Chapter 295: A Surprising Revelation
The second branch of the military are the Imperial Guards. These are the main military forces that are responsible for protecting Radagan and fighting against enemies that want to attack them. The Imperial Guards also possess dragons and wyverns, but unlike the Rogues, they are allowed to use their dragon fire whenever they want, and they are also given authority over the actions of common civilians or Rogues. The Imperial Guards are the ones who you call on if there is ever a bandit attack or an attack from terrorists.
Finally, the third and most important part of the military were the members of the Royal Army. The Royal Army are the strongest of all the dragon and wyvern riders in Radagan, and being a member is seen as the most prestigious position that anyone would ever attain in the military! The amount of tests and military accomplishments you would need just to reach that level was absurd! The Royal Army was in charge of protecting the Radagan royal family and carrying out the orders of the King, and every word or action carried out by a member of the Royal Army was seen as a word or action performed by the King himself.
Jason's elbows were resting on his knees as he listened to the words from the Radagan soldier, and he frowned slightly after hearing about the three branches. Jason remembered the conversation he had with Riyala before and how she told him that the Sovreign had attacked her family just before her father was sworn in as the King. Wouldn't the Royal Army have stopped something like that if they were so good? The only way the Royal Army wouldn't be able to stop it was if…
"The Soverign was a member of the Royal Army?"
'Yes, my King. He was once the leader of the Royal Army of Radagan.'
The Radagan soldier answered respectfully when Jason asked this question, and Jason hummed as he finally began to form a proper image of the situation in his mind. So that was how the Sovreign managed to get so many soldiers to go against the King for him? The Sovereign already had the trust of the soldiers since he was the leader of the strongest army, and all he had to do was get one or two of them to spread the rumor that the King was weak and they needed to take power from him. Once you have enough people believing your propaganda, it would be easy to sway people's opinions. And since the Royal Army was the strongest, there was nothing the Imperial Guards or the Rogues could do. They had no choice but to fall in line and do as they were told.
"So does that mean that some of the Rogues and Imperial Guards were against the Sovreign's actions? Was there some sort of revolution?"
Jason directed this question towards the Radagan soldier while leaning his chin against one hand. Jason knew that defeating the Sovreign wasn't the end goal of this entire situation. Jason wanted to make sure that there were no more enemies on Radagan that would attack Earth, so Jason needed to be sure that there was no one who would rise up as the next Sovreign if this one was killed! Killing one enemy just to have another one appear from the ashes was only going to create annoying problems!
And since Jason had no intention of killing every single person in Radagan, the best way to be sure that there wouldn't be any more enemies was if there was some sort of revolution that opposed the Sovereign. If there was a revolution and they had a leader, then Jason could use the leader to keep the other civilians under control.
The Radagan soldier shook his head at Jason's question, and Jason hummed in disappointment when he realised that there was no revolution, but the soldier suddenly spoke up.
'There is no revolution, but that does not mean the people of Radagan are all in support of the Sovreign's rule. The Sovreign's main power comes from his relationship and control over the military. It allowed him to take over the entire kingdom in only one night, and that display of power made it difficult for anyone to question him. But there are still many people, both civilians and military, as well as the members of the noble families, who do not believe that the Soverign deserves his throne since the previous King gave the throne to the Wyvernrider family. That is why the Soverign sent us to Earth to retrieve the princess. He believes that the only way to cement his position is by killing every single member of the royal family.'
Jason ran a hand over his jaw with a sigh. That was a good amount of information, and the image in Jason's mind began to take on a more vivid tone, but it also raised a lot more questions. Jason's plan to use a revolution was already out the window, but now Jason had another plan in mind.
"It might be a good idea to put Riyla in as the new ruler since the people are backing her. But I don't know if that's a good idea. Riyla is soft-hearted, so it might be hard for her to rule right after a coup just ended. If only the King were still alive. That would've been a better substitute."
Jason's thoughts were running wild as he contemplated all the actions he would need to take, but the Radagan soldier suddenly spoke up in the middle of Jason's thoughts.
'Actually, my King… the former King of Radagan is still alive.'
Jason blinked in shock and looked up at his subordinate.
"What do you mean he's alive? Didn't the Soverign kill everyone in the royal family?"
The Radagan soldier shook his head and began to explain.
'The Soverign only told the people that he killed the King, but the high-ranking members of the military know that the King is actually alive in the dungeons. The Soverign is keeping the King alive because there is a special key that he needs if he wants to access the kingdom's treasury, and only the former King has that key. The Soverign is torturing the King every day just to get his hand on that key.'
Jason let out a calm sigh at the new information, and he turned to the side as he heard footsteps coming towards the living room. Gina had finally finished the meal, and she was walking over with a plate of sandwiches in one hand and a large cup of juice in the other. The light coming from outside the window illuminated Gina's perfect figure and made her skin glow like something angelic, and Jason couldn't stop his eyes from travelling over his girlfriend's body! Jason released a small sigh as he felt himself reacting to Gina's body! If not for the fact that he was doing something important right now, Jason knew that he would have bent Gina over and taken her all over again!
"Hey, babe. Turns out the fridge was packed with chicken and turkey, so we're in luck. I'm really curious about what this Cersai guy did to you for him to do all this as an apology. The drinks and food in the fridge could last us for a year at least, and they're all really expensive! I think I even saw caviar in there."
Gina spoke up with a beautiful smile while coming over to stand beside Jason, and Jason huffed in amusement.
