Chapter 95: Allies?
A luxurious chariot drawn by six ground dragons moved at massive speed.
Behind, an entire fleet of soldiers on different mystical mounts trailed quickly.
They plowed across the land, moving with strategic purpose and destination.
Very soon, they rushed into dense foliage — a familiar forest that stood at the outskirts of Roy's territory.
"Huh? Holy shit! Wait… isn't that madman Lux's Immortal Cavalry?" A figure slowly making his way through the borders of Roy's territory spoke, stunned, as he pointed toward a certain direction.
Everyone, on hearing this, turned toward the direction pointed.
Their expressions warped, turning ugly.
Someone among them muttered:
"I thought we were crazy for trespassing into someone's territory in an attempt to intimidate them… but to think this guy is even crazier — he brought a whole cavalry! A true madman indeed!"
Someone heading the group of Lords nodded, brows furrowed, and spoke:
"It seems we will have to change plans. In this event, we will be spectators… We can't risk antagonizing Lux. I have a feeling we might witness Lux adding another territory to the bag today."
Everyone nodded solemnly. They understood the might of this man, and they were well aware he was uncontested.
True, they had witnessed the battle that took place in this very territory two months ago… but that was two months ago.
Things change with time, and the fact that this territory remained under lockdown for the past two months didn't help either.
You see, Arcana was a mystical ether plane. Within it were hundreds of wonderlands holding vast fortunes and resources, as well as unfathomable dangers.
So to be blunt, these guys — though frightening two months ago — as of right now stood no chance.
The group of Lords shook their heads in pity.
On reaching the borders of the territory, the chariot halted, as did the trailing cavalry.
Lux made his way out of the chariot, plated in his lustrous gold armor, his prestigious sword strapped to his side.
His regal figure truly embodied the concept of his name — Luxury.
Behind him, two figures also followed, stepping out of the chariot — a man and a lady.
Both were dressed in battle gear. The man's slim physique was fitted in light armor; strapped to his back were both a bow and a quiver filled with eye-prickling sharp arrows.
Beside him was a bulky, masculine-looking lady, with biceps as big as thighs and a chest compact and filled with muscle. She was the definition of an Amazon.
She wore a bronze chain armor skirt and a bronze breastplate, mystical arm guards and boots. Resting comfortably on her shoulder was a hammer twice the size of a man.
"Look at this. Last time I was here, these plains were nothing but a bottomless abyss of nothing." Lux gestured at Roy's territory, looking melancholic.
Compared to before, now the land had been fully recovered. Fertile grass sprouted, dew drops glistening under radiant sunlight.
"Indeed, a territory very much worthy of me being its Lord." Lux proclaimed with a proud smirk.
From the side, Lana pointed at something in the distance, her face filled with shock.
"Shit… are my eyes deceiving me, or are those guys dressed as SWAT agents guarding a dungeon gate?!"
Lux looked — and indeed, it was as said. A couple of soldiers geared in heavy tactical gear stood guard outside a swirling mist of blue.
His other companion, Larry, also voiced:
"And I don't think it's just one…"
Yes, indeed — several swirling mists of various hues could be seen, guarded by soldiers. Probably about eight!
Lux's eyes twitched. These guys had at least eight dungeons in their territory!
And not just any dungeon — the portal type. This was the one famed for having an infinite supply of monsters, unlike the physical ones which could be cleared once.
What did that mean? It meant these guys had an endless supply of resources.
"How could this be? I've never seen such a thing before… and we are supposed to be newcomers." Lana complained, visibly displeased.
Lux remained silent, turning his gaze to the distant dome-like structure, his heart racing.
This conquest… could it be that it wouldn't go as planned?
He shook his head quickly at the thought, a self-mocking smile on his face.
"Seriously, what am I worried for? I have cleared eight capable early-comer Lords in their territories at that… This shouldn't be any different."
He quickly started giving orders.
"Only us three will venture into the territory… The rest of you wait for the discussed signal."
Just as he and the other two were about to head in…
A wave of wind rushed into the atmosphere as a familiar green draconic mount swooped down.
On the back of the glorious beast were nine individuals — well-known Lords, to be exact. At the forefront of the crew was a familiar figure: The Merchant Empress.
"Oh my, what do we have here." Vera's voice rang out, her lips betraying a smile that was not a smile, her cold gaze trained on the trio of Lords.
Lux frowned.
"I don't care what you bunch came here for, but I suggest you all leave… Or else you might get yourselves involved in something greater than you can imagine."
Vera's smile turned taunting.
"Ah really? I'm confused. You guys are the ones trespassing, and I'm to be worried?" She shook her head with a hearty laugh as the dragon took back into the skies, heading toward the Aegis.
"Lux, something isn't right… The last time we were here, those guys — though fewer — appeared. And today it is the same. I believe they might be allies." Larry deduced, staring at the now distant silhouettes of the nine Lords worriedly.
Lux nodded.
"You're right. It really isn't that simple… Good thing I notified the others to make their way here. If it comes down to it, they should know they aren't the only allied Lords around!"
And with that, the three crossed the borders, heading toward the Aegis.
As high-leveled individuals, their movement speed was actually quite quick. Within minutes, they were already approaching the Aegis.
"It seems they were already expecting us…" Larry said as he gazed at the armed troops of officers lining the way to the gates.
Seeing the hunters holding heavy assault rifles, and sensing the subtle buzzing of mounted turrets and laser systems taking aim…
The three couldn't help but feel a bit nervous. They were humans of the modern day, after all — the inbuilt fear of tactical weapons ran deep.
Even knowing they had superhuman capabilities couldn't dampen this feeling.
"Oh, another batch of guests!" A voice rang out.
