Chapter 50: Walking Into a Trap
[Rural Region of the Fourth District]
In one of the dilapidated houses in the fourth district, Silas Brown walked out of his office and moved quickly towards the building exit! There was a look of pure fury on his face as he made his way forward, and all the men in the building with him knew better than to get in his way at that moment! In the underworld, Silas was known as the freelance cleaner. He was one of the best killers in the entire city that wasn't already tied to one family or another, and he was known for selling his services to the highest bidder whenever possible.
Recently, Silas had been working with the Bellagrini family. The Bellagrini had contacted him and asked him to take out one of the Lucas warehouses, and Silas had never been happier than when he heard the news, since he knew that this would be the start of another war between the families! Wars were the bread and butter of Silas' entire business, and it was during wartime that he would make the most money since many people would want to work with him. Silas had easily gotten an informant in the Lucas family to give him the perfect time and location for planting the bomb, and the entire plan went off without a hitch. But there was one problem that Silas did not predict, and that was Dante Lucas. Silas had launched the attack on the Lucas warehouse because he believed that Fredrick Lucas was going to become the next boss! Even though Fredrick was a capable lawyer, everyone knew that he was not the sort of person suited to being the next boss! Fredrick didn't have the ruthlessness that his father did in his younger years, and the Bellagrini would have had a much better chance against the Lucas if Fredrick had become the boss!
But things had gone to shit the moment they found out that it wasn't Fredrick who had taken the position of boss! It was Dante! There couldn't have been worse news to hit the city at that moment! It was like saying the devil himself would become the new mayor of the city, and they would all have to deal with him every single day! There weren't many people that Silas would say he was afraid of in this life, but the one person that had managed to really put the fear of god into him was Dante. Dante was a ruthless monster, and in the few times that they had run into each other on the battlefield, Dante was the only person who came very close to killing Silas!
So when Silas heard that Dante had gone ahead to kill all his men who were involved in the attack on the Lucas warehouse, he wasn't even surprised. In fact, he had already expected it! Unlike Fredrick, Dante was not the sort of person to discuss or use diplomacy for anything! If the Lucas family were a gun pointed at your head, then Dante was the bullet. He would shoot you first and then ask questions later!
Silas had already been making plans on how to get out of the city now that he knew Dante was going to be part of this war, but he was shocked when he heard from one of his men that their mole had come here! They had been working with the District boss known as Randy, and Silas had already paid this fool, so what the hell was he doing here!?
Bang!
Silas banged the door of the building open roughly, and his eyes narrowed into a glare when he saw Randy leaning against his car with bloodstains all over him. There was a bullet wound on his shoulder, and he was holding it tight as he looked up at Silas.
"Silas, you've gotta help me. Those bastards. They know I helped you, and they came to my house. They wanted to kill me!"
Silas felt a curse escape from him, and he looked down the street to the side to try and see if there was any sign of dust! Once he was sure that there weren't any cars coming in their direction, he stormed towards Randy and grabbed him by the shirt before lifting him up roughly! Randy screamed as his bullet wound was shifted uncomfortably, but Silas ignored him and seethed in his face!
"What happened?"
"My shoulder. You're fucking killing me—"
"Just shut up and tell me what happened!?"
"Okay! Okay! T-Those bastards came to my house! They tried to kill me, but I managed to escape! The Lucas already know that I helped you, so I couldn't go anywhere else! I had to come here!"
"You fucking idiot!"
Silas threw Randy back, and Randy slammed into his car roughly! Silas couldn't believe how stupid this fool was! Did he think that Dante was an idiot! Did he really think that someone as stupid as him would be capable of escaping from Dante!?
"You didn't escape from anyone, you fool! They let you go! They let you go because they knew you were too stupid to know the difference, and now you've led them straight to me!"
Silas grabbed a gun from behind his back, and Randy's eyes widened in shock when Silas pointed it at his head!
"Wait! Wait!"
Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!
Four shots rang out, and Randy slouched and fell over lifelessly! Silas turned to one of the men at the side and told him to get rid of both the body and the car, and he shouted to the other men around him!
"Gather all the weapons and drugs and move them into the boxes! Call the Bellagrini and tell them to send us reinforcement! Once the shipment comes later today, we're leaving here! Gerald, Harry, you two take five men each and patrol the area! If you see anything that looks out of place, let me know immediately!"
The men all began to move quickly once they had their orders and Silas put his hand to his face and sighed as he looked up at the sky. He couldn't believe this fool actually brought that bastard Dante to his fucking doorstep. Silas had been trying to avoid Dante all this time, but it was obvious that he could no longer do that! Silas let out a small growl, but eh forced himself to calm down when he remembered that there was someone here that could help him. A man that called himself a magician was currently in Silas' warehouse and he had come here to collect a special package that would arrive later that day. This was good. Even though Silas thought the man was a lunatic for calling himself a magician, there was no denying that the man was strong! If Silas could use the man when Dante comes, then he would have nothing to fear! He just had to be ready for when he comes! Dante was still human, no matter how powerful he looked, and any human would die when you shoot a bullet into their fucking head!
....
[The Second District]
[The Lucas Hall]
Fredrick Lucas didn't really know how to feel about what happened over the past few days. Things had been moving so quickly and so much had happened that Fredrick had become a little lost in the midst of all the madness, and now, for some reason, he was sitting in the back of a limo as he made his way towards a stakeholders' dinner that his half-brother had forced him to attend. A surge of anger rose from Fredrick's heart when that thought went through his mind, but the anger only lasted for a few seconds before it was replaced with some relief and finally, a sense of calmness. Fredrick Lucas really didn't know how to feel. On one hand, Fredrick was angry; he was angry at his father for overlooking him in the right of succession, and he was also angry at his half-brother for taking away what was rightfully his. Fredrick had gone from the heir-apparent to just another member of the family in less than a day, and it had been almost too much for him to comprehend! But on the other hand, Fredrick was grateful.
People didn't know the truth about Fredrick. Whenever people looked at him, they saw a straight-laced student who always wanted to be the best. Fredrick had always been the perfect child right from when he was young. He got the highest grades in school, he learned the most about the family business, and he even got into Harvard and studied law under the best teachers there were! Fredrick was heading his own branch of the Lucas Corp enterprise, and he was seen as one of the fastest-growing managers in the entire company! He was perfect at everything! But there was one thing that Fredrick could never really get used to.
