Chapter 9: Chapter 9
Isla opened her eyes slowly, her vision slightly blurry as she tried to make sense of her surroundings. A damp metallic scent of rust and decay assaulted her nose making her scrunch her face in disgust. She tried to raise her hands to her nose then she noticed that her hands were restrained with rusty heavy chains digging painfully into her wrist. Her arms were raised high, chained to tiny hoops in the ceiling forcing her into an uncomfortable position.
Fear surged through her as she pulled against the chain trying to break free, the chains digging into her skin with each pull. "No… oh God! No" she said to herself in a very low voice. Her eyes moved around the room, the dim light making it difficult for her to see anything. The room felt small and she could make out the rough stones of the wall and the dirty floor. A touch burned in a sconce on the other side of the room making everything twist like living things. Her heart dropped as she finally realized the situation she was in. *Why am I in the dungeon?* She finally recognized where she was because she usually brought food for the prisoners when she walked in the pack house.
"Is anyone here?" She screamed, her voice echoing off the walls. "Help me please. Somebody help me"
Her cries for help were left unanswered but that didn't stop her as she continued to scream even louder with raw desperation. After screaming for a few minutes, she suddenly heard loud footsteps coming towards the dungeon. Her heart pounded loudly in her chest the closer the person came. Suddenly the creaky wooden door opened with a bang revealing a very angry guard. His face was twisted in an ugly scowl and his eyes twitched in anger, his imposing figure filling up the space.
"Be silent!" He barked in a harsh voice, making Isla shrink into the wall. "If you don't seize the noise I'll make you regret it"
"Let me go. I didn't do anything" Isla demanded, her voice cracking. "You can't lock me up. I didn't do anything"
The guard walked closer to her stopping when he was directly in front of her before squatting to meet her gaze. "You tried to leave the pack without permission," he said in a flat tone. "You're probably working for someone outside the pack"
"I'm not working for anyone. Let me go!" She screamed, pulling against her chain again. "I didn't do anything. I just… please understand. Let me go! Let me—"
"Be silent! Enough already!" The guard shouted, cutting her off. "Not another word from you or I'll make sure you never scream again in your life"
Islas' lip trembled as she tried to fight back the tears welling up in her eyes. The guard glared at her for a few moments before turning around slamming the door behind her as he left her in the cold dungeon alone once again.
Isla broke down in tears when she could no longer hear his footsteps unable to stop herself, her body trembling slightly as she cried. She leaned against the cold walls, tears streaming freely down her face, the chain leaving raw bruises on her wrist.

Time moved tortuously slowly in the dungeon. Isla had no idea how long she had been locked up here, it felt like days since she saw the sun outside. The dryness in her throat and the uncomfortable feelings in her joints told her that she has been here for a very long time. Her mind drifted to her baby, she tried to reach for her stomach out of instinct but the chains prevented her from doing so.
*I can't survive here anymore,I need to leave* she thought to herself.
Damon crossed her mind making her clench her teeth in anger. Was he aware that she was locked up in a dungeon? Was he the one who locked her up? Did he know about the baby? She boiled in anger at the thought that he'd do something like that to her but she wasn't surprised. His father on the other hand terrified her. She knew that he could kill her if he wanted to. *Am I going to die down here? Does Mira know I'm here?*
The faint sound of footsteps pulled Isla from her thoughts, her eyes darting to the door. The door opened with a loud creak revealing a guard different from the one who had come before. He appeared younger and had a teenage feature to him but his eyes still had an evil glint in them. Working for the alpha had that effect on them.
"Here, water. Drink up" He said in a gruff voice, placing a small cup on the floor close to her feet before making her chains longer so that she could drink.
Isla stretched her aching bones, sitting on the floor before gulping down the water greedily. "You need to let me go. I didn't do anything. I—"
"Don't sweat it. Savour that water" he interrupted. "You never know when you're getting another "
"Please wait" she said hurriedly as he turned towards the door. "What are they going to do to me?"
For a brief moment, a sympathizing look crossed his eyes before his face hardened. "I don't make the rules here" he said curtly before stepping out, locking the door behind him.
Isla released a sigh of defeat as she leaned into the wall. She was at least grateful that she wasn't hanging on the wall uncomfortably anymore.
*****************
Somewhere else in the pack house,
A lanky servant named Gareth walked swiftly through the garden of the pack house, a victorious smile playing on his lips. His heart rejoiced knowing he knew a secret of the alpha. *An omega pregnant for the alpha* he thought out loud, his heart filling up greedily with self importance.
A voice pulled him out of his thoughts, making him turn around to see a guard walking towards him.
"Gareth, right?" The guard asked gruffly. "The alpha requests for your presence.
A sense of pride filled Gareth's chest at the thought that the alpha knew his name causing his grin to widen. "Me? The alpha requests for me?"
The guard rolled his eyes before nodding. "He said something about a reward for your…diligence."
"Right away, right away" Gareth said excitedly, the wheels in his mind turning in excitement. He wondered what his reward might be. Maybe a higher position in the pack like a warrior or maybe a guard.
"This way" the guard said motioning for Gareth to follow behind.
Gareth walked behind the guard, through the pack house and towards the direction of the forest. Gareth stared at the guard unsurely. "Why are you leading me into the forest?" He asked nervously.
"The alpha mentioned something about it being a secret" the guard replied in a curt tone. "I'm just as I was told, don't question me anymore"
Gareth's mind relaxed at the guard's words. *I'm the only one that knows the secret so he wants it to remain that way* he thought to himself.
They continue to walk deeper into the forest, the light from the evening sun barely piercing through the thick canopy of the trees. "Don't… don't you think this is too far? Maybe you already passed our destination" Gareth stuttered, his mind reeling with unease.
"Stop being a chicken, we're almost there," the guard replied.
That did nothing in calming Gareth. "I'd like to go back now…I'm not going anywhere further" This made the guard turn to him,his cold eyes staring at him in the dark forest.
Suddenly a figure appeared by Gareth right before he could react, piercing a blade through his stomach.
"Help—wait" Gareth cried out in pain trying to crawl away from them but was held down by the guard who led him there.
"You whine like a child" the guard said in disgust before plunging another blade through his chest silencing Gareth forever.
