Chapter 296: Necessary Cruelty
"I'm really curious about what this Cersai guy did to you for him to do all this as an apology. The drinks and food in the fridge could last us for a year at least, and they're all really expensive! I think I even saw caviar in there."
Gina spoke up with a beautiful smile while coming over to stand beside Jason. Jason ran his hand over her smooth thigh and wide hips as she folded a leg under her body and gently sat on the couch beside him, and he put his hand around her shoulder as she leaned into his body. Gina put the sandwich and juice on the table in front of them, and she turned and stole a deep kiss from Jason! Jason leaned into the kiss while running his hand through her hair, and he let out a small sigh when they separated.
"I fucking missed you, Gina."
Gina's cheeks grew slightly red when she heard the sincerity in Jason's words, and she wrapped her hand around his waist and buried her head in the crook of his neck.
"I missed you too, babe. I don't know how it's possible, but when I died, I could feel you from the other side. It felt like a part of me was still with you, and I knew you were fighting for me. It meant everything to me."
Jason smiled as he placed a kiss on Gina's head, and the two of them stayed that way for a few seconds before Jason let out another calm sigh as he finally leaned back. Jason glanced at the system tab above Gina's head, and he looked at her hierarchy progression once again.
[21%]
At the rate she was growing, Jason knew that it wouldn't be long before he could promote her to a Rook Rank II. Gina was the only member of his Legion that gained more than twenty percent in such a short fight, so Jason was sure that two or three more battles of the same intensity would push her over the edge.. Jason turned towards the Radagan soldier in front of him again, and Gina looked towards the soldier curiously while still resting her head on Jason's shoulder, and she asked Jason how far he had gone with his planning. Jason gave Gina the abridged version of the information he got from his subordinate while leaning forward to grab one of the sandwiches. Jason took a bite while Gina watched him closely, and Gina's face beamed in a happy smile when she saw his pleased expression once he tasted the sandwich! Gina knew that she wasn't the best cook in the world, but the fact that the man she loved was enjoying the food she made meant everything to her! Jason laughed when he saw the smile on Gina's face, and he continued to eat while explaining his plans.
Gina listened attentively to everything Jason was saying, and when Jason finally got to the part where the soldier told him the King of Radagan was still alive, her eyes widened in surprise!
'Riyala's father is alive?'
Gina spoke up through their mental link, and Jason nodded. Gina suddenly asked Jason if he was going to tell Riyala, and Jason shook his head. Gina was surprised by Jason's decision. She knew Riyala would be overjoyed to learn that her father was alive, so she couldn't really understand why Jason didn't want to tell her yet. Jason explained calmly.
'Riyala already believes that her entire family left her once. If I tell her that there is a chance her father is alive, she might end up doing something stupid when we're attacking Radagan just to try and rescue him. What we're going into isn't a regular Gate battle; it's a revolution. Riyala needs to be there since she's the princess, so I'll need her to keep a level head and play her part properly without worrying about anything else. Besides, we don't know if her father is still alive at this moment. They could have killed him sometime in the last few hours, and we'll just be giving Riyala false hope if we told her he was alive now.'
Gina hummed in understanding when she got the explanation. That was something that Gina had never even taken into account. Jason wasn't just going into Radagan to kill the Sovereign; he was going there to try and overturn a military government! Gina had no idea that Jason had already begun plotting such a complicated battle in his head. Gina knew that Jason was smart, but it was almost like Jason had gained even more wisdom in the short time since she last saw him! Honestly, Gina still thought it was cruel for them not to tell Riyala about her father, especially since Gina had seen the grief on Riyala's face whenever she was talking about her family, but Gina knew that this was the best decision in the long run. If Jason's plan was going to work, then they needed Riyala to be as level-headed as possible.
Gina smiled as she leaned over to kiss Jason, and Jason leaned closer in anticipation, but he was surprised when Gina suddenly shifted her head a little and took a bite out of his sandwich instead! Jason gave Gina a dirty look of betrayal, but he couldn't help but laugh when he saw Gina grinning at him with some lettuce sticking out from her mouth! Jason pecked Gina's pouting lips before he gave her the sandwich and allowed her to eat as his mind went back to the conversation he was having with the Radagan soldier. It was surprising that the Radagan king was still alive, but that just made things easier for him in the long run. At least now Jason was sure of how he would handle Radagan's government after the battle, and the only thing left was to discuss the military tactics that Radagan used. Jason called on all the Radagan soldiers in his Legion and all six of them stood before him respectfully. Grinot was the highest-ranking soldier out of all of them, and he stood in front of the others as he began giving out his explanations.
The Radagan military worked in different ways depending on how serious a situation was. Whenever there was a battle that didn't require a lot of soldiers or dragons, then the Imperial Guards would be the ones to go and handle things. There were various Imperial Guard captains, and each one of them led a group of five to ten soldiers. This gave them enough firepower to handle most bandits and terrorists in the kingdom. There were also various Imperial Guard outposts all around Radagan, so whenever there was an issue, an Imperial Guard would usually be close by, and this allowed them to be the first to respond. If there was a larger battle that required more soldiers, then the Sovereign would send out the Royal Army Generals. There were ten generals in the Royal Army, and each one of them had command over twenty Royal Army members that were divided into four regiments with five members each! Grinot was the Regiment Commander for one of the four regiments under a Royal Army General known as Jaraht. The General overseeing him was an SS Rank, and he was known as the Flaming Fist for his prodigal-level skills as a brawler.
The number of Royal Army Generals sent out to any battle would depend on how serious the situation was, and there were some situations that weren't serious enough to require a General, so they would send out Regiment Commanders instead.
