayn that knowing the novel also became a kind of shackle to him. Even though things were already going in a different direction, he was still fixated on the novel.
No, at best, he should take the information in the novel as a side guide. Side guide that contained hidden information about this world.
'Everything written in this guide is not the absolute truth.' There was a high possibility of things going in a completely different direction.
Zayn took his time to sort his mental chaos. By the time he came back to his senses, he saw Xane already walking out of the black castle.
He asked in a calm tone, [What now?]
Xane looked up at the massive moon. The clear breeze hit his face as he said in a cold tone. <First, we need information. Information about what's going on in the academy.>
The moment he mentioned that, Zayn thought about all the possible ways they could get information.
Even though he was still thinking about the events and people present in the novel, there was now a degree of detachment.
It was more like he was now reading information from the internet in his past world. Even though the internet in his past world had all the answers, not everything he could find there was true.
A person still had to check the authenticity of the information.
After thinking for some time, Zayn said. [There is a guy in the novel, in our class, who is pretty famous for his ability to gather information. We could try to approach him first and see if it's the same this time.]
Xane instantly caught the difference in Zayn's way of addressing the events from the novel.
But he just smiled and asked with interest, <Oh, interesting. So where can I find this guy?>
Zayn asked in surprise. [Wait, you want to meet him this late?]
Xane nodded, <It's either now or earlier in the morning. Zayn, I have a feeling something interesting is going on here. After all, didn't you see hex master Xenor's reaction?>
<I mean, think about it. How come the attack that night made him lose face? I don't think a hex master would care about such trivial matters.>
Zayn instantly thought about the seniors he had met that time. Even though they were talking about a night creep. [Someone must have twisted the entire event? You know what, we still have a decent number of points, and it's not even time for the students to sleep. Let's see if this guy is the same as in the novel.]
Xane mentally nodded and clapped, "Let's go!"
Next, Xane started to follow Zayn's instructions, and soon he walked to the center of the last residential area.
There, he found a big central wooden building. Upon asking around, he realized that it was a two-person shared building.
It had 20 rooms, 10 on each floor, and each room could accommodate 2 students.
As he walked into the building, he realized its structure was kind of similar to the room he had recently paid for.
Not long after, he stopped before the 4th room and asked, <Is this the room?>
[Yeah, in the novel, Marcin used to operate here. If nothing changed, then he should have already started his operation.]
Xane tapped on the door as he repeated the name inside his head.
From what Zayn explained, this guy's ability to gather information was top-notch.
Soon, the door opened, and he saw a whitish-brown guy peeking past the door.
Brown hair, black eyes, common face, but Xane felt something was amiss here.
That's when he noticed Marcin's weird-shaped ears. It looked like someone had torn a part of his ear, but even after that, Marcin's ear looked the same size as a normal person's.
He asked just to confirm, "Are you Marcin?"
The guy looked him up and down, then said with a smile, "Oh, I never expected one of the Zenaris to come here."
Xane raised his eyebrow. Even though this was the first time he was meeting this guy but he could hear the sarcasm in his tone.
Xane realized Marcin must be one of those guys who hated the Zenaris family. He had already met a bunch of similar students, so instead of wasting time with introductions, he just pulled out his ID. "I want to know about some recent stuff."
Marcin casually glanced at his ID, then instantly opened the door wide. "Oh, so it's a customer. Why don't you come in, dear customer?"
Xane raised his eyebrow at this sudden shift in Marcin's attitude.
One moment he was the enemy of the Zenaris family, and at the mention of business, he had already forgotten the animosity.
Xane just smiled casually and walked in.
He raised his eyebrow when he saw there was nothing but a sofa present in the center of the room. It was like this room was tailor made for business alone.
Xane asked in confusion, <Wait, can we pick two accommodations at a time?>
