Chapter 116: Faster!
Rugard noticed some commotion behind them only to turn and see the Escort group slowly approaching them from behind. " Did they encounter some monsters behind. They're all Lvl 3 adventurers, what could've possibly caused them to move this quickly."
" Whatever it is, it's irrelevant. Just act natural. If they've really encountered something back there then there's no reason to worry."
" What if they suddenly have bad intentions?"
" We'll kill them." Su Ping said plainly.
Rugard smirked at his reply. " Now that's something the both of us can agree on."
The escort group soon pulled up beside them. The old captain suddenly spotted someone waving at him. But he ignored Rugard, instead urging his men to move quickly.
" Looks like there in more of a rush than I thought." Rugard coughed when the dust from their trail assaulted his nostrils.
" What do you suggest we do now." Rugard turned towards Su Ping.
" Pick up the pace."
" Alright." Rugard didn't say anything else but used the reigns to get the horses to increase their pace. The undead followed suit, the caravan increased it's pace even more.
The old captain was in the midst of relaxing, since they had passed the caravan, he hoped the young miss wouldn't kick up a fuss again but.
His relief was short lived when he heard the sounds of turning wheels and galloping feet approaching quickly.
" Captain, should we pick up the pace." One of the captains subordinates rode up to him and asked.
" Tsk, yes, tell the others to move quickly." The captains expression dampened at the sight of the approaching caravan.
They lost the caravan again after increasing their pace even more. The old man stared behind and smiled a little when he didn't see the caravan. They rode on ahead in silence, fortunately, they didn't encounter any monster's.
" Captain..." The old mans ear's twitched when he suddenly heard the sound of turning wheels and galloping feet approaching again.
" Move quicker!" The captain ordered, the adventurers all glanced at one another, looking rather reluctant.
They were already making much noise by moving this fast, if they moved even quicker, wouldn't they be intentionally drawing the monsters towards them.
" What are you all hesitating for. I said move quicker." The old man scolded his party member's. The adventurers gave in after realizing that there leader was truly serious.
The adventurer acting as the coachman, whipped the horses reigns, with a startled cry, they speed up even faster. The adventurer's stuck close to the carriage while ridding on horse back.
" Good, now let's see those 2 catch up to us now." The captain was finally happy. Now they were moving so fast that everything around them was nothing but a blur.
But the captains expression changed significantly when he spotted the caravan in the distance. Moreover, the speed of the moving caravan seemed faster than theirs because they were rapidly closing the distance.
" Daddy, this is fun."
" We're moving so fast." Mel and Sal stared outside of the speeding cart, their child like eyes filled with excitement.
Su Ping turned towards the cart behind him when he heard their voices but his heart soon calmed down when he saw Melinda holding the children tightly in her embrace.
Su Ping didn't know why the escort group seemed to be in such a hurry all of a sudden. Since they were all Lvl 3's he felt that whatever it was that could've made them flee mustn't be normal. Rather than taking the risk and put Melinda and the kids in danger, he would rather join them and run.
" Captain there moving to fast!"
" Forget about them, non of you are allowed to slack behind. No matter what, we can't let them overtake us!"
" But captain we might attract monsters at this rate, can't we just slow down a little." One of the worried adventurers suddenly said.
" Do you have cotton in your ears, I said we won't allow them overtake us! To think that a common caravan dares to out show us and you're all acting complacent, Where's your dignity." The members of the escort group were at a loss, when did they ever act complacent. Nevertheless, non of them voiced their opinions. Their captain was already agitated as is, they would rather not push him farther.
Like that, the two groups continued to speed forward, Su Pings caravan tried to keep up with the escort group while the old man was adamant on not letting them overtake them.
Out of everyone, two people were the most confused about what was happening. One was Melinda who didn't understand why her husband was in such a hurry all of a sudden while the other was Esmeralda. She had told them to pick up the pace but with how worn out the road was, the carriage would encounter bumps on occasion that would disrupt her peace.
" What's gotten into those men. Don't they know they're supposed to be careful while I'm in here." Esmeralda's eyes twitched from the constant shaking on occasion.
She continued to experience more and more turbulence and just when it seemed liked she'd reached her limits, the carriage suddenly began slowing down, soon coming to a stop.
" Why are they stopping now?" Esmeralda made her way to the window and took a peak. She was surprised to see that it was now night out, moreover, the insistent sounds of panting horses filled her ears.
She saw the adventurers sitting around a make shift camp fire, one of them stood watch, while the other attended to the horses.
" These idiots actually rode at full speed throughout the day." She thought, clearly amazed yet she suddenly became irritated the next moment.
" These bastards actually lied to me..., we've been moving so fast all day and still didn't encounter any monster's." Esmeralda felt the urge to beat every last one of them beyond recognition, to th
ink they actually deceived her just so they could take it easy, she thought to herself.
