Chapter 6: Battle Or Some Act?
At that instant, she noticed Arthur momentarily surprised, yet he swiftly masked it with a smile.
"Ah, naturally, how could I have overlooked it? It's a pleasure to meet you, Mrs. Evans and Mr. Amell Bliss," he remarked, glancing at each of them
At that instant, Angel sensed a palpable tension radiating from their eyes.
She looked at each of them, curious about how they were acquainted, but before she could ponder further, she heard Amell's voice.
"It's nice to meet you too," Amell said maturely, yet Angel detected something unsettling in his demeanor towards Arthur.
She sensed that something was terribly amiss between them, likely the cause of their strained expressions.
Arthur nodded, slipping his hands into his pockets before directing his attention to Angel. "Well, I would like to have a personal conversation with Angel, and since—"
"No, there's no need for that. I'll speak with you," Angel interjected, hurrying towards him before Evans or Amell could react.
Moreover, she found everything incredibly awkward with Riley, Amell, Tryson, and the Bliss family.
What secrets were they hiding from her, and why did it seem like they were dealing with internal conflicts?
Or maybe they were just putting on a show, but were they truly doing that?
Angel moved away from the pair, strolling alongside Arthur. He appeared to study her with an expression she hadn't noticed until she accidentally caught his eye.
Angel quickly looked away.
"I bet you're curious about how all this unfolded," Angel remarked, turning her eyes back to him as they came to a halt, locking eyes.
Arthur maintained his silence, his expression calm and unwavering.
With a click of his tongue, he lowered his head and took a deep breath before speaking, "Angel, I'm not upset with you. I just need some clarity; I thought we were in a relationship?"
Angel pressed her lips together, unable to find words.
Although she was indeed dating Arthur, the hefty sum Tryson demanded beyond their contract made it inevitable that she would let him down due to the situation.
"I understand, Arthur. But I'm asking for a bit more time. I promise, I'll resolve this," Angel softly replied, her furrowed brow causing him to ponder her intentions.
"What do you mean by sorting it out?" Arthur asked.
Angel was tempted to reply, but dragging Arthur into her problems over a mere contract didn't sit well with her.
Regardless of her issues, she was determined to handle them on her own.
"It's nothing. Anyway, you seem familiar with the Bliss family. How are you connected to them?" Angel evaded the question.
She noticed Arthur's gaze darken slightly before he composed himself to answer her question.
Without hesitation, he replied, "It's a long story. But if I'm going to warn you, Angel, don't trust that family. They have their ways of manipulating things, and believe me, being associated with them might complicate matters for you," Arthur advised.
Angel couldn't find any words to respond, but she grasped the essence of his warning. The family was indeed one to be concerned about, particularly after recent events.
Indeed, they were among the wealthiest families in the nation, maintaining a serene reputation. However, given Arthur's warnings and her own experiences with them, there might be underlying issues within the family that she hadn't realized.
"I'll—" Angel started to say, but Arthur cut her off.
"What about the date I promised you? Is that still on your mind?" he asked, observing Angel as she smiled and nodded in response.
"I really don't mind," she replied with composure.
Her attention soon drifted back, observing Tryson and Angel in conversation. A slight frown appeared as she focused on them, curious about their discussion.
"Angel," Arthur's voice broke her reverie when he noticed her distraction, prompting him to glance in the same direction to understand her focus.
"Arthur, I'll catch up with you later. I need to visit the restroom," Angel remarked casually, observing Arthur's nod despite his awareness of her unease regarding Tryson's presence.
Arthur was aware of the incident that had occurred two months prior, and he had consistently been kind to her since.
However, Angel still lacked the courage to confess that it was Tryson she had signed a contract with, and it was his family that had humiliated her in the past.
However, he appeared genuinely worried about her health, particularly for the baby she was carrying.
He wished for the best and also hoped she would improve herself. That was the reason he allowed her to assume the role of managing the market division of his company.
He had transformed her into the person she was now, a woman who no longer dreaded her history or feared others' opinions about her position.
And yet again, she demonstrated her ability to continue working even though her pregnancy made everything more exhausting.
They were involved romantically, although their relationship hadn't been formalized.
Arthur was fine with this arrangement because Angel was concerned about others' opinions regarding her dating her superior.
Therefore, both of them agreed to proceed at a gentle pace, honoring her personal limits while also maintaining their friendship.
In everything Angel was involved with, she sensed that Arthur had faith in her actions.
She deeply cared for him, but she also had to confront some unresolved matters—and ultimately, these issues were connected to a family that Arthur was well-acquainted with.
This was a family that appeared to be in competition with his own for various reasons.
Moreover, she was determined not to undervalue herself again, especially after the events that had previously transpired.
Therefore, if she consented to Tryson's requests, it signified that she intended to offer them something in exchange.
In the meantime, Angel leisurely walked over to the area where Riley and Tryson were engaged in conversation.
She gasped in surprise when she suddenly felt a chilly stream of liquid soaking through her clothing.
"Oops, that wasn't what I anticipated," she heard Riley remark with a touch of rudeness shortly after.
