Chapter 239- Kevin's Awakening: Release [Tiamat]
Haha, at this point, Vangeance started laughing. It begs mentioning that his life was quite a roller coaster up until this point. From an orphan to a street thug, to losing his sister, then getting jailed, the demon attack, and finally meeting Commander.
No wonder this person was laughing amidst his manly tears.
"What happened after?" Kevin questioned, engrossed by the story.
"Heh, what else. On the Commander's request, my execution was stopped. However, I couldn't stay in the city, so I went to the jungle. I lived there for a couple of months, hunting monsters and fighting every single day of my life. The day of the magic knight exam drew near. However, the words Commander spoke to me had at this point completely slipped out of my mind"...
"It was then, the one who appeared before me was master, Marcus."
Just the name of the person was enough to even make a former thug like him, whose days started with blood and ended with blood, to shudder from head to toe.
"I don't want to talk about what happened after. Long story short, I appeared for the magic knight exam still in my primitive garb. Everyone was throwing disgusted looks at me, and the audience started booing me, throwing food and stuff at me"...
"However, when the exam started, I shut them all up with my prowess, breaking every record that year. I was the star candidate, much like you." He looked at Gwen.
"I was a star candidate yes, but one nobody wanted, unlike you. I was too violent; my appearance, as you can imagine, was pretty rough – I'd been living in the forest for months. To top it off, my personality was shit, not characteristics that you want for a future knight"...
"Naturally, I received no invitation from the knight orders, except for one. Commander Reinhardt and master Marcus took me in and made the person that I am today. That is all my story, ya happy?"
Everyone nodded their heads; they understood the knight named Vangeance more profoundly now and how he came to become who he is.
It was also no wonder that he had become like a completely different person after seeing the condition of those women. His past trauma must have given him a flashback of his sister, bringing out the wild, beast like personality suppressed deep within him.
At this moment, when the squad was sighing, empathising with Vangeance's words, out of the corner someone passed a snide comment.
"Hoh, what's that? Is a grown man crying? Haha, pathetic!"
"Fufu, don't say that. Don't you know? They are high and mighty knights of the Temple of Light with their noses in the air. Ordinary people like us might not even be worth their time".
The one to speak those words were the adventurers from the Brilliant Sword. One was a burly looking man with short hair and full body armor, the other a woman in a mage's grab. Their words and taunts were clearly a provocation.
"Heh, I heard the Temple of Light was once one of the Seven Great Knight Orders of the kingdom. However, in an incident, they fell from grace and now ranked at the bottom end of the seven. At this point, it could just be said that they are clinging to their title, which would soon be replaced by some other knight order".
"Haha, you are right. The Order of the Temple of Light are just a bunch of washed up, has been knights".
The man and the woman laughed.
"What did you just say?"
"Heh, we were only speaking the truth, there is no need to be mad."
Right after fanning the flames, these people were behaving as if there was no need to react so strongly.
Calm and collected as he was, even Rolan was angered by their comments.
Delicia frowned, as the most experienced out of all here, she could clearly tell that it was a ploy. Her eyes looked towards in the distance, where the leader of the Brilliant Sword, Alex was.
The way he was looking away and chatting with the noble boy and his entourage, it seemed like he was unaware of the confrontation that was going on over here. However, Delicia knew that it was him who spurred his subordinates to provoke them.
"Bloody bastards, just because I have been a little accommodating, you think that you can climb on top of my head and dance?"
Vangeance with his face distorted into a murderous look, got up. However, before he could unsheathe his sword, Delicia stopped him.
The client's son had already started to see them in a negative light. Now on top of that if they started a fight, it would no doubt end up ruining their reputation.
That was how it was in the Silver Shield, a group of nobles who valued their reputation as much as they valued honor. That said, this was not the Silver Shields; it was the knight order that Reinhardt built.
The order of the Temple of Light with its unique group of members who came from all walks of life, never cared about reputation. They did what they wanted and would sometimes get in trouble for it.
They are always the centre of attention and the topic of discussion of every citizen of the kingdom. The only reason they hadn't been ordered to disband was because of their usefulness as a powerful band of knights and their Commander's reputation, which precedes everything.
"Don't you dare badmouth my senior whom I respect, and especially my order!!"
Speaking those words, the one to step out was not Vangeance or Rolan, but the most unexpected one. Kevin glared at the man and woman, clearly angered.
"Heh, have the Temple of Light fallen so low that they even let a weak brat like you join them?" The burly warrior folded his hands, provoking them further, while the female mage snorted in ridicule.
"Senior Vangeance, leave those two to me".
