Chapter 60: The Order of Sages part 3
The biology of the Valyrians was not very different from humans, all the organs were in the same place and their functions were perfectly the same, immunological reactions, regeneration, and adaptation were all the same. The big difference itself was in the blood, all Valyrians had silver hair, silver blood and violet eyes.
I was no exception to that rule, at least my blood and hair were, only my eyes were even redder after I came of age. As blood seemed to be the main factor that differentiated humans from Valyrians I began to study it using microscopic vision.
What makes our blood red is the hemoglobin in the red blood cells and I was able to find something similar in the blood of the Valyrians, inside the Valyrian cells the blood cells found were silver and also had a different shape than those of humans. I'm sure if you looked at a dragon's blood you would find the same type of blood cells in its cells. This small difference in the cell responsible for the oxygenation of Valyrian blood is what causes their blood color to be different, as well as their hair and eyes, there was still something that I could not quantify and that was magic, but it did not influence what I was doing now. All of this was confirmed by the biology books I collected from the Lords' library, as well as my most recent tests.
The big question of the Alteration skill was, would it be possible to alter Valyrians like I altered humans? And the answer was yes! As long as the change did not alter so profoundly at the cellular level, both humans and Valyrians could undergo changes to improve their physical strength, agility, senses, and other adaptive capabilities.
As I showed the fish that I altered, everyone's mouth dropped open. There was a fish that I completely modified until it practically became another species. At least on the outside it was completely different. It was all about the brain adapting to a differently shaped body or a new type of vision or hearing, but this was equivalent to someone losing their vision and adapting to hear better or blind people gaining the ability to see for the first time. after a transplant.
I reinforced to everyone that we didn't have a powerful legacy when it comes to magic, but just the information I have along with my skills as a Blood Mage was something that made it very worthwhile to be a member of our Order. After showing the fish I showed one of the pirates who was unconscious. I gave the man a third eye on his forehead as part of the sense test. He had problems trying to see with all 3 eyes at the same time, but when he blindfolded both eyes, his third eye allowed him to see everything in the dark environment as this eye had been made for that purpose. When his third eye was blindfolded his other two eyes functioned normally.
There was another pirate that I just changed the existing eye and it worked the same way. But the question was how long the adaptation would take before he could see again using both eyes. That's why I came up with the idea of a third eye. I explained the pros and cons of such a change, then I went on to talk about strengthening bones, gaining muscle mass, as well as increasing the flexibility of muscles and bones, the difference between proteins and calories and the costs for each change.
The more I explained how the human body worked, the more fascinated they became. Vitarys, Jhon and Zaya were the first to start taking notes, like students learning a valuable lesson, the others watching them started to do the same thing when they saw that the information was valuable.
Most of this kind of information was in the Lords' library, but which of them ever had the chance to get in there? Now that all was lost, these books would be a benefit to our Order as well. After leaving them at ease, Aisha brought snacks and drinks, everyone started drinking while socializing, I told them about my alcohol-related condition, then I said goodbye to them and was the first to leave the meeting. Whether they would accept any changes to their bodies was a matter of time, after making the first one, which would be free, they would always want more and more and this would always cost their precious points.
I then began to reflect on the entire creation of this group, the Order of Sages. My goal in creating such a group was mainly to monitor them, while helping Zhang and Omar establish themselves in this world of magic by creating a network of contacts for them to be part of. Along with Liza, they were the 3 most behind the others and would have the hardest time with what was to come.
Inside the room, when I told them that they were all too weak to interfere in something big, it affected their egos, but the truth was that no one knew how big their future would be. Even now, alchemists like Zaya, Jhon and Vitarys are people with great influence wherever they go, but their lives would be at the mercy of assassins because they are too weak, a wrong choice or a conflict in the place where they were would easily end their lives. But if even 1 third of them became as strong as Esmer and decided to accept the job of advisors in some kingdom or minor house of Westeros, it would bring huge and unpredictable changes.
I need to make sure that nothing changes the future that I can foresee, while always moving in the shadows. Only then would I always be one step ahead of what is going to happen in 400 years. Another reason for my concern with this group was that I knew that this type of mage would live a much longer life than normal. But that was something to worry about in the future, I put those thoughts aside and went to meditate before calling it a night. When I was about to sleep, someone knocked on my door, it was Jhon, I let him in and asked if there was a problem. He opened his bag and handed me something.
"Did you send this message?"
When I looked at the message I saw a familiar phrase: "Beware of the faceless men!"
"Yes, it was me, I tried to warn all the apprentices, but without getting too involved."
Suddenly he bowed and said:
"I am eternally grateful for saving my life twice, if it weren't for your message I could have been killed by one of them, besides I was able to escape the difficult life I was having and escape death in Valyria. I will always be grateful and loyal to you! And I will follow your commands from now on."
What a coincidence, such a simple message intended to cause conflict ended up giving me such a loyal subordinate? I smiled and didn't refuse his loyalty, so I said:
"Very well, I will accept your vow of loyalty. We must become stronger and always move through the shadows to avoid interfering too much in the future. But in Asshai, we can move freely. Here, take this, it is a method for domesticating animals."
"This is very valuable! Thank you, I will not disappoint you. I only have one question... Can we trust Jack?"
"Let's keep an eye on him, it will be time to know whose side he is on when we arrive in Asshai."
Jhon waves goodbye, and when I'm about to go back to bed, someone knocks on my door again. This time it's Zaya.
"Hello Zaya, do you need anything?"
"I heard about your problem with alcohol, my father also went through it, and I made this drink for him. Here, take it."
When she handed me the drink, she stood near the cabin door, and I invited her in while I grabbed two glasses. I wasn't very confident that I could get drunk, but it was still worth a try. But that was really a mistake, after drinking the first shot I felt a bitter and slightly sweet taste burn my throat and my face heat up. At the same time, I saw Zaya's face turn red too. The system messages appeared at the same time.
[You have been poisoned by a low/medium level poison]
[Poison resistance (low) cannot remove the effects of the poison]
After reading the messages, a smile appeared on my face, and I continued drinking accompanied by Zaya...
An hour later, the door to Rafael's cabin opened, a red Zaya with wrinkled clothes came out, before closing the door she looked back where she saw Rafael who was standing near a Valyrian music player and made a "Hmph" sound, slamming the cabin door hard and staggering back to her own cabin. Upon arriving at her cabin, no matter how much Liza asked where she was and what happened, she remained silent the whole time.

Time flew by on the Valyrian Sigh and it was soon 1 month since we left New Ghis. This was not a peaceful period. We had many storms and during one of them the smaller sailboat was too damaged and we had to abandon it. Our two larger sailboats also had great difficulties, but they resisted, undergoing only a few repairs, when finally the period of storms seemed to have passed. During this last month, within the few intervals between storms, I continued my experiments and studies of the books collected in the Valyrian library. I improved my Asshai'i and Common, my sword skills. Oh, and soon there will be another meeting of The Order of the Sages.
Recently, while spending time with Fat Zhang and Omar, I was able to confirm that the two are now ready to receive their Alterations. I plan to help them so that others can see their results and notice the difference in their powers. Furthermore, I would never charge anything from the two of them, who are my friends, so this limitation of 1 free Alteration does not apply to them. I will help whenever I have free time. I will loosen these limitations for my subordinates as well, since if they are stronger they can help me even more. I am anxious to see what they want me to do to their bodies. I have already instructed Omar to gain weight and he has been doing so for the past few weeks, and I have also been doing the same thing. When I am distracted in my thoughts and reading another book, one of the men knocks on my door and shouts:
"Sir, we have found a shipwreck!"
