Chapter 14: The Main Villa
Lyra's POV
Walking through the main villa felt like stepping into an entirely different world. The elegance of the place was overwhelming—the floors gleamed, the walls were adorned and the scent of fresh pine filled the air. It was nothing like the servant quarters I was used to.
Kael led the way, his strides confident and unwavering as I trailed behind. I didn't know what was more intimidating: the grandeur of this place or the Alpha walking in front of me.
We stopped at the base of a grand staircase that spiraled upward. Kael turned to me, his eyes briefly scanning my face. "This staircase leads to the third floor," he said. "That's where I stay. Selena and the Beta, also have rooms up there."
His voice was calm, but I could hear the underlying authority in it, the unspoken rule that those stairs were not for me.
Without waiting for my response, he gestured for me to follow him down a hallway on the first floor. We walked past several closed doors until he stopped in front of one.
"This," he said, pushing the door open, "will be your room."
I stepped inside cautiously, my heart thumping in my chest. The room was beautiful, far more luxurious than I could have ever imagined. A large bed sat in the center, its frame carved from rich, dark wood. The walls were painted a soft cream color, and sunlight streamed in through tall windows draped with sheer curtains.
I turned to Kael, unsure of what to say.
"This is where you'll stay from now on," he said, his tone firm yet not unkind. "If you need anything, reach out to me. You know how to find me now."
The way he said it made my stomach twist. His words felt heavier than they sounded, like they carried a meaning I couldn't quite decipher.
"Thank you," I murmured, my voice barely above a whisper.
Kael didn't move for a moment, his eyes lingering on me. Then, with a nod, he stepped back toward the door. "Make yourself comfortable. You deserve better than the servant quarters, Lyra."
With that, he left, leaving me standing in the middle of the room, overwhelmed and confused.
I couldn't help it. After Kael left, I stepped out of the room to take in my surroundings. The villa was a masterpiece. The golden chandeliers sparkled above me, casting a warm glow on the polished floors. My eyes darted across the expanse of the hall, trying to absorb the magnificence of it all.
But then I felt it—an intense gaze burning into me. My skin prickled as if electricity coursed through it. Slowly, I looked up and froze.
Kellan.
He was standing on the third floor, leaning against the railings, his piercing eyes locked on me. His hands rested casually on the bars, but the intensity of his stare was anything but casual. I felt my breath catch, my heart pounding as if it had a mind of its own.
I stumbled slightly, nearly losing my footing, and quickly turned to head back into my room. Maybe if I ignored him, he'd let me go.
"Lyra," his voice cut through the silence, sharp and commanding.
I stopped mid-step, my body stiffening. Slowly, I looked up again. His gaze hadn't wavered. This time, he gestured with his fingers, beckoning me to come up.
No. I couldn't.
Kael's warning rang loud in my mind. He had made it clear that the third floor was off-limits to me. I couldn't disobey him, not after everything that had just happened.
"Lyra," Kellan called again, his tone sharper, more insistent.
I hesitated for a long moment before my feet betrayed me, moving toward the grand staircase. Slowly, step by step, I ascended, my heart pounding louder with each one.
When I reached the top, Kellan didn't waste a second. He grabbed my wrist firmly and led me to one of the rooms down the hall. The door clicked shut behind us, and I was suddenly very aware of how close he was.
His room was dark, illuminated only by the faint light streaming in from the window. The scent of pine and something distinctly sweet.
As soon as the door shut behind us, Kellan moved fast–too fast for me to react. His lips crashed onto mine with a hunger that left me paralyzed. I didn't kiss him back; I couldn't. I was too stunned, too overwhelmed to even think straight.
His hands gripped my waist as he pressed me against him, his body firm and unyielding. The kiss deepened as he shoved his tongue into my mouth, demanding a response. My mind raced, torn between pushing him away and trying to understand why I wasn't already fighting him off.
This wasn't right.
I needed to stop this.
Gathering all the strength I could muster, I shoved him back with trembling hands breaking free from his grasp. My feet moved on their own, bolting toward the door. My fingers fumbled with the handle, but it wouldn't budge. It was locked.
"Kellan," I said breathlessly, panic creeping into my voice.
He was behind me before I could turn, his tone low and laced with something I couldn't fathom. "You can't escape me, Lyra. You can only try."
His voice sent a shiver down my spine, and before I could stop him, he was leaning in again. This time, my back was pressed firmly against the door, the cold wood grounding me as his warmth overwhelmed me.
"Lyra," he called softly, his face just inches from mine. His tone was different now, almost tender. "Do you really not remember?"
His words threw me off balance. Remember? Remember what?
I opened my mouth to speak, to demand answers, but the click of the door unlocking broke the moment.
Kellan's eyes didn't leave mine as he stepped back, giving me space. The intensity of his gaze burned into me, making my body heat up despite the distance between us.
"You're free to leave," he said, his voice almost a whisper, but the weight of his words held me in place.
I didn't move immediately, rooted to the spot by the tension swirling between us. The sound of footsteps echoed just outside the door. My stomach dropped.
