Superstar's Development Diary

Chapter 17: Chapter 17 Dragged into the Sky

The show will definitely be a hit with He Jinxia's remarks; if Ji Jiawen is smart, she'll know the best thing to do right now is nothing at all.

He Jinxia hummed in agreement and said, "Brother Luo, thanks a lot for this time."

Luo You knew what she meant and shook his head, "The chief director of 'Letter to Future Self' was my college classmate, and we have a pretty good relationship. After you decided to go through with it, I immediately called him."

"Even with that kind of connection, the fact that the show put you in the final spot is because the topic you provided was explosive enough; relationships alone wouldn't have done it."

He Jinxia opened her eyes, looked up at Luo You driving in front of her, and earnestly said, "Regardless, I still appreciate you putting your connection on the line for me, Brother Luo."

Luo You let out a long sigh, "No need to thank me now; wait until you're actually successful in losing weight, then it won't be too late to thank me."

If the weight loss wasn't successful, both of them would be doomed.

"Jinxia, I'm betting my entire fortune and life on you, you've got to pull this off for me..."

He Jinxia's calm face couldn't help but show a trace of a smile as she turned to continue looking out the window. She touched the glass lightly and whispered, "I will."

The world is so wonderful, how could she bear to bow out early.

Soon, they arrived at the dormitory building.

Luo You dropped her off at the main entrance and said, "I've made an appointment for you with a nutritionist for weight loss. You're going for a medical examination next week, just take a rest this week."

He Jinxia thought for a moment and then said, "Brother Luo, it's been a long time since I went home, I want to go back."

Luo You approved without a second thought, "Okay, I'll call you when it's time for the check-up."

The two of them agreed on that, and as Luo You was leaving, he glanced at He Jinxia several times, seemingly with something on his mind but hesitated to speak.

He Jinxia noticed but didn't ask proactively; she trusted Luo You's judgment as her agent.

What she needed to know, the agent would tell her; what she didn't need to know, the agent wouldn't tell her.

He Jinxia forced herself to try to trust others, to step out of the shadows of her past life; she didn't want to become overly wary and cold because she had been harmed by her closest kin in her last life.

In this new and dazzling world, she wanted to truly enjoy it.

Seeing He Jinxia's composed appearance, Luo You hesitated for a moment, but in the end, he still didn't speak up; he simply told her to have fun at home before driving away.

Unfortunately, the very thing he didn't want to talk about came to light after He Jinxia reached her floor in the dormitory.

This floor was home to third-tier and second-tier celebrities who had already debuted; normally, everyone rarely saw each other as each was busy with their schedules.

But this time, as soon as He Jinxia stepped out of the elevator, she heard a woman's indignant voice—

"Sister Zimu, He Jinxia has really gone too far, stealing the variety show that was supposed to be yours! We were members of the same group before; was there really a need to snatch resources the moment she left the group? It's just too much!"

Before long, a soft and gentle female voice came through, sweet and coquettish. Just by hearing it, you could feel an urge to protect her.

"Don't say that about Jinxia. I believe Jinxia didn't do it on purpose."

He Jinxia's eyes flashed with a hint of interest as she recognized the voice.

The leader of JY girl group, the one who held the C position—Li Zimu.

In the original host's memory, Li Zimu was like a caring big sister, always taking the time to talk with her one-on-one and cheering her on, no matter how disappointing the original host was.

Compared to the original host, who was simpleminded like a blank sheet of paper and naively believed others, He Jinxia had seen such tactics much more often in ancient times.

A meaningful smile tugged at the corner of her lips as she walked over.

"Sister Zimu, you're just too kind. That's why you get bullied. Without you speaking up for He Jinxia in the group and asking fans to be more understanding, how could He Jinxia enjoy the popularity and status she has now?"

Others chimed in, "Exactly, Sister Zimu, if it really wasn't intentional, then why did it happen that right before 'Letter to Future Self,' they contacted you first, and then He Jinxia whisked the gig away? You're just too nice, and she's clearly using the JY girl group as a stepping stone!"

"Exactly, it's a good thing Sister Zhang is protecting you guys, announcing a boycott against He Jinxia. Anyone who gives her a gig, JY won't work with them, smothering the arrogance of He Jinxia. Otherwise, she would be too conceited!"

Li Zimu said softly, "You've got it wrong, Sister Zhang didn't do that. And I don't know why the MV that was originally planned for Jinxia was canceled."

Someone stated with schadenfreude, "Who knows? With a body like He Jinxia's, even with good acting, she can't really play many roles. If she's cast in an MV, she can only play the vicious woman stealing a husband, or the pitiful ex-wife who gets abandoned. Just standing in front of the camera makes her look pathetic."

"Those who cast her are looking for that stark contrast, but He Jinxia is moody and has offended so many. Even if Sister Zhang didn't say anything, there are plenty of people ready to trip her up!"

"You're thinking too much. Those big shots don't bother to argue with a fatty like me, one who can't turn things around. My gigs were few to begin with, often insignificant roles. It's common to be replaced. If they really took it out on me, wouldn't it sound awful?"

He Jinxia's voice came through quietly, with a hint of mockery.

Everyone's expression changed slightly, and looking up, they saw He Jinxia standing at the doorway, lazily leaning against it, without knowing how long she had been there.

For a moment, the atmosphere grew quiet.

After a while, a member from a third-rate girl group spoke up with feigned toughness, "Who knows? It wouldn't be surprising if someone was out to get you. Also, how come you don't make a sound when you walk? Can't you knock first? Listening in on people's conversations!"

He Jinxia chuckled, "You deliberately left the door open and spoke so loudly that your voices echoed down the hallway. This isn't eavesdropping; it's openly listening in."

"You!" The woman stood up angrily, pointing at her: "That's rude eavesdropping! Don't you know to knock when entering someone's dorm room?"

He Jinxia made an "oh" sound, raised her hand, and knocked twice on the door, looking at them with a smile, "Now I've knocked."

"He Jinxia, don't go too far!"

Another woman couldn't hold back and stood up to say, "Yes, we admit we were wrong to talk behind your back, but you eavesdropped. We're even now, so you can leave."

He Jinxia raised an eyebrow and retorted, "What's the matter? You have the guts to talk bad about someone behind their back, but not the nerve to say it in front of me?"
