Chapter 258- Inquisitor Of The Sacred Truth (3)
"You tried to omit some parts, so now you are also feeling the repercussions".
"Kuh!! You can't do this to us. We are the king's guard. Sir Jerrel, are you allowing this to happen?"
The second knight looked at the commander of the order of Emerald almost in a manner of begging. The latter wanted to help them at first. However, after hearing the Divine Paladin asking them such specific questions and them refusing to answer or twisting their words, he started feeling that just perhaps…
The Emerald Knight did not move and continued to stay apathetic. Seeing this, Reinhardt grinned and continued wth his questioning.
Having suffered under the effects of the title, the two knights were more cooperative now. Nevertheless, when asked with classified information, they owing to their nature, tried to lie or use any other way.
Naturally, the effects of his title triggered again, causing them such immense pain that they spilled all the beans like a loose lipped whore.
The more Jerrel listened, the more shocked he got. Up until now, he refused to doubt his fellow knights and the king. However, after listening to them, even if he wanted to deny, the truth was just too clear to him.
The events of the 31st were manmade, and the one responsible for summoning the demon was none other than the king and his guards.
"Now, if you answer two more questions of mine, I'll let you go." Reinhardt's words gave hope to the two knights who were now extremely fearful of him.
"First question, destroying the Staleport doesn't seem like your real motive? Why did you destroy the city, and who was it targeted for? Answer!!".
The two knights instinctively looked at Jerrel. These fools had unintentionally revealed their secrets without answering.
"I-It was meant for the Emerald Knight. We used the demonic humans to create a summoning circle large enough to summon a demon powerful enough to kill the Emerald Knight."
The answer was true; they were safe. Reinhardt glanced at the next king in line and carefully phrased his next question.
"Last question, who is after the Emerald Knight and why?"
The two knights gulped; the answer to that question was so heavy that they did not dare to open their mouths lightly. However, when the chains slowly, started strangling their tongues and the weight of their body increased, to save their lives, they revealed everything.
"It's the king, he wanted to get rid of the Emerald Knight and place his son, who is the Vice Commander of the Order of the Emerald, as the next king of Rune".
And there it was, the puzzle solved. The attack on Staleport city, the sailors betraying them, and the devil's triangle. All of this was done to get rid of a single man.
The House of Odessa got encompassed in the politics of another kingdom because the demon that was summoned held a strong resemblance to Scarlett, a famous high ranking knight from Solaris.
The trail was just a farce, seeing that the Emerald knight did not die even after fighting such a powerful demon, they set another trap to get him killed, and that was to send him to the Devil's Triangle, from which no man came back alive. All of this was done just to get rid of Jerrel.
As promised, Reinhardt set them free. Of course, it was only from the effects of his title. He never promised to heal them of all their poison.
The two knights cried out, but he turned a deaf ear, walked past Jerrel, and tapped the knight on his shoulder.
"There you have it, the complete truth. I'll leave the fates of these two knights with you. You decide what you want to do to them."
Saying that, he walked away and stood by the corner, looking at the starry night, unfazed and unmoved by the scene that occurred next.
There were dying screams and pathetic begging; nevertheless, with an impassive face, the Emerald knight finished the betrayers. After that, he stood by the side of the Divine Paladin and observed the starry sky just like the latter, his eyes blurred with contemplation.
"I would never be able to think that my own king and vice commander would try to plot to kill me behind my back".
"Power is a kind of thing that once one comes to possess it, it can corrupt them easily. The more you have it, the more you are unwilling to let it go. It's just basic human nature."
The king of Rune who had tasted this fruit, didn't want to let the throne go and wanted to keep reigning over it or at least keep it in the family by passing it to his own bloodline.
The fact that the vice commander was not present in all of the aforementioned incident indicates his involvement in it.
"Sigh… I get it now, I think I was too focused on my duties that I ignored the corruption that was spreading right around the corner of my eyes. It looks like I have much cleaning to do".
"Don't beat yourself up, nobody can become adept in governance and politics in one day," Reinhardt was speaking this from experience.
"I won't say thanks for this. Instead, I will show you my appreciation the way you wanted. Don't worry about the trial; the Earl of Odessa or his daughter won't be harmed. You have my word". The Emerald Knight solely declared.
"In that case, I am glad I was able to aid you." The two knights smiled.
Jerrel was the official next king of the kingdom. Naturally, the amount of people's support and network he had was staggering. If he were on their side, Reinhardt could rest easy about the trial tomorrow.
Just as their conversation was coming to an end, the latter raised a peculiar question.
"How powerful was she?"
Jerrel did not need to ask who he was referring to. He naturally knew the answer and a bitter smiled appeared on his face.
