Chapter 1164: Seeing Through Nathan
"!!!" Everyone couldn't help but widen their eyes in shock.
Both the left and right guardians stepped forward, exuding their energy.
"How dare you use an ability in front of the emperor!"
"An outsider…"
Evelyn also released her energy, ready for a full-blown clash.
Yet, Nathan and the emperor remained staring at each other; their expressions hadn't changed even in the slightest.
Nathan, although surprised, noticed one important thing. Not planning to play dumb, Nathan asked, "Are you not going to stop them?"
"You—!" The left guardian's anger erupted. Nathan's words became casual, which could be seen as rudeness to the emperor.
Fortunately, the emperor raised his hand with a gentle smile on his face. "I guess I should. You were able to remain calm the whole time… It's amazing."
Nathan sighed before saying, "If you had planned to do something, you would have prepared something. Instead, you are bringing us to a courtyard like this, away from guards and other magical energy. You should know that I'm able to leave if I want to."
The emperor's smile grew bigger.
That smile made Nathan a bit more curious about the emperor. "May I ask a question?"
"Be respectful!" The left guardian gritted his teeth.
The emperor suddenly turned around, stating in a cold tone. "You should be the one to be respectful. He's not the subject of my dynasty. With this kind of power, we don't know who the other party is or their status. If it happens to be another sovereign in a foreign land, what will you do?"
The left guardian froze. "I… don't mean…"
"Don't interrupt our conversation."
The left guardian looked down. "Yes, my apologies."
Nathan was amused. Although the emperor wasn't as strong as the left guardian, he managed to control the left guardian completely. The person in front of him was definitely not an ordinary sovereign. His strength in court might even be more powerful than Julius'.
"So, what is your question?" The emperor's face turned calm again.
"Since when have you figured out my identity?" Nathan asked.
"At first, I only had some suspicions. The cloud-repelling device. It's good. It's something we have never seen on this continent.
"It might be called an innovation, but I told you earlier that my eyes are capable of seeing through things, even if it's an illusion with divinity.
"I can see something special in that iron ball. Then, there was a presence of fear from across the sea a few days ago.
"Once I was able to see you, I finally confirmed my suspicion."
"I see…" Nathan closed his eyes. 'The presence of fear from across the sea, huh? I have heard of Cthulhu being able to do such a thing. Maybe it's because we were near him that we didn't notice it? Or maybe we had been frozen from the fear that we failed to sense it?
'Nevertheless, the emperor is truly extraordinary. I really can't underestimate him, but it's quite surprising that he's not arrogant or anything. Never mind. It's just my prejudice…'
"Then, I suppose I should be asking you… or maybe this guest here to show herself?" The emperor glanced at the empty space next to Nathan.
"…" There was an awkward silence, but Nathan waved his hand, signaling Mae. The latter acknowledged his order and dispelled her illusion.
The guardians were shocked. Although both of them were able to sense ena from his body, the emperor was able to see through the form of that ena.
"Well, I want to ask one more of your friends to come down, but I guess that's not possible." The emperor was clearly implying that he was aware of Jinwu's existence.
Nathan remained silent before saying, "Just like how you are unable to have both gentlemen leave this place, I, too, have something that I can't agree to."
"Indeed." The emperor nodded. "I have heard about your reason for coming here. The Death Society… Although I can guess what had happened, may I hear the complete story from you?
"There's no need to be shy anymore. I know you are using an illusion so that your lips match the way we talk. However, I could see the whole time how your lips have been moving differently. Although I don't know how you're able to do it, it's fine not to use the illusion anymore."
Nathan thought for a moment before nodding his head. "I understand. I will speak in that way. It won't change anyway."
"!!!" Other people finally saw how Noel's lips didn't match with the words he spoke.
"Rather than from me, I believe you should hear it from the person who is greatly affected by their existence." Nathan glanced to the side.
Evelyn was surprised, but since Nathan had chosen to give that opportunity to him, she nodded her head and opened her mouth. "It all happened a few years ago…"
Evelyn recounted the story to the emperor. They had never thought that the Death Society had caused such devastation on their continent.
"I see… To think that the purge would actually harm another continent. Looks like both the empire and the dynasty owe you an explanation…" The emperor sighed.
"It doesn't matter. As long as we get the information about them, we will kill them ourselves."
"Do you think you can do it? Although they have been severely weakened, they are still not an opponent that the two of you can easily take on."
"Of course, but I believe we can do it." Evelyn believed that Nathan could find a way to defeat their enemy, just like how they managed to defeat the Divine Hand.
The emperor contemplated before turning to Nathan. "Still, I don't think someone like you comes here just for revenge that is not affecting you directly."
"I do have my own goals, but they're not something that needs to be disclosed."
"Hoh?" The emperor squinted his eyes. "Then, humor me with this one question. Are you going to harm the dynasty?"
The emperor's voice became chilly all of a sudden. His face darkened, his gaze almost emitting killing intent.
"That's…" Nathan's expression turned solemn.
