Chapter 96: Even An Ordinary Guard Is This tough?
A young amiable-looking man stood at the extreme end of the lined troops.
Unlike the others, his uniform — though still police wear — wasn't as heavily geared.
On his chest, a captain's badge sat glinting under the brilliance of the sunlight.
"Oh my, guests?" He questioned as he walked toward Lux and the others.
The Lords frowned, feeling uneasy — this time not from the pressure of the tactical weapons in abundance around them.
Instead, it was from the fact that they couldn't inspect the details of anyone around them.
Lux's brows furrowed.
"Not right… the only two ways to block inspection are either vastly superior levels or blocking items…"
He mused silently. It definitely couldn't be the former — it surely had to be the latter.
"Then where would they get so many of such items?"
He glanced at the amiable young captain now before them, wearing a smile…
A chill ran down Lux's spine as he stared at that smile. Something surely wasn't right here.
Though agitated, he calmed himself. He couldn't just outright barge in with hostility in full display — he had to get a read of his opponent first.
And also, he still had to wait for backup…
So he feigned a smile.
"Sorry for trespassing. I know it's wrong, but you see, we couldn't help ourselves. A famous mysterious territory like this, which had been sealed for years, suddenly turned out to be opened… We really couldn't help but come take a look. Would it be okay for us to meet with your Lord?"
The young captain before them shook his head.
"Actually, not right away. But you can meet with the other higher personnel… Well, depending on what you're here for, I can refer you to the right person."
Lux remained silent, exchanging glances with his comrades.
"Is your Lord refusing to meet others out of disregard for us, or is there something else…" Lux questioned, his smile vanishing as his commanding aura undulated in the atmosphere, making it stifling.
Surprisingly, the young man remained unaffected, his smile widening as he replied:
"My Lord has a lot of things to sort out, and he wouldn't be free to meet with everyone who comes to his gate."
Silence reigned for a short moment, as even Lux was stunned with disbelief.
By his left side, the Amazon Lord Lana frowned heavily, her grip around her great war hammer tightening as currents of her power seeped into the atmosphere.
"Do you think we are just anyone?" She asked. Though her voice sounded delicate, it was chilling.
The young captain answered:
"If you weren't important enough, I wouldn't be here, would I?"
Steam slowly rose from Lana's figure as the temperature of the atmosphere gradually heightened. She was about to make a move, but was stopped in her tracks as Lux raised his arm, signaling her to hold.
Staring straight into the captain's eyes, Lux finally spoke:
"Fine. We are here to conquer your lands…"
The atmosphere suddenly turned tense, as mass clicks of weapons could be heard — all officers lined by the sides clacking their guns and taking aim.
Lux's eyes glowed golden, his hair billowing in the wind.
Naturally, he had planned to take things more slowly previously, but the complete disregard of these guys ticked him off.
The captain chuckled, as though the stifling pressure seeping from all three Lords amounted to nothing.
"Good. You should have just said that from the start… So what, how are we going about this? I cut off the head? Or do we start from the tail?" As the captain voiced these last words, his eyes gazed at the distant cavalry sitting just outside the borders.
Lux's expression turned ugly. To think the day would come where a mere subordinate spoke of handling him — the mighty mad conqueror Lux Volgard!
"Do you understand what you're saying?" Larry had to ask. He couldn't wrap his head around where this guy got his confidence from.
Except ignorance, that is…
"Sigh… I, Captain Lionel Jones, in charge of the territory offense, am pretty sure I know what your intentions entail… You are the one who should reconsider your motives before it's too late." Lionel spoke, his silver eyes glowing with an amusing sheen.
"I've had enough of this, Lux!" Lana heaved furiously, unable to restrain her anger any longer.
Her hammer wielded with a scarily effortless grace, she swung it — the hammer lighting up with a golden cadence.
Unfortunately, it never met true to its mark.
Bang!
A furious clap of explosion was all that was heard as her figure flew uncontrollably backward.
She skidded across the soil, leaving a shallow trench in her wake. By the time momentum finally died and she struggled to her feet, a clean puncture in her armor could be seen, pumping with blood.
She glanced at the injury, her heart shuddering with terror.
"What was that just now?!"
"Tsk! Why did you go and fire! These guys are mine to handle. Mine!" Lionel berated an officer with a smoking gun in his grasp.
"Yes, Captain!" The officer saluted, as they all stamped the ends of their guns back down.
Lux felt dread… now gazing at all the guns in a new light of terror.
What the hell? A single guard blasted Lana away with a single shot? Lana was a Lord!
A freaking Level 71 Lord!
Her highest stats were in the 600s, and the lowest were in the 500s.
Mind you, her highest stat was the mutated stat Invincibility — the highest form of defense they could be.
Plus her Epic armor. Normally, it was safe to say Lana was an impenetrable wall of danger.
But… just like that, she was injured. Though not heavily, still — if these guys decided to empty rounds on her frame… would she even have a corpse left?
"So what are we doing, guys? I gave you an option to pick… Oh, and before we begin, I will be needing coordinates to your territories."
Lionel spoke, a devious smile tugging his lips.
He was one of the new captains of the Cosmic Policemen. Over the past two months, they had been put under grueling training and dungeon raids…
And today, he could finally let out some steam.
Lux stared at the captain solemnly, unable to gaze at him as an ordinary subordinate. He could be one of those Hunters with a first-class Order.
Things weren't going to be as easy as he thought…
