SSS Rank Chef: Rising In The World Of Magic

Chapter 24: The Midnight Assault

After two more hours, Lukas was finally happy to see the guests leave. He looked down at his empty bowl and then at the large container that still had a lot of dumplings in it. With a yawn, he left it to the servant to move but then, he saw all the chefs filling up small rectangular containers with food.

'Looks like we can take some back home.' he thought and just as he did so, he saw the butler walking towards him. In his hands, were two large containers.

"Chef Lukas, the baron is extremely pleased with today's event. Here's some food for you to take home." he said as he handed over the boxes to Lukas who nodded and headed back home.

He opened the door and was surprised to see an oil lamp lit up on the dining table while Nina sat on one of the chairs. The first thing Lukas did, was glance at the kitchen. He saw no pots on the stove.

With a frown, he looked at his sister, "Did you not eat anything after I left?"

She shook his head as her eyes locked onto the boxed in Lukas' hands. With a sigh, he locked the door behind him and placed the boxes on the table.

"This food was made by well known chefs who are way more experienced than me." he said as he gave her one and opened his own to see variety of foods. The first one he noticed, was stir fried noodles.

Nina looked at him as she opened her box, "I'm more experienced than you too."

Lukas chuckled as she wasn't wrong. Before his transmigration, she was the one who cooked for the two of them.

"Right, but why didn't such an experienced cook not make herself any food?" he asked and immediately noticed her cheeks going red.

"I… I was waiting." she stammered before she confidently said, "Goddess of Life's bible states that a family must always eat together."

'I thought you couldn't read.' he thought as he shrugged, "You don't have to wait for me. I'll probably be coming home late in the future and I don't want to see you skipping meals."

The two of them talked as they ate and only by the end, did he realise that Nina was more talkative than usual. While he had questions, he didn't bother asking as he headed for his bed.

'I still have to wake up early tomorrow… there are no holidays for a businessman.' he thought as he closed his eyes and quickly drifted off to sleep.

That night, a man wearing a tight windbreaker stood outside the door to Lukas' home. He took out a thin tool that looked like a sword but had a 90 degree bend at the tip. Along with that, was a similar swordlike tool but this was bent at the middle.

He pushed both of them into the lock's hole and moved them around. A few seconds later, the lock opened with a slight click and the man slowly opened the door and walked in. For a few minutes, he stood in place as he got used to the darkness inside.

As he waited, he could heard the breathing of two people nearby and once his eyes got used to the darkness, he slowly walked towards the sounds of breathing.

The bedroom's door was opened and inside, he saw a young man with a cleanly shaven beard and a young girl who was sleeping with no decorum. Under the moonlight that illuminated the room through the window, he could make out their facial features.

'They look similar… did this guy marry his own sister?' he made an assumption as he looked at Lukas' cleanly shaven face, 'Anyways, my job isn't to judge. I'll injure his wife and leave like master told me to.'

With silent steps, he walked closer to Nina and raised his arm up before bringing it down with immense speed. In just a moment, the room filled with peaceful sounds of soft breathing was pierced by a high pitched scream.

Nina instinctively kicked at the person that had appeared in her vision before she could even register the static like feeling in her nose and upper lip. The infiltrator crashed onto the wall opposite to the bed, almost incapacitated as the heel of Nina's foot hit him right in the solar plexus.

"Damn you!" he tried to yell but as he was unable to breathe or use his diaphragm at the moment, his voice was barely audible. It didn't take him long to recover as he stood back up with his hand still pressing against his solar plexus while he tried to leave.

He barely took a step forward when he felt his ribs crack. Lukas had crashed onto him like a raging bull, pushing him against the wall with all his might.

"Bitch!" the man roared in rage as he slammed his elbow on Lukas' back and then used his fist as a hammer to smack him right behind his head when he was down on the floor.

Lukas felt his like his brain had just hit the walls of his skull as he felt his nose crack. Yet, he raised his head immediately to see the legs of the infiltrator move towards the living room so he immediately extended his arm forward and grabbed him by the ankle.

Nina put her hand to her face and watched her brother tackle the man, only to get smacked onto the floor in mere seconds. With tears in the corner of her eyes, she got off her bed and jumped towards the man who was trying to leave the bedroom.

She pulled her tightly balled fist backwards and sent it flying towards the guy who had smacked her face. The pain was barely felt as she fell to the floor along with the infiltrator. All she could remember was that her fist had connected to his jaw and right after that, she heard the sound of his head smacking against the wall.

Lukas got back to his feel and pounced on the guy, siting on his belly as he rained punched on his face without any thought.

Only after a few seconds of not seeing any reaction from the man, did he finally stop. Panting heavily, he looked at his bloodied fist and then at his sister.
