Chapter 92: Cure
Apparently, the only lootable parts of these Man-Eating Apes were their beast cores, horns, brains, and fur…
Beast Cores were rare since they could sometimes break within their bodies during a battle especially when they were pushed to their limits. Furthermore, destroying their Beast Cores was also considered a method to kill stronger Magic Beasts since their horns were considered to be more expensive than the Magic Cores which had limited uses.
The brains, on the other hand, seemed to be a common ingredient in some sort of alchemy that even the newbies would be able to use.
As for the other parts or organs of the Apes, there was simply no market for them in this region. Even their meat could not be eaten because of possible Mana Poisoning.
Of course, there might be Alchemists willing to pay for those other parts but that only normally happens in the Capital.
Since there was no way to transport them without becoming rotten, these organs were easily ignored.
Then, it was at this time that Hayden glanced in the direction of the wrecked carriage. He noticed that Silas and a few others were already trying to rescue these people.
Hayden then rushed toward the wrecked carriage…
"Let's see…" He muttered as his Ocularis Lens scanned the scene...
The armored guard who had been protecting the two women was slumped against the broken wheel, his helmet dented and his breathing was ragged. But his injuries were superficial—he'd live.
The two women, however, were in critical condition.
One was a noblewoman in her late twenties and her fine silk dress was torn and stained with blood.
The other was younger, likely her handmaiden. She also had a pale face from blood loss.
Both had deep lacerations from the carriage's splintered wood, and their breathing was shallow.
'Not good…' Hayden thought as he looked at Silas. It seemed that he also realized that two were in bad condition.
Silas pushed past the mercenaries and his face was ashen.
"Lady Clarisse!" he gasped, dropping to his knees beside the noblewoman. "No, no—this can't be happening!"
Farah frowned. "You know her?"
Silas' hands trembled. "She's the daughter of Lord Julius Dainar—one of our most important trading partners! If she dies here…" He didn't finish the sentence.
The implications were obvious—this could start a war. After all, the fact that the Apes were drugged was definitely not a coincidence. Someone must've targeted her and they wanted it to happen in his territory!
The physician in the caravan soon inspected the two and shook his head. Their injury was too big and they had lost too much blood. Critical injuries like this weren't something he could treat.
"Try this…" Silas said as he gave two of his Tier 1 Life Pills.
Unfortunately, not even his precious Life Pills were able to cure them!
"We need to at least stabilize them…" Farah said.
Her voice was calm despite the urgency. She believed that if they were able to bring the noblewoman to a town with a doctor or maybe even an alchemist if they were lucky, Lady Clarisse might live.
Silas looked toward the mercenaries. "Do any of you have better healing potions? Anything? I'll pay triple its worth!"
Silas only had those two Tier 1 Life Pills and the other Life Pills he had were not even tiered. The most it could do was treat small wounds.
Perhaps they needed Tier 2 or even Tier 3 Pills to save them!
Palos grimaced, pulling out a small vial of murky red liquid. "Basic wound-sealer. Won't do much for blood loss."
Nea shook her head. "I've got painkillers, but that's it."
The others said something similar.
"Same. Nothing high-grade."
"It's a pity. I don't think there's even an Alchemist around here that could make Tier 2 medicine."
"We should at least try to find the one who orchestrated this."
Silas' face twisted in despair as he realized that there was nothing he could do.
"Then they're doomed…"
Then, it was at this time that Hayden made up his mind.
With his Ocularis Lens, he confirmed that there was a solution. However, with his agreement with Dr. Veyra, this wasn't one he could reveal openly.
"Put them in one of the wagons…" He said. "I might be able to help."
Silas blinked. "You? What can a squire do that trained medics can't?"
Hayden met his gaze calmly... "More than you think. I can't guarantee but there's a huge chance… And I need privacy. It's your choice… However, if I healed them, I need a reward."
Farah folded her arms. "Kid, if you're hiding some miracle cure, now's the time to share."
Hayden shook his head. "It's not a potion, but an item. It's something I got from the Headmaster and I'm not allowed to show it."
Hearing about the Headmaster, they immediately recalled Hayden's special position. As an Elite Squire, he was definitely favored by the retired Aura Knight.
Hayden must've received something to save his life and he was about to use it for others!
Finally, Farah grunted. "Fine. But if they die in your care, don't worry about it. It's not on you."
Hayden smiled at her before looking at the Caravan Leader.
Silas hesitated, then nodded. "Do it."
Just like that, the two women were carefully carried into the largest wagon, its canvas cover was drawn for privacy.
'79% chance? That's good enough…' Hayden mused as he saw the success rate according to the Lens.
Soon, Hayden knelt between them, rolling up his sleeves.
From a hidden pocket in his belt, he withdrew a small leather pouch.
Unrolling it revealed a set of twelve silver needles… They were the silver needles that he had brought from his home!
Indeed, Hayden was about to use his Acupuncture but this time, he felt more confident since he realized that the patients this time were actually Aura Initiates!
With a faint Aura in their bodies, the Ocularis Lens was right to give him a 79% chance!
