Stars Dancing [Dreams-To-Lovers Romance]

43: Trillions

I can't leave her begging

Pleading

Panting for me

She needs me to fuck her

I can't

This need

This hunger inside me

It will destroy

It's all consuming

It's terror

It's a raging animal wanting to be unchained

I can't

I can't let this out. Not with her. Not this way. Not ever.

What do I do?

Ryst looked small and frail, standing on my doorstep at 11:00 PM. She had her arms wrapped around her middle, rocking. I opened the door wide and motioned her in. Her lips pinched together like she was trying to hold something in. She paced around my main room then finally started talking.

"He's so sad, Peydran. So sad, and I can't do anything," she said, anguished. "I can feel it. He's so sad, and I don't know what to do. It's so awful to be helpless, and I can't find him. I don't know what to do."

I sat down on my sofa and waived her over. She sat on my right side, buried her face in my shoulder, and held onto my arm for dear life. I let her cry. I didn't need to say anything. Should I? Should I tell her what I was working on? Trying permutations of "Melthena;" terms of endearment throughout the Known Cosmos that start with "M," or something that phonetically sounded like it?

There had been quads of them. I'd slowly gotten it down to 437 trillion. Turned out there actually were spheres in the 9 Galaxies that had no dark brown men ages 18-25, but too many had ginkgo and maple trees and climate with autumn. No, 437 trillion was still too many. I had to narrow and narrow until it could actually be something.

If she could get more, more words, more data, anything. . . No, I'd let her cry tonight.

I knew what she was doing. She was holding onto my right arm so I wouldn't have to touch her with the augment. She didn't want to make me uncomfortable. But I had a reason. I had two reasons. So I braced myself, and slowly, gently, I raised my left arm and touched the augment to her hair. I lightly held the back of her head and let her cry.

When she was quiet and sniffing, I handed her a tissue with the augment. Then I turned on Chaludra, and we just watched a cartoon.

She didn't even notice how I turned it on. She didn't see me do it without my hands.

I'd tell her at a happier time.
