Chapter 64 - A Boring Grey Room
Lucas moved through all the rubble back to where he was first standing when the Sphinx gave him his offer. Indeed, right there, an oval portal was standing, revolving about its own axis.
It looked mysterious as if it was a miniature black hole, and nothing within it could be seen.
"If only we had someone who was an adept of space in our council.", Lucas sighed.
"Maybe that is how they even got this place so awesome. Maybe they have the best at space and time. Maybe they reeled in Chronos himself.", Michael suddenly postulated.
"Maybe they reeled in Chronos himself? What are you, an idiot? He is supposed to be stuck in Tartarus, in bits and pieces.", Lucas scoffed.
"Someone can always combine the pieces together. It's not like it has not been done before. I mean, since when have the gods cared enough to even check in that pit anyway? They don't care too much about the titans anymore, and maybe that negligence led to him escaping.", Arthur shrugged.
"What do you mean, him escaping? This is the king of the titans we are talking about. Do you think that Zeus would not prepare for his own father's imprisonment properly?", Lucas said.
"Right now, what is important is not how the whole place was created, but how we go from one place to the next. There has to be an exit, and this seems to be it. So then, let us go into the portal, and see what awaits us, shall we?", Michael said.
"Yeah, you are right. We are just switching off topic way too many times these days.", Lucas nodded as he took a step towards the portal.
"Should we hold each other's hands or something, so that we won't get split up?", Lucas laughed.
"No thanks. I have something much better.", Mu Chen said as he put his bag on the sand. He fished his hand in and took out a rope of sorts.
"All of us, just keep holding this as we go in. Nothing will split us apart, unless of course, Hephaestus himself wants to.", Mu Chen said.
"You got us a rope?", Lucas raised his eyebrows.
"Better than holding hands. I mean, what are you? Five?", Mu Chen asked.
"More like five hundred, but okay.", Lucas caught the rope that Mu Chen threw towards him. Behind him, Mu Chen stood, and then Arthur and Praneeth. Michael was at the other end of the line.
"I am going in.", Lucas said as he took a deep breath. "Looks like I might finally meet that bastard after so long."
Lucas took another step forward and entered the portal.
The moment that he went through the portal, he saw a dark room. He went inside because he had no other choice. He was now at the mercy of every single trap that someone would lay out.
He went into the room and took a closer look at what the place was.
There were gray walls surrounding them, with the portal visible on one of the walls. There was a door, surprisingly, and Lucas wanted to open it so bad, but he waited for the rest of the council members to come in.
After all of them were in the room, Mu Chen took the rope and stuffed it in his bag like it was some treasure.
"What? Afraid someone is going to steal that? Who would want an over glorified rope?", Lucas laughed.
"This rope is more precious than whatever jacket you cribbed about and killed someone for. So, shut up. I care about this more than you cared about that jacket.", Mu Chen shot back.
"No fighting. You guys are literally children. So then, the door is right there. What are we waiting for?", Angela asked.
"I waited for you guys. So, should I open it? I am kinda afraid that there is something worse than what we faced all this time, just waiting for us to open the door though.", Lucas said.
"Wait a minute. Did I hear you right? Did you just say that you fear something? Oh my god, the world is turning up on its head isn't it?", Arthur said sarcastically.
Lucas snorted. He walked up to the door and opened it. In front of him was a corridor.
"Looks like a normal office building. Again. What are the chances that they will use the exact same thing again?", Lucas said.
"It worked in their favor last time. We lost close to forty minutes on the last floor, and they also got the Sphinx to guard it. Who knows how powerful the guardian of this floor is going to be? I just dread the final floor. Just the thought of facing the powers of Apophis gives me the chills.", Praneeth said.
"Let us see who all are here. I can hear a lot of chatter here, unlike last time. This is like an actual office floor. And put that all aside. She told me that this floor is where Peter is. She told me that he would be handed to me on a silver platter. What was all that about?", Lucas asked.
"It might just be a lie. I mean, she didn't commit suicide after I answered her question. She didn't even send me outside.", Praneeth shrugged.
"You knew the answer to the question even before she asked you, didn't you?", Lucas looked at Praneeth.
"No comment. The sphinx has not really adapted in all these years, and it asks the same boring questions. The answer would obviously have spread far and wide. She is only fearsome now because of her fearsome temper, and her physical strength. Not her questions.", Praneeth said.
"So the answer IS in the internet, isn't it? I knew it.", Lucas laughed as he stepped out of the room and into the hallway. He turned his head left and right.
"So many voices. So many people. Does no one know that we are here?", Lucas asked.
