Chapter 414: Chapter 414: The Changes in Hell
Constantine dared not be careless at this moment. Considering the intricate schemes of a Hell Lord like Mephisto, if he succeeded, the entire Earth could be affected.
Additionally, the fact that Hell's demon lords were currently lying low unnerved Constantine. If ordinary demons were still sneaking through dimensional rifts to Earth, he might suspect Hell was brewing something even more terrifying.
Meanwhile, within the Hell Dimension, a terrifying storm was indeed brewing. The storm's creator was none other than Mephisto. Though the storm did not engulf the entire Hell Dimension, it affected a significant portion, and the entire dimension could faintly sense its turmoil.
Unlike the vast distances separating various strong beings or civilizations in the universe, the Hell Dimension was a unified whole. Mephisto, as a Hell Lord, had neighbors. As the first neighbor noticed Mephisto's uncharacteristic fury, the news quickly spread among the Hell Lords.
"Haha! Mephisto, what got you so worked up? Share the story and give us a good laugh."
"Exactly, I heard you went to Earth. What happened? Did you find some great opportunity there and get thwarted by that sorceress, the Ancient One?"
"Hahaha! Earth truly is a place of mystery. Who would have thought our renowned Mephisto would stumble there?"
Quickly, Beelzebub, Olivier, Hades, and other Hell Lords began to mock Mephisto. Normally, opportunities to taunt each other were rare, so they wouldn't miss this chance.
Had they known the full details of Mephisto's experiences, their taunts might have been even more pointed. Some Hell Lords even started sending minions to Earth to gather information on Mephisto's mishap, though with little success.
"Who says I'm angry?" Mephisto's expression remained unchanged, his aura gradually stabilizing as he sensed the familiar presences of his old rivals. "I discovered a promising candidate on Earth who became a Ghost Rider, able to move freely between Hell and Earth. Don't blame me if I claim Earth first and leave you nothing."
"Ghost Rider? The spirit of vengeance created by Yahweh to steal Hell's power like the fallen angels?" Beelzebub asked, surprise flickering in his eyes.
"We fallen angels didn't steal Hell's power! Don't compare us to those lesser spirits of vengeance!" Before Beelzebub could finish, the fallen angel Azazel interrupted angrily. Similar but distinct auras of other fallen angels rose throughout the Hell Dimension.
Hell Lords in the Hell Dimension had diverse origins. Some were death gods or ancient gods from various cosmic pantheons, some were naturally born from the Hell Dimension, and others were beings blessed by Hell. Then there were the infamous fallen angels.
Among the fallen angels, the most renowned was Lucifer Morningstar. However, there were many more fallen angels in Hell, enough to form their own faction.
Now, faced with Beelzebub's disdainful words, the fallen angels collectively took a stand. While they weren't always united, Beelzebub's remarks had lumped them all together, provoking their collective ire.
The fallen angels prided themselves on having chosen to align with Hell, unlike the spirits of vengeance who were specifically created to forge a deeper connection with Hell.
However, despite their numbers, the fallen angels couldn't dominate Hell alone. Had they been capable, they would have already become the Hell Dimension's rulers.
Most Hell Lords, though often at odds with each other, would unite against the fallen angels if they perceived a threat to their own positions.
"Heh, getting so excited over a Ghost Rider. You're embarrassing us Hell Lords!" Seeing the fallen angels' anger, Beelzebub threw a final remark and shut himself off, cutting off all outside views.
With Beelzebub diverting attention, the other Hell Lords lost interest in Mephisto's situation. They turned their attention away, now more amused by Beelzebub's predicament.
Mephisto silently thanked Beelzebub for deflecting attention. Of course, Mephisto had intended to use the mention of the Ghost Rider for this purpose, but Beelzebub's stupidity had made it easier.
"That Saiyan, and that Kryptonian..." Mephisto's thoughts turned to his encounter on Earth as he calmed down.
Robert had been an anticipated adversary, but encountering Clark had been unexpected. Without Clark, Mephisto wouldn't have been captured by Robert, nor would the Joker's Ghost Rider body have been destroyed.
Thus, the real culprit behind his failed plan was Clark, whom Mephisto knew nothing about. Mephisto pondered why Clark was so powerful.
As a well-informed Hell Lord, Mephisto had encountered Kryptonians before. However, a Kryptonian of Clark's strength was unheard of.
Even though Mephisto had only controlled the Joker's body, the tenacity of a Ghost Rider should have made it challenging for Robert to defeat quickly. Combined with Mephisto's own vast experience, he recognized that Clark's power rivaled, or perhaps even surpassed, that of the Ancient One.
This was just from the brief confrontation. The true extent of Clark's power was unknown, but even at this level, Mephisto realized he couldn't easily deal with Clark.
Even if Clark ventured into the Hell Dimension, Mephisto wasn't confident he could defeat him, especially if Clark had hidden reserves of strength.
"If that's the case, I can't handle this Kryptonian, and I can't deal with the Saiyan unless he comes to Hell. I'll have to swallow this humiliation," Mephisto thought, a flicker of unwillingness in his eyes. He took a deep breath, reminding himself that as a Hell Lord, he had endured worse and would eventually get his revenge.
"Next is my objective. Without the Joker's Ghost Rider body, I can't reach that place. How can I complete my plan? It's a complete subspace on Earth. If I can claim it, I'll gain further control over Earth's dimension," Mephisto mused, formulating a new plan.
At that moment, he sensed a familiar presence approaching—his son, Blackheart.
"Great father, revered Hell Lord, why do you seem troubled? Can your loyal son ease your worries?" Blackheart's obsequious voice rang out as he arrived.
"Get lost!" Mephisto's shout sent Blackheart flying, though it sparked a new plan in his mind.
"Damn it!" Blackheart muttered as he picked himself up, his face a mask of subservience. He couldn't show his frustration, or Mephisto might kill him. Being a Hell Lord's son might sound prestigious, but Blackheart was just one of many, and not particularly favored.
Crucially, though theoretically a Hell Lord's heir, Mephisto's lifespan was tied to the Hell Dimension, essentially eternal. Blackheart, despite having been a prince for countless years, had no real chance of inheriting the throne, unlike someone like Loki, who at least had a more defined path.
With burning anger in his heart but a fawning smile on his face, Blackheart returned to his territory amidst the mocking gazes of other demons.
Aside from being Mephisto's son, Blackheart was also a demon lord, albeit with a small and somewhat pathetic faction compared to other demon lords.
This was why Blackheart sought Mephisto's favor. He yearned for more power, to be a true Hell Lord, to rule over his domain as a real emperor.
As a demon, ambition was a given. Blackheart was full of it but lacked the opportunities and power to match.
"If only I could become a Hell Lord..." Blackheart muttered as he returned to his territory. Just then, Earth Demon appeared beside him.
"My lord, I have good news!" Earth Demon said, his tone fawning.
"Good news? What is it?" Blackheart asked impatiently, his mood sour.
"I found a way to Earth!" Earth Demon said excitedly.
Blackheart slapped Earth Demon into the ground. "You think I don't know about the dimensional rift to Earth? Everyone does. How does that help me, a demon lord, get there?"
"No, my lord. This passage allows you to enter Earth! It requires some sacrifice, but Wind Demon can bear the cost to bring you through!" Earth Demon persisted, not minding the slap.
"Really? This could be my chance to gain power, to absorb souls and grow stronger..." Blackheart's eyes gleamed with excitement.
"I have more good news, my lord!" Earth Demon added, seizing the moment.
"Speak!" Blackheart ordered.
"I know of a secret contract on Earth, the San Venganza Contract. If obtained, it grants control over a complete subspace on Earth, making its holder a lord!" Earth Demon explained. "With this, you can become a true lord and leave this territory behind."
"A lord on Earth?!" Blackheart's eyes shone brighter. What he had hoped for was merely to grow stronger, but this opportunity promised so much more.
"Call Wind Demon and Water Demon. We're going to Earth immediately!" Blackheart commanded, too enticed by the prospect to question Earth Demon's sources. He was determined to act before other demon lords caught wind of this chance.
