Chapter 2302: Preparation by Both Sides

Joseph Cooper was sitting cross-legged inside the camp tent, his gaze fell on his trusted follower and he said: "Has the army recovered its combat strength?"

"Reporting to the Marshal, the 220,000 generals and soldiers of our clan that were sent back this time did not suffer mistreatment from the opposing side. After coming back, they just need to rest for a day to fully recover. I have already integrated them into the various armies, and they are ready to fight!"

Joseph Cooper frowned and said, "Strange, is the opposing general a fool?"

"Does the Marshal suspect a trap?"

Nodding and then shaking his head, Joseph Cooper said, "That's the perplexing part. In a normal situation, they would have some tricks regarding the exchange. At the very least, they should cut off the thumbs to prevent them from wielding weapons again, yet the 220,000 they sent back have no such issues."

"Is that why the Marshal didn't cut off the thumbs of your captives?"

"Exactly. Originally, I intended to cut off their thumbs, but after seeing that the returned soldiers had no such interference, I refrained. Besides, those we imprisoned have been starved for such a long time, even if they were sent back, they would be unusable in the short term. We will soon battle with them again and capture them back."

He continued to frown and ponder.

"Marshal, it's not a big deal. After all, the return of 220,000 soldiers increases our total army to more than 1.3 million, plenty to defeat the enemy. What can any conspiracy achieve?"

Joseph Cooper's frown relaxed, nodding as he smiled, "Maybe I overthought, you're right. As long as these soldiers can fight for me, that's enough."

"What the Marshal says is true. Those returned soldiers are full of fighting spirit, and this battle will certainly destroy the enemy in one go!"

"Tomorrow, fully attack Ling Distant City!"

As Joseph Cooper prepared for the siege, Peter Brown was also contemplating the upcoming battle.

The situation now stirred Peter's emotions, not expecting it to turn out this way. With the late emperor's passing and Prince Samuel's ascension, a civil war erupted. In this situation, none of the princes cared about the ordinary people's lives, and the chaos led to their inevitable suffering.

Sighing inwardly, Peter knew he could rely on no one but his own strength.

Does Joseph Cooper think he can break through my Ling Distant City with his 1.3 million troops?

Peter smirked silently.

"Have our soldiers recovered?" Peter casually asked.

"Reporting to the General, everything's fine now. After modifications, everyone's recovery is very quick, and now each one is ready to fight. The veterans are teaching the formations, and quite a few have grasped them already. Another night, and they should all be ready."

The benefit of the Genetic Soldiers is the limitless vigor, leaving Peter with no concern about their rest.

Nodding slightly, Peter said, "I'll give you another day."

Looking at his Elixir Sea, Peter's heart brimmed with joy. Since becoming a Baron, he found his Elixir Sea loosening more and more, with energy pouring out in abundance, reshaping his body.

Peter's body differed from ordinary people, and this transformation couldn't be completed with Gene Medicine alone. He needed to restore his former abilities using the sealed energy within his Elixir Sea.

Unknowingly, the next day's sunlight was already shining over Ling Distant City as Peter stood on the city wall, looking at the distant enemy camp.

Suddenly, Peter's eyes sharpened, muttering to himself, "It seems the siege is starting!"

Then he spoke to the generals beside him, "Order everyone except the newly joined soldiers to enter the city walls."

As Peter finished setting up, the Foreign Tribe's attack commenced in full force.

"Attack!"

Both sides issued commands.

With the orders given, both sides fully engaged in the city capture battle.

Peter did not place much importance on this day's siege. He needed time for the newly recruited troops to train and master the formations.

As time passed, both sides suffered considerable casualties in this city siege battle.

After a few hours of attacks, Joseph Cooper helplessly found that his army failed to capture the city.

A day passed just like that.

After returning to the camp, Peter was briefed by the accompanying generals about the events of the siege battle.

Difficult as it was, Peter's side lost nearly 10,000 men, with nearly 10,000 more heavily injured. However, the opposing side suffered 60,000 casualties, making Peter's losses seem significant in this siege battle.

"General, the Foreign Tribe Army, including the severely injured, should have lost 100,000 men!"

The general was pleased; such results were exceptionally favorable. In such fierce fighting, losing 20,000 was standard.

"Are the recruits ready for battle?" Peter was most concerned about this.

"General, they're ready to fight!"

"Very well, tomorrow when they come to besiege the city, we'll charge with the entire army!"

Peter's eyes grew distant, and thinking of tomorrow's battle filled his mouth with a slight smile.

After looking at the situation within his Elixir Sea, Peter was even more delighted. With enough energy now, he could refine some talismans, which would give him greater confidence in the battle tomorrow.

Thinking of this, Peter moved some pre-prepared materials into a heavily guarded courtyard and started refining some talismans there.

It's a pity the talisman-making equipment stored in his Elixir Sea couldn't be used. Otherwise, he could have used machinery to make talismans!

Peter felt somewhat helpless.

Even so, by the end of the day, there were over a hundred talismans in front of Peter. These were fire talismans which could burn an area with a ten-zhang radius each; with a hundred talismans, the front enemy forces would suffer heavy losses.

Thinking of the Genetic Soldiers he sent back, Peter planned to command them to retreat a bit before deploying these talismans.

Alright, everything's nearly ready!

Peter amused himself; his strength was indeed sufficient, yet he still took such care.

As the next day arrived again, Peter stationed just 10,000 men on the city walls, while the others were concentrated at the city gate.

By then, the distant Foreign Tribe Army began assembling, indicating another grand battle was about to begin.
