Chapter 17: Helping The Bone Demon
The King grunted as the golden glow in his eyes dimmed for a moment but it had lit back, far brighter than usual.
“How, how can you summon so much power without blood” the Queen exclaimed staggering back as the wind generated from the spiraling dome threatened to pick her off her feet, it just like a tornado.
Within the tornado, the Vampire King rose before speaking, “I am not like you, I have experience the terror of the outside world and have grown” he spoke before turning towards the five Vampires, “you guys are guilty, but forgiven because the Vampire race needs more Royals not less” he said before turning to the Queen, “as for you, your fate will be decided by him” he said before the glow in his eyes started to dim and this time, it did not lit up again.
The King softly landed on the ground as the cyclone slowly dissipated. Suddenly, the King grunted falling unto his knees and his body was turned greatly shrunken as if he had aged greatly within this few seconds. In fact that wasn’t far from through, after all the king had tapped into his life force to summon the gigantic cyclone.
“Thanks Father, I will take over from here” Kurtz spoke from behind and the smiled.
The Queen eyes were also most popping out of their socket as she watched Kurtz terrifying transformation.
She had thought the demonic bone demon which Kurtz had earlier transformed into was hideous but the creature in front of her now was something she could not understand.
Kurtz still had the white bony armor over his body but now, there are some notable changes. On his head, the bony armor had turned into a helmet and from the helmet, two large horn jutted out.
Sharp spikes also ran from the top of the helmet down his back and in front of him two rows of spikes ran down from his shoulder right to his knees with the spikes on the knees being even more prominent than the rest.
In his hand, the bone demon held a gigantic bone sword and in the other, a round shield could be seen.
“Father don’t want you five killed so I won’t come after you, but don’t try to stop me as well” Kurtz spoke before blasting towards the Queen whose face turned frantic.
“Don’t fall for his words, we need to destroy him” she said looking at the five but after exchanging brief glances, they swiftly retreated and the Queen’s eyes widen.
“Useless” she spat as Kurtz’s sword fell upon her from above.
A dense red aura immediately materialized around her body and she swerved to the side in a moment avoiding the attack but Kurtz seems prepared for this as he sent flying the shield his hand spinning right towards her head.
The Queen was caught off guard as she felt the terrifying force slammed into her head sending her staggering forwards before Kurtz blasted after her, his sword swinging again into her head and this time she could not avoid it, her head was sent flying off her body.
Kurtz however knew this did not spell death for the Queen, if the head were place back she would still revive.
“I will give you no chance to survive” he said before grabbing her head and soon, it crumbled in his hand before melding into the bones on his body.
Moving towards her body as well, he grabbed it and soon the body was reduced to a boneless mush as well.
Slowly, the bones on his body receded into him and soon, Kurtz was back to his real self, half naked in a small pant.
He turned towards his father was had stood by the side, his hair had turned white while his face had several freckles deep in them.
The King looked at him for a moment before sighing, “Forgive me son” he eventually spoke.
Soundlessly, Kurtz looked away from him before walking off.
“If possible, I would love you to look for a way, a way so the Vampires don’t have to depend on humans for survival anymore” he heard his father spoke from behind him and Kurtz paused for a moment, “you had me right son, the is my last request” the man said before turning back towards the palace.
“What the hell are you spouting father” Kurtz thought looking back to his departing father, the King shoulder which had been wide just moments ago was now shrunken. Now, the King would without doubt have to go into slumber, and maybe in thousands of years later, he would wake up a vibrant vampire again.
Kurtz sighed looking around before seeing some bones scattered across the ground. Those were his mother’s bones and he would not watch them waste away.
Slowly, he gathered the bones in a pile before sitting down and staring intently at them, Kurtz did not know how much time had passed but the realization had eventually struck him, his mother was gone and gone for good.
Hugging the pile of bone to his body, he stood before looking around.
Fortunately, few buildings in the human settlement had been destroyed and many humans were still safe in the rest, Kurtz thought before his face stiffened.
“Uh, when did I start caring about the humans” he muttered, before chuckling, no matter what, his mother was human so he was also partly human, hating humans was also hating himself.
“It’s, it’s the bone demon, he is coming” Kurtz suddenly heard a voice whispered from within one of the buildings and several terrified gasps rang out before the place turn deathly silent.
“Seems some humans are there” he thought before walking towards the place.
Kurtz reached a door on which he knocked but there was no single response, the human seems to be trying to hide, an attempt failed before it even began.
“Hey, I understand you guys are scared and all, but it’s actually okay, I am not here to hurt you so please, just open the door” he said, trying to be as calm as possible.
However, other than the quickening heart and erratic breathes, he got no response.
“Okay, let’s put it like this, I looked terrifying earlier right but I wasn’t trying to hurt you, I was only after the Vampire Queen who killed my mother. The Vampires are your enemy, right? and since I killed their Queen we can both agree that I am their enemy, and a fact has always remained that the enemy of your enemy is your friend, think about it, I am your friend right?” he explained himself but even still, all he got was silence. But he could feel the quickening hearts and erratic breaths were calming, his words were having some effects.
“Actually, I need somewhere safe in the human settlement to bury the bones of my mother, Eleanor. Please, help me.” Kurtz spoke again and he could hear subtle movement within room. It sounded hesitant, timid, and light.
“Don’t open that door Dunn.” a voice whispered in the room but the door had been opened right after and to Kurtz surprise, it was a young boy who looked about twelve years that had finally heeded his call.
“Are you Madam Eleanor’s son?” the boy immediately asked on opening the door. He tried to hide his fear but Kurtz could see it, the boy’s eyes were calm but his hands were trembling, his heart quickening with each moment.
“Yes” he nodded, “I am her son” he added looking into the boy’s eyes.
“I will help you.” The boy said before walking out of the room and closing the door behind him.
