Chapter 191 - Utter Helplessness
The situation was incredibly precarious. The mixed group from both teams had just escaped a deadly attack by mere meters, but the heat of the torrent of black fire still hung heavily in the air, a burning reminder of their near-demise. As everyone scrambled to their feet, they finally got a clear look at the monstrous beast that stood before them. Its shadow, cast by the last vestiges of the orange sunset, was so colossal that it engulfed them all, a dark blanket of death that stretched across the ruined town.
Zorvhael's body was elongated and serpentine, with scales that shimmered like a starless night sky, reflecting faint patterns of voidlight. His wings, resembling torn banners, phased in and out of visibility as though he were half-immaterial. His maw opened unnaturally wide, lined with teeth that seemed to fade into nothingness, and his eyes were not fixed or solid; they swirled like twin galaxies of darkness. He was larger than a three-story building, even bigger than Sebastian's robot, and his sheer presence was a suffocating weight. Drake, with his heart pounding in his chest, didn't hesitate to use his trait [Heavenly Eyes] to see the dragon's information.

[The 'Darkness Dragon God: Vharzun' has thousands of children, but only three of them have received his recognition and most powerful blessing. These are the '3 Sons of Vharzun', the three most powerful dragons of their race who serve as the absolute generals for their father's army. The third son, Zorvhael, is the weakest of the three but the most impulsive and guided by a thirst for recognition. However, he shares, just like his brothers, the stigma of absolute evil.] |
Drake couldn't help but let out a nervous laugh. An S- rank entity... And not only that, the system indicated he was the weakest of the three main dragons in the scenario. He thought back to just a few months ago, when he was fighting pirates, and now he was facing something that many would consider close to a god. It was insane.
This was a realm where most teams considered an A rank opponent to be a final boss of an extremely difficult scenario, and anything near S rank was reserved for the most powerful users in the entire system, those who had honed their skills to such an extreme and survived so many scenarios that it was difficult to think that at some point they had been normal people. And yet, there was 'No Name', face-to-face with something beyond their possibilities… Again. Just like before, they had been sent to fight enemies beyond their capabilities, but somehow, they had always emerged victorious, but now?
Everyone prepared for combat in their own way, but despite their readiness, the enormous dragon simply fixed his gaze on one of them, his eyes glowing like suns, and his head completely still, as if he were surprised by what he was seeing.
Drake used everything he had from the start, summoning his divine wings and even activating his [Personal Skill: Effort Always Pays Off].

[The legendary sword has answered the call!] |
This caused his legendary sword to emerge from the sky and fall like a meteor in a beam of light. A great sword, larger than Drake himself, with a golden hilt and golden lion head decorations on the jade blade, appeared in front of him. However, an additional system window appeared in front of him.
[A higher entity has reacted to the theft of one of its possessions and has set its sights on the user 'Drake Shaw'.] |
Drake froze for a moment, feeling as if a huge, invisible eye had been placed on him. He didn't know what it meant or why it was happening; the sword was legitimately his… However, he didn't give it any importance; he couldn't afford to waste time. The same happened with the other members of his team and the other team. Alter Kazue had invoked her sword of light again and was looking at the dragon with nervous eyes, gritting her teeth.
Both Drake, alter Kazue, and Katya were the first to launch themselves toward Zorvhael, but they immediately felt the pressure that emanated from him. It was so strong that it was even visible, like an eruption of smoke coming from the dragon. The three of them had to cover themselves with their respective weapons to protect their faces, but were still thrown backward, while the rest barely avoided being dragged away by the current.
It was clear that the beast was far beyond their capabilities, and a plan for victory didn't seem possible. However, Zorvhael didn't attack them… He simply kept looking at the same point. But it wasn't a random point; he was looking at the small group of Nikolai, Sebastian, and Falk, more specifically at the old man, who had been the only one who, despite the outburst of energy, had remained standing without knowing what to do, as if he were not affected at all.
The dragon finally spoke, with a voice that boomed and hissed like a snake.
"I cannot believe what I am seeing."
Zorvhael said, his voice echoing in their minds.
"A true treasure in human hands, a treasure worthy of my father's collection!"
Everyone was still recovering from the energy current from a moment ago and did not have time to understand what the dragon was saying. However, to the shocked gazes of everyone present, Sebastian's body was enveloped in a layer of blue energy, holding him in place and making his body begin to glitch as if he were a digital image, completely frozen in time.
Nikolai, who was next to Sebastian, looked at him and could not help but scream in fear, moving away by reflex. Falk also exclaimed Sebastian's name and tried to fly toward him, but in the blink of an eye, the old man's body was no longer there. Everyone saw it… Or at least saw the outcome of it. Zorvhael's body, despite its gigantic size, had moved so quickly that none of them could notice until it was too late. He had taken Sebastian with one of his enormous claws and was now flying in the sky above them all, as imposing as a mountain.
Zorvhael spoke again, his voice filled with a cold sense of triumph.
"A treasure like this belongs to the 'Darkness Dragon God: Vharzun' by divine right. I will be the one who offers it to him as a tribute as soon as possible… However, it is unworthy for me not to take care of humans with the 'Cursed Mark of the Evil Dragon', even when I now have a much bigger goal to attend to… Hmm."

With that, Zorvhael raised another of his colossal claws, and from it emanated an enormous sphere of black fire. The sphere began to compact until it finally exploded, showing a small being. Well, "small" in comparison to Zorvhael, because the newborn entity was even larger than a human.
The creature was a humanoid figure with dragon wings and a malformed head, a mixture between human and dragon. Its eyes were completely white, and its skin was completely black, as if it were burned, with veins glowing a vibrant, bloody red. Zorvhael let it float, and the being began to fly in front of the dragon.
"Finish all the humans in this place, and then return to my side."
Zorvhael commanded just to, moments later, disappear from the place in a sonic boom so powerful that the shockwave reached the ground below and almost wiped out all the users again.
On the ground, Drake and Kazue had watched in horror as the dragon had taken Sebastian. Despite their screams, they had not been able to do anything to stop it. And not only that, the draconian creature descended like a rocket toward where they all were, shrieking horribly and showing that instead of human fingers, it had enormous claws. The creature's attack was so fast that it was now in front of them all. The creature's rush intercepted Drake, and at that moment, his eyes were able to see the information about it.

They are beings with no thoughts of their own, who exist only to obey the orders of Vharzun and his sons. The more powerful the infected person was when they were alive, the more powerful their corrupted version will be.] |
The group did not know it, but this particular Void Dracling had once been a very powerful human champion and hero, so strong that he had been one of the few who had been able to kill several Darkness Draclings in order to protect his people. However, he had not been able to do anything against Zorvhael himself, who, seeing his potential, had eliminated him with his cursed fire and turned him into that monstrosity. And now, that corrupted version of the once-brave human was a monster that would not stop until it had killed everyone present.
The fight began with brutal intensity. Everyone, or almost everyone, attacked the monster, but they were not having any success. Nikolai, Falk, Emir, Chloe, Charles, and the Empress in Adam's body simply watched the fight from the side. For some reason, Charles had stayed close to the Empress, not allowing her to move or get involved in the fight.
Gregor was the first to strike, his [Energy AK Reaver] roaring to life as he unleashed a torrent of special bullets made of spiritual and demonic energy. The bullets, glowing with a malevolent light, flew toward the Dracling's body, but they did absolutely nothing. They simply bounced off its charred, black skin, leaving not a single mark.
Li, seeing the futility of Gregor's attack, launched his best spell.
"Shin Kuria Draak!"
He screamed as his spellbook glowed with a brilliant golden light. From the book, a massive winged serpent made of pure solar energy erupted, its form a shimmering, celestial being that shot toward the Dracling with incredible speed. But before it could even impact, the humanoid monster simply raised one of its enormous claws and, with a dismissive roar, tore the serpent in half. The solar energy dissipated with a pathetic hiss, leaving the Dracling completely unharmed.
Katya and Drake were fighting together like a symphony of deadly movements. Katya, with her living scythe, and Drake, with his glowing jade sword, were a perfect match, their attacks a blur of pure Imperial Ki and cursed energy. They lunged and lunged again, trying to find an opening, but the Dracling was too fast. Its movements were incredibly precise, showcasing a martial prowess that was almost supernatural. It would parry a blow from Drake's sword with a flick of its claw, then effortlessly dodge a strike from Katya's scythe by tilting its head.
The two of them were now on the defensive, barely able to block the monster's claw attacks and accumulating more and more wounds. A sharp talon grazed Drake's arm, leaving a deep gash, and a vicious backhand from the monster sent Katya flying into a pile of rubble, her mask cracking from the impact.
In a moment when there was a small space between the Dracling and the others, the two Kazues advanced in perfect, unconscious synchronization. It was an uncanny sight, a mirror image even. They stood shoulder to shoulder, and without a word, they simultaneously launched the same skill: their [Storm Titan Howl]. A torrent of swirling wind erupted from each of their mouths, fusing together to create a single, colossal tornado. The storm of wind howled with a raw, elemental power, a maelstrom of destruction that shot toward the Dracling with incredible speed.
But the Dracling was unimpressed. It simply let out a low, rumbling roar of contempt and, with a dismissive swipe of its colossal arm, tore the tornado apart. The wind howled and dissipated, scattering harmlessly across the field. The monster, seeing its attack nullified, let out a furious shriek and responded by firing a blast of black fire at the two girls. They barely managed to dodge the attack, but the ground where they had been standing exploded in a brilliant flash of black and red.
The original Kazue, caught in the shockwave of the blast, was thrown to the side, hitting the ground with a pained grunt as the wind was knocked out of her. The alter Kazue, however, was more battle-hardened. She was able to cover herself just in time, her body a perfect shield against the worst of the impact, but the look of grim determination on her face showed that she knew they were in serious trouble... The fight was too uneven.
The one-sided battle continued, and the others could only watch with impotence as their friends were slowly being beaten. Chloe bit her lip so hard that a small amount of blood began to seep from it, a feeling of absolute uselessness washing over her. She couldn't do anything, even with her new skills, and the sight of her friends being hurt was a torment she couldn't stand... Or could she? A small, desperate voice in her head asked. She didn't know how, but she had to try something. She took a step forward, her body filled with a newfound resolve, ready to do something, anything, but she froze when Emir stepped in front of her.
The child, with tears in his eyes, could not bear it any longer. He had seen violence and death since he had use of reason, in his war-torn home, but seeing it directed at his new family, his friends, was a pain he had felt before, when he lost it all... He was not going to let them hurt his friends. And worse, he had just seen Sebastian get taken away without being able to do anything, a feeling of impotence that was all too familiar. He would not stand by idly ever again, no matter what he had promised Adam. He would use everything he had to fight, even if it meant breaking his promise. He was not a coward, and he would not be useless again.
As he advanced, he materialized his [Dark Galactron Claw] in his hand and began to scream, a primal, guttural cry that came from the depths of his being. As he screamed, two coins appeared in his free hand, glowing with a dark, sinister energy. A voice, mechanical and malevolent, came from his item.
"User: King of Monsters - Access Granted."
The voice announced. Emir placed the two coins into the sockets of the claw-like item, and the same malevolent voice spoke again.
"King Chimera! - Red Death! - Great Demon Lord: Noctharis! ... Demonic Kaiju Fusion, unleashed!"
A black energy enveloped Emir instantly, and his body exploded. Immediately, a gigantic mass began to form, taking the shape of a monster… Its body was a chaotic mass of energy that rapidly began to solidify. The creature, far larger than a three-story building and dwarfing even Sebastian's robot, was a sight to behold. Its body was a horrifying blend of three different beings, akin to a monstrous Tyrannosaurus, with its black, scaly skin covered in jagged, red spikes. A pair of enormous, curved horns sprouted from its head, and its eyes glowed with a malevolent, unholy light. Its hands were colossal, and its arms extremely long and muscular, with razor-sharp claws at the end and a pair of massive, demonic wings emerging from its back. Once the monstrous form was complete, the mechanical voice spoke one last time.
"Demonic King: Death Chimera!"
The monster was Emir, and as he let out a ferocious roar, the sound shook the very ground beneath them. He launched a mighty punch at the Dracling, a blow so powerful that it finally impacted it head-on. Incapable of resisting the brute force of the kaiju, the draconic humanoid was sent flying into a pile of nearby rubble, where it went through several walls and destroyed everything in its path.
Everyone looked on in shock, not knowing how to react. The alter Kazue, on the other hand, was looking at the transformation with gritted teeth.
"I knew it…"
She finally said with fury in her eyes.
"King of Monsters scum."
