Chapter 161: Chapter 161: White Hole Harvest
At Feng Mo's command, Han Peipei entered the code to unlock the Orca's engines, and it shot toward the northern space station like an arrow released from a bow.
"Report: Orca is fully operational. Hull structure is stable, all weapons are online, corridors are intact, and navigation is steady—no anomalies detected!"
With the reports pouring in, Feng Mo let out a long breath. After six months of intense work by dozens of starship engineers and hundreds of builders, the Orca was finally a success.
Feng Mo had sacrificed sleep and comfort, living on mental supplements and spending every waking moment overseeing the Orca's construction. This was a historic moment—a monumental step forward from T4 to T5 capabilities for his entire domain.
With all tests successfully completed, Feng Mo stood up in the control room and addressed everyone:
"Everyone, let's head back. Promotions and bonuses are on the way, and for our hero Alisa—unlimited snacks!"
A cheer erupted. As they prepared to return, Alisa timidly tugged at Feng Mo's sleeve and asked, "Commander, I don't need unlimited snacks. Could I ask you for something else instead?"
Feng Mo raised an eyebrow. This was the first time Alisa had made a personal request, so he composed himself and nodded seriously. "Tell me. As long as it's not overboard, consider it done. Unlimited snacks included!"
Alisa's face lit up with a sweet smile. "I knew the Commander was the best! I want to let a few of my kin enroll in the highest-grade military academy you founded. May I?"
Feng Mo nodded. This wasn't an unreasonable request, though the academy bore high expectations. Named after the Storm Fleet, this university had rigorous standards, requiring thorough background checks and entrance exams.
With close to twenty billion inhabitants across his territories, the academy only accepted a thousand students each year—the very best of the best. Yet, Alisa had contributed enormously; turning down her request would dampen her well-earned enthusiasm.
"I'll give you three spots. You can choose whoever you like. Happy with that?"
While playfully pinching Alisa's cheek, Feng Mo laughed, and she beamed in response. Three slots were enough. As a member of the Star Dwarf race and Feng Mo's trusted confidante, she felt an obligation to give back to her people.
With a delighted Alisa on her way, Feng Mo finally returned to his quarters, where exhaustion overwhelmed him. He collapsed onto his bed, soon lulled into sleep by a gentle snore. The last six months had been a marathon of two-to-three-hour sleep nights, sustained only by mental supplements. Even as a Class 3 gene warrior, his body was pushed to its limit. But now wasn't the time to rest too much; the Federation's latest technological advances had set a fire in him.
When he awoke two days later, he donned his combat suit, slid his terminal on his arm, and sent a message to Han Peipei, heading to the cafeteria for a meal.
Along the way, he greeted starship engineers who had worked alongside him, occasionally stopping for a quick chat. These engineers were invaluable talents under his command, and he had high hopes for each of them.
Federation Year 7497, March 9
Feng Mo returned to the Hurricane System aboard the Orca with the Hurricane by his side. Upon disembarking, he and Han Peipei took an interstellar vehicle directly to the base tower.
There, Ai Er was organizing the treasures collected from the white hole in the storage room. Feng Mo entered the chamber, located thirty-three floors below the main base, where all valuables were stored.
This vast, ten-thousand-square-meter vault currently held only a few treasures, but Feng Mo had vowed to fill it someday. He believed that day wasn't far off.
Seeing Feng Mo, Ai Er promptly reported, "Duke, this white hole eruption yielded substantial gains. Just the dark matter and dark energy crystals alone are enough to construct five T5 starships. All other valuable items from the eruption are here."
Feng Mo's gaze fell upon a row of shelves, which held two lead-lined boxes and a massive crystal container with a small worm, about ten centimeters long, lying inside.
"Duke, this time we found eight interstellar seeds: one T5, two T4s, one T3, and four T2s. Unfortunately, we discovered that the T2, T3, and one of the T4 seeds were completely drained of energy."
She gestured toward the tiny worm in the crystal container. "The culprit is this little creature. From your previous notes, it's a juvenile interstellar worm. When we discovered it, it was chomping on the last T4 seed—there's a small bite mark on it."
"This little guy has quite the appetite, but it couldn't chew through the special crystal made by the Crystalline Clan."
Feng Mo had heard of this crystal before—a compressed and filtered material with a unique scent, akin to kopi luwak coffee. Rather than being upset, Feng Mo felt a surge of excitement. This creature had devoured one of his interstellar seeds last time, and now it had devoured six more. It was time for some serious training.
Moreover, the T5 control chips had just been produced, thoroughly tested, and ready for use. However, because the production process was complex and required rare materials, they couldn't be mass-produced.
This first batch had only ten chips, which Feng Mo had secured, ensuring the secrecy of their creation before returning to the Hurricane System.
This juvenile interstellar worm was the perfect candidate to test the T5 control chip's efficacy. According to the design specs, it could enslave any creature up to T5. If the enslaved creature evolved to T6, however, the chip would automatically self-destruct, destroying the host's brain.
Feng Mo agreed with this safeguard. If something couldn't be controlled, it should prepare for the ultimate consequence.
