Supergirl Defender Of Love

Chapter 23: The Goblin Is That Fragile

Kara strolled through the bustling streets of New York, arms stretched lazily behind her head as she enjoyed the rare moment of peace. The weather was perfect, the company was… well, entertaining, if nothing else. On one side, Natasha walked with her usual composed grace, subtly ensuring she was always within arm's reach of Kara. On the other, Gwen stalked beside her, arms crossed, shooting occasional glares at the fourth member of their group—Wanda Maximoff, who was casually floating a few inches above the ground as if walking was beneath her.

Kara raised a brow, tilting her head toward Wanda. "You're not gonna walk with us?"

Wanda smirked, twirling her fingers slightly as her Chaos Magic flickered beneath her hands, keeping her aloft. "I find floating far more efficient than walking."

Kara chuckled, nodding. "Oh, I know that feeling so well. Flying is the best. But teleporting is even better."

Wanda arched a brow, intrigued. "Teleporting?"

Kara grinned, slowing her pace. "Yeah, my new power upgrades let me teleport. And not just myself—I can bring others with me now."

Natasha, ever tactical, immediately locked onto that information. "So, theoretically, you could take us anywhere instantly?"

Kara shrugged. "Pretty much."

Gwen, still not thrilled about Wanda being here, snorted. "And you're just now telling us this?"

Kara laughed. "It never came up."

Natasha's eyes flickered with contemplation. "That's… an incredibly useful ability."

Wanda hummed, clearly fascinated. "You'll have to show me sometime."

Kara smirked. "Oh, I will."

Gwen rolled her eyes, clearly annoyed that Wanda had just seamlessly integrated herself into Kara's good graces. "Great. Next, she'll probably ask you to carry her around like a princess."

Wanda smirked, floating a little closer to Kara. "Would you, Kara?"

Kara laughed, nudging Wanda's shoulder. "Only if you ask nicely."

Natasha and Gwen both tensed. Wanda's smirk widened.

The game had begun.

They had been walking for a while, making casual conversation—well, as casual as it could be with Gwen and Wanda subtly throwing verbal daggers at each other—when Natasha's phone buzzed. She pulled it out, scanning the screen, and sighed.

"Well," she muttered, pocketing the device. "Guess what, Kara?"

Kara glanced over. "What?"

"If I had to guess," Natasha continued, "I'd say the Green Goblin is currently at the Queensboro Bridge, threatening a tram full of kids and Mary Jane Watson."

Kara raised a brow. "Oh?"

Natasha smirked. "I mean, if I were a lunatic with a glider and a bad case of daddy issues, that's exactly what I'd do. Everyone knows Spider-Man is obsessed with Mary Jane Watson."

Wanda chuckled. "Villains really need to start being more creative."

Kara sighed dramatically. "And here I was, enjoying my day."

Natasha smirked. "What, you're not gonna do anything about it?"

Kara stretched her arms over her head. "Eh, I dunno. Peter's got it."

Gwen blinked. "Wait, Peter? Who's Peter?"

Kara immediately realized her mistake and covered it with a dismissive wave. "Oh, nobody. Just a nickname I came up with for Spider-Man. You know, because he looks like a Peter."

Natasha raised a brow but didn't push. Gwen remained suspicious. Wanda, however, looked vaguely amused, but it was impossible to tell if she actually believed her.

Another explosion rocked the air.

Kara sighed, rubbing her temples. "Okay, now he's just being annoying."

Natasha crossed her arms. "So, you're stepping in?"

Kara exhaled through her nose. "Yeah, fine. But I swear, if he starts monologuing…"

She placed a hand on Natasha's shoulder, another on Gwen's, and then—without warning—grabbed Wanda's wrist. Before any of them could react, the air around them distorted, bent, and then snapped as Kara teleported them all in an instant.

The Queensboro Bridge was chaos. Flames engulfed the suspension cables, smoke billowed into the sky, and Spider-Man was mid-swing, desperately trying to stop the Green Goblin from dropping Mary Jane and a tram full of kids.

Kara appeared at the edge of the bridge, her companions staggering slightly from the abrupt teleportation. Natasha barely flinched, quickly regaining her composure. Gwen looked mildly disoriented. Wanda, however, blinked in surprise before grinning.

"Well," she murmured. "That was exhilarating."

Kara ignored them, placing her hands on her hips as she scanned the scene. "Yep. Called it. He's got the girlfriend and the innocent civilians. Very predictable."

Gwen, still adjusting, frowned. "You're really just gonna stand here and watch?"

Kara shrugged. "What? Peter's got it."

Natasha sighed. "You really enjoy making him suffer, don't you?"

Kara grinned. "A little."

They watched as Spider-Man desperately swung toward the tram, his movements precise but strained. The Green Goblin hovered above him, cackling as he taunted the young hero.

"THIS IS YOUR CHOICE, SPIDER-MAN!" Goblin's voice boomed. "THE WOMAN YOU LOVE, OR THE INNOCENT LIVES OF—"

Kara groaned. "Oh, my God, does he ever shut up?"

Wanda smirked. "You could always intervene."

Kara crossed her arms. "Mmm… nah. Not yet."

Natasha smirked. "You just want to see how this plays out, don't you?"

Kara grinned. "Maybe."

Gwen threw her hands up. "You people are insane."

They continued watching, the tension in the air thick. Kara tilted her head, following Spider-Man's movements, tracking the Goblin's erratic flying patterns.

Then, just as Goblin started preparing another bomb—

Kara bent down, picked up a small rock, and tossed it lightly into the air.

Wanda blinked. "What are you—"

Kara flicked her wrist.

The rock vanished from sight.

For a moment, nothing happened.

Then—CRACK.

The Green Goblin's glider jerked violently midair, the force of impact snapping metal, sending the machine into a wild spiral.

Goblin's cackling turned into a strangled scream as the glider lost control, spinning downward in an uncontrollable freefall.

Spider-Man, still swinging toward the tram, whipped his head around in pure confusion.

"What the hell—?!"

The Goblin plummeted.

Falling.

Falling.

Falling.

And then—THUD.

Silence.

The bridge fell still. Even the wind seemed to pause.

Spider-Man, still mid-air, stared in complete disbelief.

Kara dusted off her hands. "Welp."

Natasha arched a brow. "Did you just—"

Gwen blinked. "You threw a rock at him?"

Wanda grinned. "I think I love her."

Kara stretched her arms. "Not my fault he's fragile."

Spider-Man, still hanging onto the tram for dear life, looked down at the very dead Norman Osborn. Then he slowly turned his gaze toward Kara, eyes wide with absolute horror.

Kara smirked. "Hey, good job with the kids. You handled that well."

And with that, she grabbed her group and teleported away, leaving Spider-Man to figure out how to explain this to everyone else.
