The Boundless Expanse(An Epic System Apocalypse LitRPG)

Chapter 675

Hurricane's Vengeance reached up, and plucked a spear of the heavens' wrath from the air. A glowing blue lance of white hot lightning, about a hundred feet long, it represented enough electricity to boil a sea. Sam watched as the dragon tossed it in his direction. Reality went black and white as discharges of radiant light scorched his eyes.

"Finally…" Sam breathed. "A real challenge." As his body moved, the shafts of white light that were driven through his limbs moved with it. Dao Juggernaut allowed him to do things that would have been impossible for most E Rankers, especially ones as low level as him.

He used all of his strength to swing Terra's Will at a speed that went beyond the limits of anything a mortal could have even imagined moving at. The chunk of metal carved through the air, sending sheets of flame rippling out in every direction. It was moving at well over ten thousand miles per hour, but before the lightning, it felt slow.

Sam felt reality slowing down as he channeled his Dao into the hammer. It lit up as a cloak of red and blue surrounded it. Like a meteor, it crashed into the center of the lightning bolt. A second bolt erupted from the end of the hammer, and pierced the lightning bolt. Rupturing from the inside out, the electrical spear tore itself apart as it tried to force its way through the impermeable surface of Terra's Will.

Sam bellowed in exertion as he powered through, flying down the center of an expanding column of fractured light. His body became a projectile, E Rank flesh as hard as diamond accelerating to immense speeds.

The dragon set both of its stormy eyes on him and flapped its wings once. The air turned to clouds, and a swirling cyclone descended upon the creature. For almost fifty miles in every direction it extended, but over the course of a few seconds, it shrunk until it surrounded Hurricane's Vengeance like a suit of armor.

Each of the dragon's legs was covered in thick plates of metallic grey storm clouds, while its chest was completely invisible beneath a gargantuan chunk of the same substance. Its head was covered in a terrifying helm, horned like a demon.

Each of the dragon's feet was now tipped with five foot long claws, longer and sharper than most swords. Rings of electricity passed up and down the claws, giving them an even more ominous appearance.

The armor darkened, and a titanic sheet of lightning blasted out from the dragon in every direction. A moment later, it was in front of Sam, phasing into existence from a titanic bolt of power descending from above. It met his hammer with a claw. The metal of Terra's Will rang like a bell, and Sam felt his arm buckle. The claw forced the hammer out of the way, and then slammed into his chest.

His armor melted and his body shattered beneath the strike. Like a bored teenager flicking a wad of chewed gum, the dragon flicked Sam off its claws. He sped off, plummeting towards the nonexistent ground. All around him was open space. It took him a few seconds to acclimate, time in which Hurricane's Vengeance was able to gear up to strike once more.

Sam watched as the dragon seemed to swell, a spectral outline inflating its form a dozen fold. A wave of strange energy washed out in every direction, something that Sam had never felt before. It was as if the dragon's mere presence was more real than the world around it. Then it hit him. He had felt such a thing before. During the fight with Granthar, the D Rank king's very presence had been overbearing. Like he was a rock that the stream of reality bent around. Sam had simply chalked that up to the gulf in power between them, but now that he was so much stronger than then, his senses could make out a different answer. It was some power that was innate to D Rankers.
